Trump Does the Right Thing on Border Securty – Will John Roberts do the Same?

See something, say something, do something. – President Donald Trump has seen a national emergency developing along our southern border for several years now, and he’s been saying that for a long time. On Thursday, left with no other choice by ineffective Republicans who have no spine and Democrats who refuse to negotiate, the President did exactly as he has been promising to do and declared the situation to be a national emergency.

Naturally, the fake news media/Democrat axis of disinformation portrayed the declaration as the end of American society as we know it, because of course they did. That’s what they do anytime this particular President exercises his obvious legal and constitutional authorities.

How obvious is said authority? Barack Hussein Obama – America’s Worst Mistake – declared no fewer than 13 national emergencies in his nine years in office, at least nine of which are still active. On October 24, 2009, he declared it a “national emergency” when 12 people died of the Swine Flu. I swear I don’t make this stuff up. Who could?

All of the Obama “national emergency” declarations that are still active have to do with seizing the personal assets of various minor international bad actors, people you’ve never heard of. Funny he couldn’t find it within himself to take similar actions against the Iranian Mullahs or the socialist thugs down in Venezuela, or against the radical Islamic terrorists who assaulted our embassy in Benghazi and murdered four U.S. diplomatic personnel.

How do any of Obama’s “emergencies” remotely compare to a situation in which our country is literally being invaded by thousands of mostly-military-age males across our border with Mexico each and every day? It is important to note that, when America’s Worst Mistake exercised his clear authorities to declare said “emergencies,” no one in our fake news media or in the Democrat Party uttered a peep of protest. Nor did a single Republican squish like Marco Rubio, who appears to be auditioning for John McCain’s old role as the Senator From The News Media on this issue.

Jonathan Turley, Constitutional Law Professor at George Washington University, told Fox News that the leftist interests who will inevitably challenge the President’s authority to declare this emergency will “fail spectacularly” in the courts on that question. He also thinks that the President has full authority under laws passed in 1977 to reallocate funds from other parts of the budget, and in 2005 to target them towards building the wall.  Why? Because congress gave presidents those powers – reaffirming his already-existing constitutional authority – to do those things, and has never acted to try to repeal them.

So what you’re seeing in the fake news media this morning is – you guessed it – more fake news!

Some things never change.

Having said all of that, there are at least seemingly legitimate political arguments to be made against President Trump’s actions. I don’t agree with them, but they are fair.

Many Republicans reeled in horror yesterday when San Fran Nan implied that a future Democrat President might use the same authority to seize guns. But this is an absurdity. There is no authority – statutory or constitutional – that would allow any president to effectively amend the Constitution or reverse decisions by the Supreme Court via an executive order. It’s typical Pelosi idiocy.

Late last week we saw Rubio and other GOP squishes fret about the potential that a future Democrat would declare “climate change” to be a national emergency and enact the lunatic “Green New Deal” via executive fiat. That’s a concern that’s at least understandable to some extent, especially were we to elect someone like Bernie Sanders or Fauxcahontas, neither of whom will ever become president.

But the declaration of a “national emergency” is not the same as a president appointing himself to be a de facto dictator. The actions he takes under a national emergency declaration still must be founded in a legal authority, either statutory or constitutional. Where the “Green New Deal” is concerned, there is no such legal authority that would allow a president to, for example, unilaterally triple the price of gasoline and your electricity and home heating bills in order to make you stop using fossil fuels, or force privately-owned companies to go bankrupt building thousands of miles of railroads to nowhere, which is exactly what that mindless plan contemplates.

Look, if that were going to happen, Barack Obama would have already tried it and failed. So quit worrying about it.

The real wild card in this is Chief Justice John Roberts. In recent months, Roberts has made several decisions in which he has sided with the leftist minority on the Court, indicating that he may be turning into another Anthony Kennedy, an unreliable jurist with no real principles.

At least one of the inevitable court challenges to President Trump’s declaration will ultimately come before the Supreme Court. That is when we will find out once and for all whether Justice Roberts still respects the Constitution and his role in interpreting it, or if he has become just another Deep State skunk.

Might as well find out now.

Well, yes, because she hasn’t uttered an un-scripted word in public in 30 years. – The Pantsuit Princess was over in jolly old England on Friday, making herself a nuisance to the Brits for a change.  At one point, she recited a line someone had written for her comparing herself to …wait for it…Winston Churchill!  Yes, THAT Winston Churchill.  Here’s the line:

“I’m sure they said that about Churchill between the wars, didn’t they?  I mean, I’m not comparing myself (oh, no, perish the thought!), but I’m just saying people said that, but he was right about Hitler, and a lot of people in England were wrong. And Churchill was a pain. He kept popping up all the time.”

See how she did that?  She not only equates herself to the greatest conservative figure in British history, but also gets in the shameful “Trump = Hitler” dig.  Her scriptwriters are obviously working overtime.

Unfortunately for the Fainting Felon, the British press is a little quicker on the uptake than the 2 digit IQ U.S. media, and a reporter for the U.K. Guardian hilariously notes that the Coughing Crook made the Churchill reference “a fraction too quickly for the line to sound spontaneous.”

You don’t say, my good man.

Hey, if you’re doomed to lose an election, might as well make it a complete bloodbath, right? – Hey, remember when every liberal/leftist/progressive/socialist/communist Democrat in America was telling all of us that criticizing a federal law enforcement agency was tantamount to treason?  Yeah, what was that, last week?

Well, this is this week, and now the Democrats are not only criticizing a federal law enforcement agency – ICE – they’re equating the agency to nothing but a bunch of …wait for it…Nazis (don’t they have anything else?) and now pushing bills to eliminate the agency entirely.  Man, did that escalate quickly, or what?

Yes, friends, the same bunch of lying circus clowns who told you that one must never utter a word of criticism against the utterly-corrupted FBI lest you be accused of being a traitor to your nation are now pushing actual legislation to eliminate the federal agency that plays the main role in apprehending MS-13 gang members and guess what else?  Child traffickers.

That’s the agency the Democrats want to eliminate, the one that has been responsible for a 400% increase in apprehension of child traffickers over the 18 months since Donald Trump became President.  Let that sink in.

November is going to be a Red Tsunami.

Don’t believe me?  President Trump understands what a powerful issue this will be for Republican congressional candidates.  As I was compiling this piece early Saturday morning, the POTUS issued the following Tweets on the subject:

Today, to top it all off for the Democrats, their professional radical agitator community is staging anti-ICE, pro-open borders demonstrations in hundreds of cities and towns all across the country.  Of course, the two senators who have come out in favor of eliminating ICE – Kirsten Gillebrand and Kamala Harris – are both running for President in 2020, and they obviously believe the best way to win the nomination is to pander to the Democrat Party’s most radical faction.

No word yet from either on how they plan to move to the middle for the general election after they spend a year sucking up to MS-13 and the nation’s child molester communities, but we can be sure they have a plan that involves copious amounts of lying, because that’s what leftwing politicians always fall back on when all else fails.

My goodness.

Hey, about that Supreme Court vacancy… – But make no mistake, the immigration issue is not the Democrats’ only death-spiral issue for the midterm elections this year – they also appear intent to commit self-immolation over the vacancy on the supreme court that exists due to Anthony Kennedy’s retirement.  For the Democrats, this vacancy is about what all supreme court nominations in the last 45 years have been about:  The fall-on-your-sword defense of the most baseless supreme court decision in American history, 1973’s Roe v. Wade.

This is terrible for the Democrats for one main reason:  it will turn off many of the middle-to-upper-class, suburban mothers with whom their party has made significant in-roads over the last few election cycles.  Yes, they used the same strategy to oppose Neil Gorsuch, but that fight was in mid-2017, long enough ago to have faded from the memories of most of this crucial voter faction.

Now, the Democrats are going to be using all of their harsh “kill babies at all costs at all times” rhetoric bare weeks before Election Day, making speech after speech and TV appearance after TV appearance parroting their pro-abortion talking points.  All to keep in place a decision that has no real foundation in the Constitution, and which has been the single most divisive decision in the Court’s history.

They’re going to do all of that because their radical voter base demands it, but these suburban women are not leftist radicals.  They’re moms with little kids running around the house, kids to whom they gave birth and love with all their hearts.  When they witness the radical, often violent demonstrations coming to our nation’s streets this summer and fall, many of them are going to be turned completely off and decide to either stay at home or vote for the Republican candidate because they can’t stand to support that kind of depravity.

President Trump announced yesterday that he has narrowed his field of candidates for the nomination to five judges – three men and two women – and will make his announcement on July 9.  He’s not going to waste any time here because, as with the ICE issue, he understands what a winner it is for him and his political party.

The Democrats, as usual, appear to be clueless.  And that’s how we like them.

The Democrat Meltdown Over the Supreme Court Vacancy Gets Off to a Rollicking Start

Tired of all this Winning yet? Part I – With Justice Anthony Kennedy announcing his long-anticipated retirement from Supreme Court on Wednesday, it was just like Election Night 2016 over at CNN.  Check out these looooooooonnnnnng faces:

Tired of all this Winning yet?  Part II – Oh, but it got even better over on Twitter (because liberal outrage and angst is always better on Twitter), with SJWs and snowflakes wailing out their innermost feelings in 280 characters or less.  Here are a couple of examples:

Yes, because this 81 year-old man had an obligation to keep working to make sure helpless snowflakes like Molly Knight wouldn’t have meltdowns on Twitter.  My goodness.

There were many  more examples of liberal depravity and dementia in the wake of Kennedy’s announcement, but they pretty much all involve the “F” word or explicit references to male and female body parts, so I won’t quote them here.

Note that Ms. Knight is already promising riots over this change in a single Supreme Court justice.  She was far from alone.  Former Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards (Md.) told the execrable Nicole Wallace on MSNBC that “It’s time for Democrats to throw down, and what I mean by that is we’ve been playing by the rule book, and Donald Trump and Republicans have been playing by street rules,” Edwards said. “We need to play by street rules.”

Oh, hey, everyone, what we’ve been seeing from the lunatic Democrats the last 20 months is them “playing by the rule book.”  Of course, Ms. Edwards left out that it’s the Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals rulebook, but I’m sure she just ran out of time.

Then there’s Angela Rye, who is some sort of “analyst” for last-place CNN.  Her advice to Democrats went like this:  “They have to raise hell,” Rye said. “I said it kind of—whatever, but I mean, like, seriously. This is a decision that doesn’t just impact our lives next year or the next two years.”  Man, is that some serious analysis, or what?

Not to be outdone, alleged serial woman harasser Chris Matthews (how does this guy still have his job?) told his audience that the nomination fight over Kennedy’s vacant seat is a “time for vengeance” for Democrats. See?  This is the Democrats and their fake media guardians, playing by that “rule book.”

While the Democrats were actually relieved that Kennedy’s announcement now gives them an excuse to quit talking about the fake “don’t separate the families!” border issue that is killing them in the polls, the truth is that the politics of this situation are equally horrible for them, really as bad as they could possibly be.  Even though craven RINOs like Susan Collins and Jeff Flake are already scurrying out of the woodwork promising to use the nominating process to satisfy personal grudges with President Trump, the fact of the matter is that the Democrats don’t control a single lever of power in this process – they have no means whatsoever of stopping it.

For that, they have their own ex-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to thank, because it was Reid who decided to go down the road of eliminating the filibuster rule on judicial nominations.  Too bad, so sad, as my kids used to say.

To make matters even worse, the Democrats in this mid-term election year have at minimum 8 incumbent senators from states won by Donald Trump in 2016 who are in serious jeopardy of losing their bids to retain their seats.  The vote on Kennedy’s replacement will in all likelihood come at some point in October, bare weeks before Election Day.

Think of the fix in which this places Democrat senators like North Dakota’s Heidi Heitkamp, Montana’s Jon Tester, Missouri’s Claire McCaskill, Florida’s Bill Nelson, and West Virginia’s Joe Manchin.  They and other vulnerable Dems are going to be placed under severe pressure by the Party’s far-left voter base and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to march in lockstep (because marching in lockstep is what good little fascists are best at) with the rest of the Democrat senators in opposing any nominee.  But for many of these folks, doing that will be fatal, assuming President Trump puts forward another nominee of similar character and quality as Neil Gorsuch.

Trust me, Trump’s nominee has to be someone who is completely impeccable of character and whose record of public service is unassailable in any honest way.  The Democrats will go to extreme lengths to “Bork” him or her by portraying them as “too extreme” to assume a seat on the highest court.  Failing that, they will then subject the nominee to the Clarence Thomas strategy, so expect a parade of people coming forward to hurl false accusations of harassment or some other form of bad behavior in an effort to execute what then-nominee Thomas called “a high-tech lynching.”  Because this is what the Democrats and their media guardians do.

One thing we can all be absolutely certain of is this:  President Donald Trump (I never tire of typing those three words) will put forward a stellar, high-character, strict constructionist nominee to fill this vacancy.  He will do that because that is what he promised to do in his campaign, and this man, like no president before him, keeps his promises to the American people.

Everybody Send a Thank-you Card to Mitch McConnell

You could tell Anthony Kennedy was about to retire, because he suddenly started voting consistently the right way on decision after decision after decision over the past month.  Indeed, the last 17 5-4 decisions handed down by this Supreme Court all went the way of the Constitution because Kennedy, that perennial disappointment to conservatives everywhere, voted along with the strict constructionist wing of the court.

All this new-found consistency for the first time in his 31 years on the court led me to comment to a friend the other day that Kennedy was definitely about to retire because he wasn’t issuing his usual random  horrible liberal decisions in order to keep his name on the list of invitees to all the best dinner parties in Washington, DC.

Regardless, today’s announcement came as welcome news, meaning as it does that President Donald J. Trump will be able to appoint a true conservative successor who will allow the Supreme Court to continue to serve as a consistent block on the worst excesses of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for a few more years.  While I have nothing but the highest regard for the great Clarence Thomas, I find myself hoping he will make a similar announcement soon so that we don’t have to worry about his passing away at a dangerous moment as Antonin Scalia did in 2016.

Speaking of 2016, let’s all consider where our country would be today were it not for the steadfast refusal by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to consider confirmation of Obama nominee Merrick Garland, who would have cemented a liberal majority on the Court for years to come.  Every one of those 17 5-4 decisions handed down by this session of the court, and many more would have gone the other way.

The free exercise of religion and speech would today be all but gone as a result.  Labor unions would now enjoy an unfettered right to tax non-union employees and funnel their money to the Democrat Party.  The presidential power to temporarily ban immigration from certain countries to protect American citizens would be a thing of the past.  So many of the freedoms we have taken for granted all of our lives would be in real jeopardy from a power-mad, hard-left supreme court.

Mitch McConnell, for all of his shortcomings and all the many, many times he has disappointed us over the years, made sure none of those things happened to our society.  He did it in the face of extreme pressure from some of his squishy GOP colleagues (you all know who I’m talking about), and a withering assault on his personal character from the Democrat goon squad in our fake news media.

The easy thing for McConnell to do in that situation would have been to throw up his hands, say “them’s the rules” even though they aren’t, and preserve his own permanent invitation to all the best dinner parties by allowing the Court – and the nation – to become captive of the radical left.  But McConnell did the hard thing, and for that he deserves everyone’s undying gratitude.

Donald Trump Just Keeps On Winning

Tired of all this Winning yet?  Part I –  Nevada Senator Dean Heller told a Las Vegas radio station on Thursday that Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy will be retiring this summer.  Let’s hope he’s right – Justice Kennedy, in his role as the wishy-washy swing vote on the court, has been responsible for more awful decisions in the last 30 years than perhaps any Justice in U.S. history.  Given President Trump’s record of appointing real constitutional conservatives to the bench, Kennedy’s retirement cannot come soon enough.

Tired of all this Winning yet?  Part II –  February’s official non-farm payroll report from the Labor Department shows that the Trump economy added a whopping 313,000 new jobs during the month, out-pacing expectations by more than 50%.  WINNING WINNING WINNING WINNING WINNING WINNING.

Tired of all this Winning yet? Part III – President Trump formally imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum tariffs, but as I speculated last week, he is using them as tools in negotiations with other countries.  As always with Mr. Trump, everything is a negotiation.

His initial tariffs provide exemptions for both Canada and Mexico, pending the outcome of ongoing re-negotiations of the NAFTA treaty.  Carrot, meet stick.

The President also noted that other countries – are you listening, China and Japan? – would have the ability to negotiate their way to lower tariffs or outright elimination of them.

“I’ll have a right to go up or down depending on the country, and I’ll have a right to drop out countries or add countries,” Trump said Thursday while previewing his announcement in an appearance alongside his Cabinet. “We’re going to be very fair, we’re going to be very flexible, but we’re going to protect the American worker — as I said I would do in my campaign.”

So, Mr. Trump keeps a campaign promise – one that has already seen U.S. Steel announce the hiring of 500 new workers – provides a carrot to North American allies to negotiate in good faith, and provides a stick to encourage China and Japan to engage in fairer trade with our country.  The stock market responded to Mr. Trump’s announcement by shooting upwards.  The fake journalists at the Washington Post characterized this as Mr. Trump backing down from his original plan.  Mr. Trump characterizes it as #Winning.

Tired of all this Winning yet?  Part IV – President Trump had a very busy day on Thursday, as he also announced that he has agreed to meet with North Korea’s Crazy Little Fat Guy.  According to South Korean National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong, the Crazy Little Fat Guy expressed “eagerness” to meet with the U.S. President “as soon as possible” to discuss de-nuclearization in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions on his country.  President Trump has agreed in principle to the meeting, and boy wouldn’t you like to be a fly on the wall for that one?

The hilarious thing about yesterday’s announcement was watching Fox, and CNN spend a full hour between 6 and 7 ET hyping the press conference that was going to take place outside the White House at 7 p.m., and then having Mr. Chung come out, deliver a 15-second announcement, and promptly march right back into the White House without taking a single question.  This, of course, leaves the press and the rest of us with more questions than answers about the proposed meeting.

Before we get too excited about all of this, it’s important to note that it is all being filtered through the South Korean government, which has been holding talks with the Crazy Little Fat Guy and his entourage of hangers-on.  There has not yet been any formal communication directly between the U.S. and North Korean government on this meeting, so all we have right now is speculation.

We don’t even know, for example, where such a meeting would take place.  It is doubtful the little North Korean dictator would want to venture down to South Korea, and there is no way the President of the United States will be traveling to North Korea, or even to the demilitarized zone, due to security reasons.  So any meeting would have to take place either in the U.S., or in some neutral place such as Geneva, Switzerland.

A meeting in a neutral country presents all sorts of logistical hurdles and time limitations for having President Trump involved, so the reality here is that the U.S. would want to hold heavy preliminary negotiations before the two leaders actually meet.  If the Crazy Little Fat Guy is not really serious about giving up his strategic nukes and is just looking to use a negotiation process as a delaying tactic to hold off any U.S. military action while he continues to develop his intercontinental ballistic missile delivery systems, American negotiators should be able to determine that early on, and the proposed meeting between Kim and Trump would likely never take place.

President Trump referred to yesterday’s announcement as “great progress,” and perhaps it is.  We can always hope, at least, that that will turn out to be the case.  But what we really have right now is a lot of speculation with little real information to support it.  The North Koreans have a long history of sandbagging U.S. presidents like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama with glowing promises of good behavior, but then failing to come through once sanctions have been lifted.

To that point, Mr. Trump promised his administration would not make the mistake of lifting any sanctions while diplomacy is taking place.  In the coming months, he will almost certainly come under pressure from the appeasement-minded boobs in the State Department to do exactly that.  Everyone should hope that Mr. Trump holds firm.  No one named Kim has ever proved to be worthy of American trust, and we can be sure that the Crazy Little Fat Guy is no exception to that sad rule.

I predicted back in December that the situation with North Korea would ultimately be resolved without the firing of a single shot, and still believe that.  Yesterday’s events are encouraging on that point, even though there is still a very long road to be traveled.

Just another day in Donald Trump just keeps on winning America.
