Wednesday News Roundup: Fauci is a Menace, an Environmentalist’s Apology, BLM/Antifa Shooting in Provo

Just one more reason to lock Dr. Anthony Fauci in a broom closet and lose the key. – Back in January, Dr. Fauci – who has never found a cure for any virus and is yet to get a single thing right about this one – assured us that COVID-19 presented no immediate threat to the United States.

Yesterday, during testimony before a Senate committee, Fauci said this about a new viral gift from China:

Why is this menace to our society still employed by the federal government, and still making media appearances on behalf of the Trump Administration? His ongoing presence in the national debate is even more malevolent and destructive than that of Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff.

That’s why the lone bright spot in yesterday’s hearing came from Dr. Rand Paul, Senator from Kentucky, who sliced, diced and ground Fauci’s unbridled hubris into a million pieces. From a report at Political Insider:

“Fatal conceit is the concept that central planning with decision making concentrated in a few hands can never fully grasp the millions of complex, individual interactions occurring simultaneously in the marketplace. It is a fatal conceit to believe any one person or small group of people has the knowledge necessary to direct an economy or dictate public health behaviour,” Senator Paul explained.

“I think government health experts during this pandemic need to show caution in their prognostications. It’s important to realize that if society meekly submits to an expert, and that expert is wrong, a great deal of harm may occur. When we allow one man’s policy or one group of small men or women to be foisted on an entire nation,” he continued.

Senator Paul gave the example of experts demanding school closures, in order to control the spread of the coronavirus. This is despite solid examples from all over the world, that show no surge in cases when schools open. Contact tracing studies in China, the U.K., Netherlands, and Iceland also failed to find a single case of child to adult infection.

“Perhaps our planners might think twice before they weigh in on every subject. Perhaps our government advisors might hold their tongue,” Paul argued.

“Why weigh in with these opinions that we have no knowledge of? They are forecasts that may well be wrong. Perhaps our experts might consider the undue fear they are instilling in teachers who are now afraid to go back to work. We shouldn’t presume that a group of experts somehow knows what’s best for everyone,” he added.

[End]

Dr. Paul did not call Fauci out by name, but it is obvious who he was referring to in his remarks. Whether Fauci, stewed as he is in a toxic mixture of arrogance and media adulation, took any of it to heart is doubtful.

This little man is a national menace.

Environmentalist Dr. Michael Shellenberger stands as a stark contrast to Dr. Fauci. Shellenberger is the rarest of rare individuals in the world of climate change environmentalism – an expert who understands the limits of his own ability to predict the future using the same kind of faulty computer models that once told us we would lose 2 million Americans to COVID-19, and who understands the incredible damage to global society that has been committed by those in his profession.

Yesterday, Shellenberger published a piece at Quillette.com titled, “On Behalf Of Environmentalists, I Apologize For The Climate Scare.” The title is self-descriptive of the content.

Here’s an excerpt:

On behalf of environmentalists everywhere, I would like to formally apologize for the climate scare we created over the last 30 years. Climate change is happening. It’s just not the end of the world. It’s not even our most serious environmental problem. I may seem like a strange person to be saying all of this. I have been a climate activist for 20 years and an environmentalist for 30.

But as an energy expert asked by Congress to provide objective expert testimony, and invited by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to serve as expert reviewer of its next assessment report, I feel an obligation to apologize for how badly we environmentalists have misled the public.

Here are some facts few people know:

  • Humans are not causing a “sixth mass extinction”

  • The Amazon is not “the lungs of the world”

  • Climate change is not making natural disasters worse

  • Fires have declined 25 percent around the world since 2003

  • The amount of land we use for meat—humankind’s biggest use of land—has declined by an area nearly as large as Alaska

  • The build-up of wood fuel and more houses near forests, not climate change, explain why there are more, and more dangerous, fires in Australia and California

  • Carbon emissions are declining in most rich nations and have been declining in Britain, Germany, and France since the mid-1970s

  • The Netherlands became rich, not poor while adapting to life below sea level

  • We produce 25 percent more food than we need and food surpluses will continue to rise as the world gets hotter

  • Habitat loss and the direct killing of wild animals are bigger threats to species than climate change

  • Wood fuel is far worse for people and wildlife than fossil fuels

  • Preventing future pandemics requires more not less “industrial” agriculture

I know that the above facts will sound like “climate denialism” to many people. But that just shows the power of climate alarmism.

[End]

Go read the piece in full. It’ll be the best 10 minutes you spend all day.

I keep telling everyone that BLM and Antifa are just different names for the same terrorist groups. – Yesterday in Provo, Utah, Black Lives Matter engaged in a dangerous escalation of its tactics, as one of the group’s activists actually shot a man who was attempting to escape from a mob of BLM thugs who had surrounded his car:

Despicably, the corrupt news media attempted to portray the driver as the bad guy, until enterprising people on Twitter slowed down and enhanced the video to clearly show that it was a BLM activist who did the shooting. The utter depravity of our news media today simply knows no depths.

This morning, Provo police announce they have arrested a suspect:

The police go on to say:

Police also arrested Samantha Darling, 27-year-old resident of Ogden City, and booked her into custody at the Utah County Jail for a charge of Obstruction of Justice and Rioting. The Provo Police Department extends its thanks to citizens…

who gave evidence and testimony to investigators and to allied agencies and officers who assisted this investigation, notably Ogden and Salt Lake City Police Departments. The investigation of criminal acts incident to protest events in Provo last night is ongoing.

[End]

Rumors flew yesterday of a second gunman on the opposite side of the street also drawing a pistol and aiming it at the vehicle, but no proof has come to light thus far.

Regardless, this incident demonstrates a very dangerous escalation of the Antifa/BLM insurgency in our country. It’s obvious that President Trump would prefer to avoid calling in the National Guard to put these riots down, but the escalating violence and animalistic behavior increasingly exhibited by these Marxist radicals, combined with the refusal by local officials to take effective action, could ultimately leave him no choice.

They’re shooting people now, Mr. President. The National Guard and your powers to declare national emergencies exist for a reason. Time is growing short to make use of them.

That is all.

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan is a Raging, Despicable Hypocrite

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan couldn’t be bothered to try to protect her city’s citizens when they were seeing their property destroyed by rioters for two weeks in early June. She didn’t have a care in the world for business owners who had their stores looted and vandalized. She stood by and made fun of residents and workers in the 6 square block area of her city that was taken over by Antifa and BLM thugs and dubbed first the CHAZ and then the CHOP.

The Mayor praised the CHAZ/CHOP as a new “summer of love,” and continued to defend it even after her chief of police expressed her concern about not being able to help people in that zone of depravity who were being assaulted and beaten up. She even defended the heavily armed leftist criminals who ran the place after the first murder that happened there, only finally relenting and claiming she was going to let her police rid the zone of its human pestilence last weekend after a second murder had taken place.

But boy, let a member of her city council organize a protest action in front of her house and suddenly Mayor Jenny Durkan is an outraged woman of action.

From a piece by Sara Carter:

Seattle’s Mayor Jenny Durkan on Sunday issued a statement after a group gathered outside her home to protest her decision to dismantle their autonomous zone, saying the protestors have no “regard” for her “safety.”

“Mayor Durkan and her family are in the state program to keep their address confidential because of the death threats mostly related to her work as Seattle’s U.S. Attorney under President Obama,” a statement from the mayor’s office read. “Instead of working to make true change, Councilmember Sawant continues to choose political stunts. Tonight she did so without regard for the safety of the Mayor and her family. The Mayor was not even home – she was working at City Hall. Seattle can and should peacefully demonstrate but should not put families and children at risk.”

[End]

That was on Sunday. Today, she issued a letter to the city council requesting that it “punish or expel” councilwoman Sawant for essentially doxxing her:

Mayor Durkan is justified in being concerned for her family over this leftist idiot’s decision to organize a potentially violent group of domestic terrorists to protest at her home. She is also the world’s worst hypocrite for refusing to express any similar concerns for the people of her city as their property was destroyed and their lives placed in danger as Durkan sat by and did nothing.

Bottom line: Jenny Durkan is today’s Worst Person in the World.

That is all.

Larry Schweikart: An Alternative Theory of the Riots

Guest Piece by Larry Schweikart

Some of you may know that I’m a historian of American banking and finance—that was my original research area and I probably wrote 4-5 books on the subject. What makes that all the more remarkable is that I never took a formal course in banking, finance, or even economics in my life. It was all “on the job training.”

So in a recent chat with a former co-author, Professor Charles Calormiris of Columbia University, on an article that came to be the most-cited piece I’ve ever written (“The Panic of 1857,” Journal of Economic History), our conversation naturally turned to banking. He began discussing research from his 2015 book “Fragile By Design” with Stephen Haber. He mentioned that something they found in that book now seemed all the clearer in light of recent riots.

In the 1990s through the early 2000s, there was a merger wave occurring among banks and financial firms. Many of you will remember your local, hometown banks began to disappear, replaced by J. P. Morgan Chase, Citibank, Wachovia, and Bank of America. It turns out that in the late 1990s, in order to gain congressional approval for these pending mergers, the banks needed to get certain legislators on their side. Legislators who were, shall we say, highly persuaded by minority communities. More to the point, the big banks needed leading black organizations and leaders to support their mergers.

Now, you ask, what possibly could be the benefit to minorities of having giants like Citibank or Chase take over more local banks? Under normal circumstances, nothing. But shakedown artists like Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton always know where to find a buck. In this case it was “community reinvestment.” Banks, they figured, could be “encouraged” to make massive loans in minority neighborhoods. Gee, someone might have to, er, “direct” such lending, wouldn’t they?

Absolutely. May I introduce NCRC, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. Bank loans to the “minority community” were funneled through the NCRC—no doubt with the reverends taking a reasonable fee for their services—and in return, the black community wrote letters and gave testimony supporting the mergers. Just how much money are we talking about here? Two trillion dollars.

That money began to run out in 2015. The loans were usually either 10- or 15-year loan programs. “What’s the big deal? Just go back and shake them down again,” you say. Not so fast: the mergers are already complete. The banks don’t need the black community anymore. Just where were the bulk of these loans made? Oh, my friends, you know the answer to that. Calomiris and Haber found the usual suspects: Baltimore, St. Louis, Chicago—virtually anywhere there has been a riot recently.

It’s abundantly clear that one (perhaps only one, but perhaps the most important) of the factors that kept the streets quiet was the “walkin’ around money” spread by the banks seeking mergers. While the “Black Lives Matter” corporate coercion may produce relative dabs of cash, the leaders of these movements cannot hope to make up a $2 trillion shortfall. There may be much more to these riots than just “police brutality.” The gravy train has run out, and for now, even the ransom payments from corporate America won’t come close to replacing it.

The Kurt Schlichter Message Everyone Should Heed

The Mid-Day Campaign Update

Conservative columnist Kurt Schlichter has a thread on Twitter today that everyone should read and digest. His message is simple: While the corrupt news media wants you to believe that the entire country is disintegrating around your ears, the truth is that the social unrest and monument toppling is taking place in isolated areas of big cities run exclusively by Democrats.

Here is Schlichter’s thread:

Pulling down statues in leftist cities that refuse to maintain order is an attempt to psyche you into thinking everything is out of control.

It’s not. 2/

A couple hundred people in Frisco? The local cops were ordered to let it happen. Same with DC. What is this. 3/

So you think “Why isn’t Trump doing something?” But it’s a few hundred bums out of 330 million. And local cities could turn it off in a heartbeat – but refuse to.

Why? 4/

To convince you, the law and order types, that Trump is allowing mass chaos. But it’s not mass by any standard.
Nor is it chaos, aside the local  Democrats who are actively facilitating it and making sure no one is actually getting hurt (except dummies that the statues fall on) 5/

What would you have Trump do?Have him do a dirty, violent job the locals refuse to? Send soldiers in and risk real violence – which plays against him?

It’s infuriating – and it’s meant to be – but Trump’s right not to take the bait. 6/

The answer is to let the left cities have their performance art fun. Let them trash themselves. Understand how it’s meant to manipulate you. If they leave Dem areas, unleash the local cops.

Do not do what the enemy wants! 7/

Be woke to the enemy’s game plan. Support the President. Do not be suckered – he isn’t!

Watch him use the DoJ! Buy guns and ammunition for legitimate deterrence & lawful self-defense.

Vote GOP down the line – better yet, campaign! 8/

[Thanks for the attention the thread has received]

Ask yourself – have you heard the name “George Floyd” lately, especially in connection with the couple of Dem cities where statues were pulled?

Nope.

Floyd was their cover. It’s gone. And normal people hate pointless chaos 10/

It went from protests people did not think were illegitimate (which the bad actors exploited) to violence with no arguably legitimate cause.

The Dems try to exploit the Antifa types as storm troopers, but their control of the radicals is limited. 11/

Remember, Democrats really only want a return to the status quo (minus us normal people having rights and the ability to again disrupt the status quo). But their radical cat’s paws want revolution.

The Dems are riding a tiger. 12/

The radicals are over their skis past what normal people consider legitimate protests.

Dems are content with the chaos for now, since it causes us to think Trump is out of control, but they worry the radicals will tire of meaningless Dem city antics and threaten the suburbs. 13/

The second those whiny white wine women feel themselves or their families physically or economically threatened, they will turn to the strong horse – Trump, and law + order.

Biden is a hapless tool who can’t/won’t protect them.

Their husbands are already there. 14/

Trump’s Game Plan:

1 – Identify himself with law + order

2 – Avoid using federal force that can turn into Kent State 2 (the Dem dream)

3 –  Use the DOJ to prosecute & deter the radicals who were happy to riot knowing Dem prosecutors would give them a pass

4 – Let them overstep 15/

The Dems win if we panic and capitulate before their radical partners radically overstep. And being radical is what radicals do.

Don’t panic. Don’t let the media – which is all in with the left – manipulate you.

Get prepared and get woke. 16/

Want a quick sanity check? Look out your window. Unless you overlook Golden Gate Park in Scat Francisco, the Atlanta Wendy’s or that DC square, there’s no chaos outside.

It’s all a show designed to scare you away from Trump and into the gropey embrace of Puppet Joe! 17/

[End]

Now, it can be hard for ordinary folks out here in flyover country to keep all of this stuff in perspective when we are being subjected to yet another massive brainwashing effort by the nation’s corrupt news media in collusion with the Democrat Party. But that’s exactly what Schlichter does for you with this thread.

What he says is undeniably true: Outside of these Democrat-run cities, life in America is by and large going on as usual. My wife and I drove 30 miles through the DFW Metroplex yesterday to have dinner with some family at a fine Dallas restaurant. Traffic was normal – which in DFW means heavy – the malls and shopping centers were filled with customers, and the diverse crowd at the restaurant were all in a good mood, interacting with the staff and with one another in the normal Texas way.

The local news this morning tells me that there was a modest demonstration taking place in nearby downtown Dallas, but we neither saw nor heard any of it. Meanwhile, the rioting and unrest continued in leftist Democrat cities like Portland, Washington, DC and Atlanta, but again, 99% of people in those cities were unimpacted by them.

The Democrats and their corrupt media toadies want you to believe that the country is falling apart and that it’s all Trump’s fault so that they can convince you to vote for a frail, elderly man that you can plainly see is very likely in the early stages of some form of dementia. Actually, maybe not-so-early stages. Convincing you that Joe Biden, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the ChiCom government and serial fondler of women and their daughters at public events, is the only thing standing between you and societal destruction is literally the only hope the Democrats have of winning this election.

The country is not falling apart, but it will fall apart if we put the same people who have overseen the staged riots and looting and burning of large swaths of major cities over the past month in charge of the federal government. The truth is that Donald J. Trump is the only thing standing between you and that disastrous outcome.

That is all.

Monday News Roundup: CHAZ Demands, Stelter Pounded, and Truth From the Least Expected Place

SHOCK: Berkeley professor tells the flat-out truth about George Floyd and the riots. – This was referred to me by a friend on Sunday. It’s something you really don’t expect to see, unvarnished truth coming from a professor on the campus of UC Berkeley in a letter to his colleagues. Here’s a short excerpt from it:

I am one of your colleagues at the University of California, Berkeley. I have met you both personally but do not know you closely, and am contacting you anonymously, with apologies. I am worried that writing this email publicly might lead to me losing my job, and likely all future jobs in my field.

In your recent departmental emails you mentioned our pledge to diversity, but I am increasingly alarmed by the absence of diversity of opinion on the topic of the recent protests and our community response to them. In the extended links and resources you provided, I could not find a single instance of substantial counter-argument or alternative narrative to explain the under-representation of black individuals in academia or their over-representation in the criminal justice system. The explanation provided in your documentation, to the near exclusion of all others, is univariate: the problems of the black community are caused by whites, or, when whites are not physically present, by the infiltration of white supremacy and white systemic racism into American brains, souls, and institutions.

Many cogent objections to this thesis have been raised by sober voices, including from within the black community itself, such as Thomas Sowell and Wilfred Reilly. These people are not racists or ‘Uncle Toms’. They are intelligent scholars who reject a narrative that strips black people of agency and systematically externalizes the problems of the black community onto outsiders. Their view is entirely absent from the departmental and UCB-wide communiques.

The claim that the difficulties that the black community faces are entirely causally explained by exogenous factors in the form of white systemic racism, white supremacy, and other forms of white discrimination remains a problematic hypothesis that should be vigorously challenged by historians. Instead, it is being treated as an axiomatic and actionable truth without serious consideration of its profound flaws, or its worrying implication of total black impotence. This hypothesis is transforming our institution and our culture, without any space for dissent outside of a tightly policed, narrow discourse.

[End]

You can and should go read the rest of it at this link. You’ll be better educated for doing so.

Speaking of George Floyd… – The “peaceful protesters” were back out on the streets of New York City on Sunday.:

With “peaceful protesters” like these, who needs Antifa?

Here is a Trump advisor who needs more airtime. – Watch as Trump Campaign legal advisor Jenna Ellis puts CNN’s resident news-faking eunuch Brian Stelter in his place:

The truth hurts, especially when it occasionally shows up on CNN.

Speaking of news-faking eunuchs… – Fox News’s own resident news-faking eunuch, Chris Wallace, took a moment off from hawking his latest ghost-written book to say this on the same subject:

“You see some reporters now who have become advocates — I see it in the press briefings now. You know, I was pretty tough in the press briefings with Ronald Reagan and his press secretaries in the 80s, but we were basically trying to get information. Some of the press briefings now I see the White House press corps — it’s supposed to be one of the top jobs in journalism — it’s more playing gotcha or more just trying to get in arguments and advance their point of view. That’s not what we’re supposed to be doing.”

“I think too many reporters have fallen into the role of being advocates and, frankly with this president, anti-Trump advocates,” Wallace continued, saying that journalists need to be able to stay “neutral” and “call balls and strikes.”

[End]

Of course, he preceded that by parroting Stelter’s complaint that the President’s “attacks” on corrupt media outlets are somehow “outrageous.” Because, in his heart, Chris Wallace is no different from his muck-raking Marxist daddy.

Well, except for New York City, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago and every other Democrat-run city in America. – House majority whip James Clyburn actually said that “nobody is going to defund the police” in an interview over the weekend.

On the very same day, the New York Times ran an op/ed penned by a Democrat activist titled “Yes, We Mean Literally Abolish the Police.” Just so that no one thinks that the headline might not reflect the piece’s content, here are the first three paragraphs:

Congressional Democrats want to make it easier to identify and prosecute police misconduct; Joe Biden wants to give police departments $300 million. But efforts to solve police violence through liberal reforms like these have failed for nearly a century.

Enough. We can’t reform the police. The only way to diminish police violence is to reduce contact between the public and the police.

There is not a single era in United States history in which the police were not a force of violence against black people. Policing in the South emerged from the slave patrols in the 1700 and 1800s that caught and returned runaway slaves. In the North, the first municipal police departments in the mid-1800s helped quash labor strikes and riots against the rich. Everywhere, they have suppressed marginalized populations to protect the status quo.

[End]

D’oh! Somebody forgot to send the DNC talking points memo to the New York Times.

How about we just declare everyone participating in the CHAZ to be an illegal alien and deport them instead? – This is rich: The Antifa morons occupying Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone demanded on Sunday that the U.S. immediately provide amnesty to the 20 million+ illegal aliens currently in the country. As reported by Breitbart:

Officials for CHAZ also said illegal aliens must be called “undocumented” because “no person is illegal.” The demands include:

We demand that the funding previously used for Seattle Police be redirected into:

A) Socialized Health and Medicine for the City of Seattle.

B) Free public housing, because housing is a right, not a privilege.

C) Public education, to decrease the average class size in city schools and increase teacher salary.

D) Naturalization services for immigrants to the United States living here undocumented. (We demand they be called “undocumented” because no person is illegal.)

E) General community development. Parks, etc.

So, here we have a bunch of people who are literally claiming to have invented their own separate and autonomous country by illegally occupying six square blocks in downtown Seattle, sending out a list of demands to the U.S. government. Seems like the proper approach here would be for the federal government to recognize the CHAZites’ separate, non-U.S. citizenship and deport them to someplace like Venezuela where they would feel more at home and no doubt be treated as they deserve to be treated by the authorities there.

You seriously could never make this stuff up.

That is all.

The BLM Long Knives Come out for Val Demings

Today’s Campaign Update (Because the Campaign Never Ends)

Nobody’s immune from the BLM intolerance mob. – Val Demings, the former police chief of Orlando, Florida and current congresswoman from there, has been getting a ton of attention from the corrupt news media since she has been regularly mentioned as being on the short list to become the running mate of Creepy Uncle Quid Pro Farty China Joe Biden. But in these days of the lunatic cancel culture, that kind of attention can be a dangerous thing.

Demings is finding that out the hard way this morning as she has now become the latest target of the leftist intolerance mob, led by Black Lives Matter. Specifically, she has become the target of one Hawk Newsome, who styles himself as the President of the New York Chapter of Black Lives Matter. Asked by a reporter about Demings, Newsome responded by saying “Joe Biden would be an idiot to put her on his ticket.’People are already on the fence about him. When black people become police officers, they are no longer black. They are blue. And I have been told this by numerous officers.”

Well, golly, there you go. See, to Black Lives Matter, Black lives don’t matter once they’ve turned “blue.” Just as the 30-40 Black lives that are snuffed out every weekend by Black gangsters in Chicago don’t matter. Just as the hundreds of thousands of Black lives that are ended by an abortionist’s knife in a Planned Parenthood facility every year don’t matter.

The only Black lives that matter to Black Lives Matter are Black lives that are politically advantageous to the Democrat Party.

That’s the truth about Black Lives Matter.

Ok, so, who’s next on that list? – Did someone say Senator Kamala Harris? Oh, yeah, girl, they’re coming for you next. Do not doubt it.

See, Kamala Harris spent years serving as the Attorney General of California, otherwise known as that state’s chief law enforcement officer. You think she isn’t “blue” in the racist, bigoted eyes of Black Lives Matter activists? Please.

Harris has already taken a lot of grief over the fact that, while serving in her previous post, she was an avid enforcer of maximum sentencing laws aimed at drug offenders, a disproportionate percentage of whom happen to be Black. Even better for the Black Lives Matter intolerance mob, there are all kinds of video and audio clips out there circulating around the interwebs capturing a smiling, mocking Harris in all her Willie Brown supported glory, bragging about sending all of those Black people off to prison for many years.

So, given that Biden’s handlers are under great pressure now to choose a Black woman to be their elderly, doddering candidate’s running mate, who does that leave on the list?

Well, there’s Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, whose official bio doesn’t really talk at all about what she might have achieved before becoming Mayor. But she spent several years in law practice and as a judge, so you kind of have to wonder what she might be trying to hide right now from the Intolerance Mob. She also was very critical of the recent riots that BLM helped to organize in her city, and, unlike her peers in Minneapolis, New York City, Seattle, Chicago and Portland, made aggressive use of her police force in quelling them.

Bottoms is now faced with even more rioting in her city due to another police killing of a Black suspect, whose only “crime” appears to have been getting drunk and falling asleep in his car, which was parked in a fast food restaurant’s parking lot. Given that Bottoms had her police out in force again last night, she’s obviously got a problem unless she backs off and lets BLM and Antifa set up an autonomous zone around CNN headquarters.

Then there’s Susan Rice, the pathological liar who served as Barack Obama’s National Security Advisor. Aside from being a very poor liar – which most Democrat voters consider to be a real qualification in a vice presidential or presidential candidate – Rice doesn’t appear to have any obvious “blue” disqualifications in her background, which has almost exclusively been spent in appointed political jobs.

As a result, Rice may win the Democrat Veepstakes by default unless something as yet unrevealed about her should come to light.

Should that happen, the Biden elder abusers can always turn their eyes back to Georgia gubernatorial looooooser Stacey Abrams. Abrams was all over the media this week, sadly admitting that she hasn’t received any calls from Biden’s handlers about the job, reminding everyone how eager she is to become the least qualified vice president in American history.

Keep your chin up, Stacey, there’s still hope!

Holy crap.

That is all.

America Stands on the Cusp of a Second Chance at Reconstruction

Today’s Campaign Update (Because the Campaign Never Ends)

A new Reuters poll finds that 51% of Republican voters favor “sweeping police reforms,” a finding that no doubt shocks 98% of the national news media, but won’t surprise many Republicans. After all, you just need to review the policing wasteland we have seen all across the nation over the past three weeks – and the heinous police crime that set it all off – to understand the reasons why.

One aspect of the George Floyd murder that received very little coverage from our corrupt news media was the statement made by the local County Attorney early on that it normally takes him over 6 months to bring charges in a criminal case against a police officer. Ordinary citizens enjoy no such luxury: In a case like the one against Derek Chauvin, in which the killer wasn’t even arrested until 4 days had passed, any ordinary citizen would have been charged with at least 2nd degree murder within 24 hours after the act while they were sitting in a jail cell with a 300-lb sex offender alternately named Bubba or Doris, depending on what time of day it was.

In this particular case, due to all the public outrage, the County Attorney got his slow butt in gear and expedited the process. But normally, without all the demonstrations and rioting that took place, Chauvin would have been walking around a free man for 6 months before charges were even brought against him. Why does it take so long to charge a cop? Because of all the special protections police unions negotiate into police contracts during negotiations. In many cities, firing a cop is harder than firing a treasonous Obama operative embedded in the National Security Council. It’s ridiculous.

We’ve lost sight of this now, but Chauvin had had 18 formal complaints filed against him during the course of his police career. EIGHTEEN. Literally everyone in the department knew he was a loose cannon and a bad actor, yet he was still out on the street, free to abuse the people of the community. That’s insanity. Stuff like that has to stop. Unions have their legitimate place, but their place needs to stop being to negotiate nonsense into police contracts that enable this kind of tragedy, which certainly led directly to the killing of George Floyd.

GOP Senator Rand Paul filed a bill yesterday that would outlaw the issuing and execution of “no-knock warrants,” one of which led to the killing of Breonna Taylor, an African-American resident of Louisville, Kentucky who was murdered by 3 Louisville officers while she slept in her bed on March 13. No-knock warrants are a brutish tactic straight out of the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany and have no place in a free society in which the presumption of innocence supposedly underpins our justice system.

This, too, must stop.

Two weeks ago, the Minneapolis City Council passed a resolution outlawing the use of choke holds by police officers and mandating that bystanding officers who observe another officer, like Chauvin, engaging in abusive behavior, intervene to stop it. What idiot doesn’t support a reform like that?

Well, ok, don’t answer that question – we all know there are plenty of idiots on all sides of this issue.

The point here is that, yes, most real conservative thinkers know we need significant police reforms in our country and have needed them for a very long time. There is plenty of common ground to be plowed here by people of good intent. The question, of course, is whether enough people of good intent occupy seats in both houses of congress and in state legislatures around the country to get them done. There is no doubt that President Trump would gladly sign a good bill into law, just as he did with the major prison reform bill last year.

As for the rest of us, we all need to stop just knee-jerking to sloganeering like “I back the blue!,” or “the cops are all racists and murderers!” whenever this subject comes up. It hasn’t been many years ago when we almost universally revered what we were in the habit of calling “first responders” because the truth is that 98% of them are good and brave men and women who do the best they can every day to protect the public.

The problem is that the 2% of them who aren’t present a very clear and present danger to our society, as we have conclusively witnessed over the past three weeks. Leaders of police unions need to understand this, and stop agitating for provisions in police contracts that provide bad actors with  cover to keep abusing the public.

As I wrote on Wednesday, our country has spent the last 150 years paying for the abject failure by our society’s leaders to properly execute Reconstruction following the Civil War. We did not have enough people of good intent serving in leadership positions at that time to get the job done.

What America faces today is a very similar situation – we essentially stand on the cusp of a second chance at reconstruction. The first step in that reconstruction must be to enact reforms that ensure black Americans receive the same level of police protection and courtesy received by white citizens. We have a President who has already gotten very significant reforms accomplished in this area, and solid majorities of voters for both major political parties who support further reforms.

The question will now become whether there are enough GOP members of congress like Rand Paul and enough Democrat members willing to buck the constant overreaching and obstructionism of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to get major legislation sent to the President’s desk.

There’s no time like the present to find out.

That is all.

Larry Schweikart: How Trump has Re-Shaped the American Electorate

[Note: Larry Schweikart, America’s History Teacher and author/co-author of several best selling books, is a frequent contributor here at The Campaign Update. This morning he posted a terrific thread on Twitter containing an array of insights on current events and the 2020 election dynamics, which I am reproducing here with his permisssion.]

3) How do you know Trump has largely won on both issues? They ain’t in the news.

4) When was the last time you heard about the Wall? DemoKKKrats know they cannot stop it now. They’ve given up even trying. Trump pulled off a master move in funding it through the Pentagon.

5) On trade/outsourcing, Trump proved that, yes, he did have a magic wand and yes some of the jobs did come back & were coming back steadily before China retaliated with the China Virus.

6) But DemoKKKrats know in any kind of “normal” economy, MANY of those jobs will come back.

7) I am convinced this is partly the reason for the heightened Kushner attacks last week. DemoKKKrats are still (unsuccessfully) trying to drive a wedge between the jobs/trade side of MAGA and the immigration side.

8) BTW, where is Menopausal Ann [Coulter] on this? Where is DACA?

9) DemoKKKrats have totally dropped DACA cuz they lost.

10) What is the significance of the illegal slowdown? Of the DACA loss?

11) It has spurred the DemoKKKrats even more to try to find other voters to replace them.

12) DemoKKKrats’ black support is slowly eroding.

13) Just like whites, you will see a MAGA black side (most still will out of safety concerns not say this openly) and a (yes, much larger) BLM side.

14) On the MAGA side will be business owners, middle and aspiring middle class blacks, & blue collar workers.

15) Not surprisingly, while the percentages will be different, the black community will (finally) come to resemble the white community in that you’ll have snowflake BLM/college educated blacks robotized by “higher ed” & you’ll have “practical blacks” who’ve seen the Ds do nothing.

16) There is plenty of poll support for this second group of MAGA blacks to be anywhere from 15-25% of the black electorate, but there is good reason to think there is another skeptical layer that will always just stay home rather than keep voting for liars.

17) As @helloitsthao  [Thao Nguyen] points out, this is creating a “donut” where elements of inner cities & outer ring/rural whites vote MAGA and the inner suburb snowflake Karens vote Whackadoodle Lib.

18) However, in the bigger picture, Trump has totally destroyed the DemoKKKrats’ next 50 years of voter base with sharply curtailing illegals & by attracting “practical black” votes.

19) The DemoKKKrats had to go somewhere.

20) Enter the Snowflake Karens.

21) The dual edged sword of China Virus fear porn & the shaming-on-steroids BLM hate movement have thus far succeeded with that inner ring. Most urban-dwelling college educated now hate Trump (rural do not). This is largely out of fear-shaming by SJWs now joined by the corporates.

22) Oh, here are two Larry Schweikart prophecies: First, the NFL WILL sport some sort of BLM logo on helmets & uniforms this fall. (Your response: “Well, I’ll just watch college football.”) Not so fast. VERY SOON, maybe this year you’ll also see the colleges go full BLM in their sports.

22) contd. Second, the 15% movement, where bidnesses are shamed into saying they will purchase/use suppliers who are black owned by the rate of 15%? Soon BLM will demand 30%. Then 60%. Then 100%. NO. NUMBER. WILL. EVER. BE. ENOUGH.

23) Allow me to quote from “A Patriot’s History of the United States” by Schweikart and Michael Allen: [1960’s radical] Jerry Rubin explainedSatisfy our demands & we go twelve more… All we want from these meetings are demands that are never ‘reasonable’. When the demands reached the point that no rational university administrator [OR, I WOULD ADD TODAY, CITY OR BUSINESS LEADER] or public official could possibly comply with them,’ Rubin noted, “Then we scream, righteously angry . . . . Goals are irrelevant. The tactics, the actions are critical.”

24) Of course, Rubin wasn’t entirely honest. No leftists are. He meant that short-term goals were irrelevant, but the destabilization of society as a long-term objective was entirely relevant.

25) The last people to figure this out are liberals. That’s why in communist society they are the first ones shot and imprisoned. They are sheep, baffled by the fact that the “movement” has turned on them. Conservatives & advocates of freedom fought, ran, or hid for far longer.

26) In conclusion, the NFL, the NBA, the City of Seattle, the City of New York, the City of Chicago et al. are all on borrowed time. There will be “twelve more demands.”

[End]

That is all.

America is Still Struggling With the Failure of Reconstruction

Given the events that have transpired since its airing a few weeks ago, I’m sure if the producers of the mini-series “Grant” had it to do all over again, they’d have made it 8 hours and 4 episodes in length instead of its 6 hours/3 episodes format. The first two episodes did a fine job of detailing Grant’s up-bringing and early years, his struggles through many failures in life, his rise through the ranks of Union generals, and the start of his successful prosecution of the final campaign of the War through Virginia.

But the final 2-hour episode attempted to cover far too much ground: The final, climactic months of the War; Lee’s surrender at Appomattox; the assassination of Lincoln; Grant’s commission to oversee the failed Reconstruction process; Grant’s two-term presidency and his final days finishing his memoirs while suffering with fatal cancer of the throat. It was far, far too much crucially important ground to try to cover in just two hours, especially with at least nine 5-minute-long commercial breaks sprinkled into the mix.

The last two weeks of demonstrations in the wake of the murder of George Floyd; the demonstrations, riots, looting and burning of a dozen major U.S. cities reminiscent of Sherman’s march through Atlanta to the sea; and the burgeoning national debate that is now taking place over policing and race relations cries out for detailed re-examination not of the Civil War or Grant’s presidency, but of that period of Reconstruction which, had it been properly executed by people of good intent, could have unified the nation and put in place conditions that might have avoided much of the racial strife that followed and continues to this day.

If you search your memories you will realize that no one – not even Ken Burns in his great “The Civil War” documentary – has produced a truly thorough recounting of that terrible time in our nation, and which lays true accountability for the horrors that took place. “Grant” gave it very short shrift, as the producers did everything they could to avoid laying any blame a the feet of the title subject and his often ham-handed management of the process.

The one of hundreds of atrocities the series does go into some detail about is the New Orleans Massacre of July 30, 1866, an event in which a band of former Confederate soldiers slaughtered dozens of freed slaves who were organizing themselves to participate in the upcoming elections. That all happened under the not-so-watchful eye of General William Sherman and a garrison of the Union Army before the Reconstruction Act of 1867 had been passed by congress. “Grant” also makes vague reference to dozens of similar incidents that took place all over the South in the subsequent years, but goes into little detail about them.

It also briefly mentions the rise of the Ku Klux Klan during that period of time, but goes into no detail about the fact that the Klan was actually created by the Democratic Party – which dominated the Southern states – after the 1866 elections, in which the Northern States overwhelmingly awarded control of congress to the Republican Party of Lincoln and Grant. Just as the Democrat Party created Antifa immediately following the 2016 elections, in which the northern states of PA, MI and WI turned Red and awarded the presidency and both houses of congress to the Republicans. There is a pattern to all of this.

Here we stumble right upon the very real reason why Hollywood has been so reluctant to fully explore the period of Reconstruction in documentary format: It is impossible to honestly do so without making the crystal clear, direct connection between the Klan and the Democrat Party. Indeed, it was the rise of the Klan as the military wing of the Democrat Party that rendered Grant’s assignment of executing on the Reconstruction laws an impossible mission. It was too deeply embedded in the Southern culture to be rooted out. The series makes passing mention of the fact that supposed pillars of these communities – doctors, lawyers, farmers and civic leaders – were all engaged with the Klan.

Sadly, that remained the reality in many cities and towns all over the South for well over a century. Indeed, as recently as just 2010 – a bare decade ago – a former member of the Klan – Democrat Robert Byrd of West Virginia – held a prominent position of leadership in the United States Senate. Other former Klan members with names like Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, William Fulbright, and Ernest Hollings held seats in the Senate in modern times, long after the passage of the Civil Rights bills in the mid-1960s.

Even sadder, the existence today of Antifa as the military wing of the Democrat Party will just as readily ensure that no real reconciliation will come from the debate currently raging in Washington and across our national news media. The simple reality is that those on the radical left who have basically seized control of that Party actively oppose reconciliation and seek violent revolution instead.

Congress may pass a few bills and pat itself on the back for doing it, but the real battles are taking place right now in the radical city council of Minneapolis, which is about to disband its police department, and on Capitol Hill in Seattle, where Antifa has forcibly seized control of an 8 square block area, with armed guards preventing the police from entering the area.

Just as we will never receive an honest accounting of the role of the Ku Klux Klan’s destruction of Reconstruction, we will not receive an honest accounting of Antifa from our national news media, which is working to destroy our nation from within today. Because an honest accounting of either requires the examination of the fact that both destructive groups were the creation of the national Democrat Party, and no one in Hollywood or the Democrat-controlled news media can afford to go there.

That is all.
