The Coronavirus Press Conference Gives Us The Trump We Need To See More Of

Today’s Campaign Update (Because the Campaign Never Ends)

This was President Donald Trump at his best: Fully in command of the room and the facts, speaking in measured tones, obviously in charge of the situation. Other than some formal international ceremonies, it was with out doubt the most “presidential” event of his entire time in office.

He took every question from the enemies of the people assembled in the White House briefing room and provided measured and reasonable answers, even to those that were unreasonable or even idiotic, as several were. I mean, after all, he did call on April Ryan and that circus clown who writes for Playboy.

Even the jabs he took at Nancy Pelosi were measured in tone: He didn’t call her “Crazy Nancy” or question her sobriety – even though either or both would have been perfectly valid. Instead, he called her “incompetent,” which she clearly is, and truthfully stated that the depraved Speaker is working to politicize the Coronavirus situation.

The same was true of his reference to Chuck Schumer, who has behaved in an even more depraved fashion than Pelosi: The President engaged in no name-calling, no references to “Crying Chuck” or anything similar; just a truthful statement of regret about the Minority Leader’s efforts to endanger the American public for purely partisan reasons.

It was a brilliant press conference, one that had me wishing he would do more of these and fewer of the noisy press availabilities next to the whining rotors as he’s about to board Marine One. I fully get why he likes that model: It denies the preening peacocks in the corrupt press corps their cherished TV face time. In those events, the camera is always on Trump, never on the nitwits screaming their moronic questions.

The President is of course right to treat the media with scorn – it is what they have all richly earned in their demented behavior towards him and his administration. He was absolutely right to end the daily press briefings, given the abusive behavior by the reporters towards his own staff. He

Mr. Trump was also right to take the responsibility of dealing with the media on his own shoulders: This administration revolves around him and his thought processes, and he obviously wasn’t always able to communicate those thoughts to those speaking on his behalf. So he cut out the middle-man, and now typically does more than one press availability each day.

But part of the problem with those loud events next to Marine One is that the President always finds himself shouting. This creates a problem where tone is concerned. As he left the briefing yesterday, one reporter shouted that he should do more events in the briefing room. That caught the President’s attention, and he promised that he would do so.

That would probably be a good idea, because the President is powerful in that setting. Don’t abandon the helicopter setting altogether, but provide more of a mix of venues.

In this re-election season, it might be wise for the President and his team to give a nod to one of the main reasons why he has lost so many suburban housewives: It’s mainly due to his behavior and his tone, not necessarily his substance. Young mothers and grandmothers don’t want young children to be exposed to a President who always seems to be shouting, whether at the press corps at a loud and windy event, or in his postings on Twitter, where he also often seems to be figuratively shouting.

Those who contend that Trump should stop tweeting entirely miss the entire point here: It’s not the fact that he uses social media, but the manner in which he uses it that turns off many people who might otherwise be supporters. A significant percentage of these suburban women who have been trending Democrat over the past four years actually agree with most of the Trump agenda, but can’t stand the manner in which he communicates it much of the time. Appealing to this constituency and gaining more of their votes this year could well determine which party controls the House of Representatives after this year.

Communication matters. No one understands this better than Donald Trump.

The President has to stay active on Twitter because it provides him his only platform on which to communicate to the public without interference from the enemies of the people. Most of these women no doubt recognize that reality, and also most likely wouldn’t deny him the right to respond in-kind to the abusive behavior towards him by depraved Democrats like Pelosi, Schumer and Schiff.

Where he turns so many people off is when he resorts to seemingly gratuitous name-calling, and when he goes after ordinary people, as he did recently with the jury foreman in the Roger Stone trial. Yes, that woman most definitely lied on her jury questionnaire, and Stone should receive a new trial with a new judge as a result. But Roger Stone has smart lawyers working for him and doesn’t need the President attacking both the jury foreman and the judge in order to make his case. It’s just a needless fight that Mr. Trump would have been better off not picking.

Bottom line, if the public saw the President Trump we witnessed in that Coronavirus briefing yesterday evening every day between now and November 3, he would win in an epic landslide for the ages. After the last three years of constant controversy and upheaval, the public is craving a return to some level of normalcy.

Knowing that Bernie Sanders won’t and can’t give them that, and that the Democrats and their corrupt media toadies will do everything in their power to keep the chaos coming, it would probably be wise for the President himself to give it to them in spades.

Lyin’ April Ryan Rebutted by…Jim Acosta???

Wait.  Somebody didn’t already know this? – The New York Post has a story this morning titled “Twitter is Run by Democrat Donors and Activists.”  Well, yes, yes it is.  So is Facebook.  And Youtube.  And every other social media platform you’re accessing today.

In all seriousness, the piece is by Paul Sperry, one of the handful of real working journalists still functioning in our national news media today, and anything by Sperry is well worth taking the time to read.  So go read it already.

April Ryan is a shameless liar, Part 6,578. – In her ongoing role as irrational propagandist for CNN, the execrable April Ryan told one of the fake news channel’s myriad fake hosts on Friday that, at the President’s rally earlier this week in Tampa, poor little Jimmy Acosta’s “life, in my opinion, was in jeopardy that night.”

Guess who vehemently disagrees with that assessment, and left evidence on his Twitter feed to prove it?  If you guessed Little Jimmy his own self, you a winner!

A very, very inconvenient truth for the Ethanol lobby. – It won’t receive any notice from the fake newsers at CNN and the major television network news operations, but the EPA issued a devastating and long-overdue report on the environmental impacts of corn- and soybean-based ethanol on Thursday.

Since the early years of this century the EPA has, through a raft of subsidies and mandates, required oil refiners to mix this stuff into the nation’s gasoline under the guise of improving air quality.  Previous reports by EPA have claimed that it has had some positive effects in reducing ozone.

But this new report – which the Obama Administration was supposed to have issued way back in 2014 but of course failed to do so – reverses that claim and finds a set of other negative environmental impacts from the blending of ethanol with our gasolines:

According to David DeGennaro with the National Wildlife Federation, the report documents millions of acres of wildlife habitat lost to ethanol crop production, increased nutrient pollution in waterways and air emissions and side effects worse than the gasoline the ethanol is replacing.

“In finding that the Renewable Fuel Standard is having negative consequences to a whole suite of environmental indicators,” DeGennaro said, “the report is a red flag warning us that we need to reconsider the mandate’s scope and its focus on first-generation fuels made from food crops.”

Of course, the problem with getting the ethanol out of our national system is that the subsidies and mandates have had the effect of making thousands of farmers dependent on the government dole and propped up an entire industry that in reality should not exist.  Add in the fact that pretty much the entire state of Iowa – whose caucuses are always the first real voting event in every presidential campaign – is heavily reliant on the corn-growing and corn ethanol industries, and you have a real political conundrum for both political parties.

This is reinforced by the fact that the program of subsidies and mandates is statutory in nature.  While EPA does have regulatory authority to tweak the levels of ethanol added to our auto fuels, getting rid of the noxious stuff entirely would require an act of congress, and we all know that isn’t going to happen.  Thus, in spite of this new report, we should not expect any action from the government to curtail the program.

From our ICYMI files… – Oh, hey, in case you missed it – since the fake news media outside of San Francisco is doing its dead level best to pretend the story doesn’t exist – the current ranking Democrat and former chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Dianne Feinstein, was revealed this week to have employed a Chinese spy as her driver.  Not for a day, a week, a month or a year, mind you, but for 20 DAMN YEARS.

Yes, friends, for two solid decades, this DEMOCRAT had a spy for China on her payroll, listening into the conversations and phone calls she made while he was driving her around our nation’s capital.  This CHINESE SPY was in fact Sen. Feinstein’s driver during 2010-12, when Feinstein was Chairman of Senate Intel.  During that three year period, the Chinese government was able to root out and execute the entire U.S. network of intelligence operatives working in its country.

Coincidence?  That’s what Feinstein wants us all to believe, and her pals in the fake news media are lined up right with her, because of course they are.

When Feinstein’s driver was found out in 2013, what happened?  Did the CIA do its job and spirit him off to Gitmo for interrogation and prosecution?  Was he shipped back to his home country?  Anything?  Buehler???

No.  None of that happened.  What happened was, James Comey’s FBI hushed it all up and swept it under the rug, and Feinstein fired the guy and hired a new driver.  Let’s all hope this new guy’s first name isn’t Vladimir.

Tired of all this #Winning yet? – Some great numbers for President Donald Trump (I still never tire of typing those three words) in the latest Rasmussen survey.  His public approval rating is back up to 50%, which is 5 points higher than Barack Hussein Obama’s rating was at this same point in his first term.

But wait, there’s more!  As if that weren’t #WINNING enough, the President’s approval rating among African American voters has now ticked up to a princely (for a Republican) 29%, almost double his 15% support among Black voters a year ago.  In the 2016 election, Candidate Trump received just 8% of the Black vote.

If that rising support level were to translate into the President receiving even 15% of the Black vote in his 2020 re-election bid, he would win 40 states and 370 electoral votes.

All this #WINNING truly never gets old, does it?

Your Fake News Media in Action! – Hey, look, the New York Times hired another racist for its editorial board.  The comely Mizzzz Sarah Jeong has a long history of posting the most heinous sort of anti-White racism on her Twitter feed, and the editors at the NYTimes think that’s just peachy keen.

After the story went viral on social media yesterday, the Times put out an unintentionally hilarious explanation in which it claims Mizzzz Sarah Jeong was put through a “rigorous vetting” process.  Mind you that these are the exact same people who rigorously vetted one Ali Watson, a reporter with a long history of selling sex in exchange for illegal leaks of classified information, and who still employ this same Ali Watson many weeks after her sex-for-leaks practices were publicly exposed.

So, just standard operating procedure at your New York Times, a fake newspaper that actually has no professional standards at all.  You couldn’t make this stuff up if you wanted to.

Why are we having these press briefings again? It’s an honest question. – As readers have all no doubt seen by now, Little Jimmy Acosta threw another of his periodic snit fits at the White House press briefing on Thursday.  You can watch the fun here if you haven’t already seen it.

After he got righteously smacked down by Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Acosta fled the room like any petulant 3 year-old child would do, and then rushed to brag about it on Twitter, as any 25 year-old Millennial child would do:

So, he’s a big, bad man who demanded a particular answer to his question from the “little woman” in his life, and when the “little woman” wouldn’t give him the answer he demanded, he stormed out of the room.  No idea if Acosta is married, but if he is I really feel sorry for that “little woman.”

Not even a week ago, the same Little Jimmy Acosta was bitching on his Twitter account that the White House had only held something like 6 formal press briefings in July.  So, Little Jimmy, having the mindset of the typical 3 year-old child, is angry when the briefings don’t occur, and he’s even more angry when they do occur and he can’t get the “little woman” to say what he wants her to say.

All of which brings me to this question, which I’ve raised many times before:  Why is the White House continuing this farce?  Why is it doing any press briefings at all?  Why is it still allowing these people – many of whom, like Acosta and the execrable April Ryan are clear enemies of the state – to roam around the White House grounds like a pack of rabid dogs every day?

Think about it:  What actual “news” did the public get out of Thursday’s briefing that it would not have gotten otherwise?  Can you think of a single thing?  I can’t.

There’s a reason for this:  The fake reporters in that room have no real interest in reporting real news.  The people in that room are only interested in getting their face on television, and in asking some gotcha question that might produce an answer that would give them a clickbait fake story.  So why continue to place Ms. Sanders in the position of having to face this pack of anti-Trump animals on a regular basis?

As I’ve pointed out in the past, the U.S. Republic somehow survived for two full centuries without this press briefing model.  The daily press briefings did not become a thing until the 1970s, yet somehow we had a far better-informed public then than we do today, after 40 years of the use of this mode of White House communication.

Every presidential administration has a duty to keep the public informed of what it is doing.  But no administration has any duty at all to cater to the whims of a bunch of preening, self-promoting jackasses who want to be free to wander around the halls of the White House doing what amounts to opposition research for the opposition political party.

Yesterday’s latest Acosta-led farce is just the latest in a very long line of demonstrations that this mode of communicating is outdated and should be ended.  In the 21st century, there are myriad other ways for the White House to keep the press and the public informed of the actions it is taking on behalf of the American people.  A great example is the President’s own Twitter account, which he uses each and every day for that exact purpose.

Donald Trump is an unconventional President in almost every way.  So why is he still insisting on using this tired old non-functioning model of communication with the press?

Time to stop the madness, Mr. President.  Long past time, actually.  End these press briefings now, before one of these rabid dogs physically assaults your press secretary.

Kill the White House Press Briefings Now

Your fake news media in action! – The last couple of days have produced one of the fakest fake news stories in fake news media history, typified by this blaring headline in USA Today:  The Feds Lost – Yes, Lost – 1475 Migrant Children.

Of course, the first fake part of this story is the headline – these aren’t “migrant” children, they’re illegal immigrants who crossed our border in violation of our nation’s laws.  The story blames the problem entirely on the Trump Administration, yet these children are mostly unaccompanied minors allowed into this country by the outlaw Obama Administration beginning in 2015, under executive-ordered policies that were also in clear violation of U.S. immigration laws.

Once these unaccompanied minors entered the U.S. in violation of U.S. law, they were intentionally scattered all over the country by Obama’s evil minions at taxpayer expense, often flown first class to their destinations.  Once these illegal immigrants arrived at their destinations, they were registered with local officials of the Health and Human Services Administration, and then simply released into the general population.  Many were reunited with their illegal immigrant parents, some weren’t because – shockingly! – their illegal immigrant parents didn’t really want to be found by government authorities.

Is it really any surprise, then, that of the tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors allowed into this country under this illegal program, the government has lost track of 1,475 of them since 2015?  Wouldn’t this be completely expected, especially given the reality that a pretty good percentage of these parents are criminals who are going to do everything they can to hide from law enforcement?

This is a classic example of Josef Goebbels-style media propaganda, in which a statistic that is actually real is turned into a Big Lie that both ignores the cause and places the blame on some convenient boogeyman.  Goebbels would have blamed it all on the Jews;  our fake news media blames it all on Trump.

These people are disgraces to their dead profession.

Speaking of disgraces to the dead profession of journalism, CNN’s Little Jimmy Acosta, the dimmest bulb at the fakest news network in the history of mankind, was whining on his Twitter feed Friday evening:

So, he had to whine on his Twitter feed because he hasn’t been getting to get his whining done at the White House press briefings as often as he’d like recently.  Isn’t that terrible?  Don’t you feel awful for him?  No?  Yeah, me neither.

Look, I’m all for freedom of the press, but there is no reason why the White House – any White House – should ever hold a daily press briefing.  These briefings didn’t even begin until the 1970s – somehow, the Republic had managed to survive for almost two centuries without them.  The briefings became a daily thing for awhile during the Nixon Administration, in a failed effort to get Nixon’s message out through the news media of the time.  They were largely dropped in the Ford years but started on a daily basis again during the Carter presidency, and have continued with only sporadic interruptions since.

The briefings lost all meaning in 2009, when the fake news media decided to simply perform as pathetic lapdogs to their hero for 8 long years.  Obama could have ended them at any time he wanted to, and you’d have never heard a peep of protest from CNN.

In the Trump Administration, the briefings have devolved into nothing but forums for aspiring peacocks like Acosta to get his relished camera time and for belligerent dopes like April Ryan to throw out the most idiotic questions their tiny minds can come up with.  Trump’s two press spokesmen – Sean Spicer and Sarah Huckabee Sanders – are assaulted on a daily basis, cross-examined by hostile reporters who in fact consider them and the President they represent to be mortal enemies, and none of the Administration’s points of view are ever given fair treatment in any media reporting outside of Fox News or the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal.

Even worse, both Spicer and Sanders have been attacked in the most personal and ugliest ways in social media by the same fake reporters who spend most of their day inside the White House.  It’s to the point now where the relationship has become so hostile with some of the reporters – like Acosta and Ryan – that you really have to wonder how the Secret Service justifies continuing to allow them into the building.

I argued way back in January 2017 that the very best thing President Trump could do with these press briefings is to eliminate them because they serve no legitimate purpose anymore.  Every president has an obligation to keep the American people informed about the actions of their administrations, but no president has any obligation to allow a bunch of hostile enemies of their administration and personnel onto White House grounds on a daily basis.

There are any number of alternative means of getting information to the public that don’t involve placing Sarah Sanders and other White House personnel in harm’s way.  These include:

  • Social media;
  • Taking and answering legitimate questions in writing;
  • Daily press releases summarizing important events;
  • Regular recorded video or audio messages from the President and his senior people;
  • Frequent call-ins to televised news programs, even to CNN on occasion.

The President has obviously been advised by his communications team that continuing to work with the pathetic collection of banty roosters and cackling clowns that make up the White House press corps somehow makes the press coverage of his presidency more favorable.  I said last January that this is horrible advice, and nothing has changed since that time.  The only way this President’s message gets out to the people in any real way today is via his own Twitter account.

This is a very unconventional presidency and it requires the use of unconventional means of communications.  The daily press briefings are a relic from the past that represent a terrible model for today, and they need to be killed.

Here’s hoping that the fact that there have been only 10 in the last 32 days is the start of a trend.
