Sunday News Roundup: Portland Riots Get Worse and Fauci Reveals the Truth About a Vaccine

Those loud noises you hear are the sounds of climate alarmist heads exploding. – In his statement rolling out his executive orders on Saturday, President Donald Trump (I till never tire of typing those three glorious words) had the following to say about the “Green New Deal” and its juvenile sponsor, AOC:

“They want to raise everybody’s taxes, everybody, and they want to do the Green New Deal, which will decimate our country and decimate,” Trump said during a press conference at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey on Saturday.

“It’s ridiculous, it’s childish. I actually say the Green New Deal is childish. It’s for children, it’s not for adults,” he said, without referring by name to the policy’s key architect, New York Democrat Ocasio-Cortez.

[End]

Fact Check: He’s right.

The “Green New Deal” is in fact a childish and un-serious document, a series of socialist/communist policy proposals from a segment of our society that lives in a fanstasy world and wants to force the rest of us to either live there with them, or – preferably to them – die. Make no mistake about it, these people hate you and would much rather you were dead.

Thanks to President Trump for reminding everyone of that reality.

Speaking of reminders… – here is what societal menace Anthony Fauci had to say about the stupidity of wearing masks back in March:

“Right now, people should not be wearing m…there’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better, and it might even block a droplet. But it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And often, there are unintended consequences: People keep fiddling with the mask, and they keep touching their face.”

By the way, that advice given back in March was completely consistent with the little menace’s position on mask-wearing that he has held for many years. Yet, today, he has suddenly morphed into not only advocating the wearing of masks, but also the wearing of goggles to protect the eyes.

Ask yourself this: What changed? The science didn’t change. The data didn’t change. Just the politics and the priorities of his masters in the Democrat Party. That’s all that changed.

The man is a menace to our entire society.

Oh, hey, speaking of the little menace to society… – After spending the past four months breathlessly touting a miracle vaccine as the only answer to COVID-19, Fauci started walking back the hype:

Oh. You don’t saaaayyyyyy…

From a piece at The Hill:

White House coronavirus advisor Anthony Fauci said public health measures will likely still be needed to keep the coronavirus pandemic under control even with the development of a vaccine as it could end up being effective just half of the time.

“We don’t know yet what the efficacy might be. We don’t know if it will be 50 percent or 60 percent. I’d like it to be 75 percent or more,” Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), said Friday during a webinar hosted by Brown University, according to CNBC.

“But the chances of it being 98 percent effective are not great, which means you must never abandon the public health approach,” he said.

[End]

Ok, so, what he is telling you here is exactly what I’ve been telling you since March: That a COVID-19 vaccine will be just like the annual flu vaccine, i.e., not a “vaccine” at all, but a treatment that is only going to be marginally effective.

Fauci’s final sentence there is very telling, and something he never focuses on because it won’t make him and Bill Gates any money: What we really should be doing as a nation is moving on with our lives and focusing on protecting the most vulnerable among us – the elderly and people with underlying conditions – and developing effective treatments for this virus that save lives of those who catch it.

You know, like Hydroxychloroquine, which Fauci also refuses to endorse since it won’t make him and Bill Gates any money, either.

This man is a menace. Period.

Meanwhile, in Portland… – The riots continued to escalate again last night, their 77th consecutive night without relief. As usual, we only know this through the efforts of real journalist Any Ngo, who risks his well-being every day to report the truth.

The Antifa/BLM threats to residents continue to escalate:

Oh, hey, guess what? The police declared a riot. Again.

Lots of arrests being made. But of course, the local Soros-funded DA just lets them right back out onto the streets:

At this point, it is once again obvious that communist Democrat Governor Kate Brown and communist Mayor Ted Wheeler have no intention of allowing their state and local police to protect the population and shut these rioters down.

These people will not stop until they are stopped. It’s not complicated.

That is all.

Dorian Shoves the Amazon Fires off the Climate Alarmist Radar

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

The only positive thing about Hurricane Dorian is that it gives the Climate alarmists something to virtue-signal about other than the Amazon rain forest fires. – Hey, at least Hurricane Dorian is the real deal, although it is certainly not, as some alarmists claimed on Sunday, the most powerful hurricane in modern times. That title still rests with Hurricane Camille, which packed 210 mph sustained winds when it devastated Mississippi, Alabama and much of the Gulf Coast way back in 1969.

Still, Dorian’s a big deal, one that is pounding the Bahamas as I write this, and no one in its path should take it lightly. It’s a real danger to human lives.

Then there are the fires in the Amazon rain forest, which have over the last 30 days been the subject of a major, focused campaign in the media to stoke climate alarm. Unlike Dorian, this is not a real thing, at least in the way the media and our celebrity virtue-signalers have portrayed it. The media has, of course, focused its efforts on trying to blame the entire problem on the government of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro who, like President Donald Trump, is a populist. What a surprise, right?

Yes, the number of fires in the Amazon are up in 2019 as compared to 2018. Yes, they are slightly above the 10-year average. But, as you can see in the chart below, they are way down from most years during the first decade of the 21st century, a time during which Brazil had a socialist government, a time during which no one in the Climate alarmist community or our fake news media attempted to blame Amazon fires on the Brazilian government. Funny how that works.

No photo description available.

As is always the case with climate alarmist campaigns designed to frighten the public, the images used in the campaign’s messaging are as fake as many of the messages. When French President Emanuel Macron issued a tweet falsely claiming, “The Amazon rain forest — the lungs which produce 20% of our planet’s oxygen — is on fire,” the photo he used to accompany the false message was of a fire that occurred during the 1990s.

That 20% claim was echoed throughout the climate alarmist virtue-signaling community, with Usual Suspects like Leonardo DiCaprio, soccer star Christian Renaldo and many others cutting-and-pasting it. The New York Times and Washington Post and CNN, MSNBC and all the other major U.S. fake news outlets also repeated the false claim. CNN was of course the worst of all, at one point running a banner with the false claim, “Fires Burning at Record Rate in Amazon Forest.” In another segment, the fake news network’s “climate reporter” hysterically claimed without evidence that, “The current fires are without precedent in the past 20,000 years.”

As reported by Michael Shellenberger in Forbes, that 20% claim is utter nonsense. Shellenberger quotes one of the leading experts on the Amazon rain forest, Dan Nepstad, as saying, “It’s bullshit. There’s no science behind that. The Amazon produces a lot of oxygen but it uses the same amount of oxygen through respiration so it’s a wash.”

But aren’t the Amazon fires still a problem? Sure they are. As Neptstad notes in a more detailed interview with Shellenberger at Environmental Progress, in some years they can produce as much as 3-4% of global carbon emissions. Nepstad also notes that almost all of the Amazon fires are started by humans engaged in deforestation efforts, so it is a problem that can be addressed through proper economic incentives.

But that will never happen so long as we continue to live in this Climate Change fantasy world in which the religious dogma of the left literally prevents any accurate, truthful acknowledgement of real causes. Even worse, the dogma demands that any and all “solutions” must be socialist in nature because the religion of Climate Change is not driven by “climate” at all, but by politics.

Matt Ridley, writing in the UK Spectator, summed it up thusly:

“The temptation to moralise on social media is so strong among footballers, actors and politicians alike that it is actually doing harm. Get the economic incentives right and the world will save its forests. Preach and preen and prevaricate, and you’ll probably end up inadvertently depriving more toucans and tapirs of their rainforest habitat.”

Well, yeah, but so what? It’s the virtue signal that matters.

That is all.
