About Those 70 Obama Holdovers Cut From the NSC…

Today’s Campaign Update (Because the Campaign Never Ends)

Tired of all this WINNING yet? – Both the NASDAQ and S&P 500 set new record highs on Monday, as the Trump economy just keeps WINNING for Americans and their 401(k)’s. The Dow was also up, but not quite at record levels reached a few weeks ago, before  the Coronavirus scare. And it’s only going to get better, as early trading futures indicate all indexes will open at higher levels today.

About those “70 Obama holdovers” cut from the NSC… – Twitter and other social media outlets went nuts on Monday over a slightly misleading report issued by the Washington Examiner. The report itself, filed by Paul Bedard, is accurate, but requires some close reading to understand what is really being communicated.

Unfortunately, as is so often the case, it was the headline that misled most readers and caused the story to go viral on social media, which of course was the goal of the misleading headline. That headline reads as follows:

Bigger than Vindman: Trump scrubs 70 Obama holdovers from NSC

BOOM, right? Well, sort of. Coming as the report did on a Monday morning, barely 48 hours after the removal of everyone named Vindman from the NSC staff, the headline is obviously designed to create the impression that dozens of disloyal Obama holdovers on the NSC staff were removed over the weekend. And that was how the story was portrayed by repeaters throughout social media and conservative media like Breitbart.

The trouble is, that is not what happened.

The misleading part of the story itself comes not in what the author said, but in what he left out of the text. While it is apparently accurate that 70 NSC employees, most of whom were indeed holdovers from the Obama era, have been removed from the NSC staff, nowhere in Bedard’s story does he mention that this transition has been a slow and steady process that has taken place since current National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien took over that job last fall.

There was no replay of Nixon’s “Saturday Night Massacre” at the NSC over the weekend; indeed, I can find no evidence that a single member of the NSC staff was fired or reassigned on Saturday or Sunday. However, it is apparently true that O’Brien, working on orders from President Trump, has succeeded in ridding the White House of 70 NSC deep state functionaries since he came into office several months ago. It is also true that O’Brien has publicly stated that this process of weeding out the bad guys is still ongoing and could end up with the removal of up to half of the bloated NSC staff of 200 that President Trump inherited from Barack Obama His Own Self.

Clear?

There is still much reason to celebrate here, as O’Brien finally does the job that General Mike Flynn, Trump’s original appointment to be the National Security Advisor, would have done had he not been entrapped and framed by Obama FBI holdovers Peter Strzok and Joe Pientka. Better late than never.

And the good news keeps coming. On Monday, former U.S. Attorney Joe DiGenova told an interviewer that he has been told by “a very senior U.S. government policy official” that the “Anonymous” author who wrote the infamous 2018 New York Times column claiming that he and “like-minded” colleagues working in the Trump Administration were actively undermining the President’s agenda has been identified and will be fired this week.

In a report this morning on Fox’s “Mornings With Maria,” author Lee Smith said that two fairly senior officials, Secretary of Defense for Policy John Rood and Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook, have also been identified as disloyal staff working to undermine administration policy, and both would likely be removed this week. Rood served in several posts during the George W. Bush administration, including a stint as an analyst at the CIA. Hook is also a former Bushie who served in the State Department in the waning days of that administration.

Whether either man is the “Anonymous” author is unclear at this time.

The good news here is this: Three full years into his Administration, President Trump finally has a National Security Advisor who is fully on his team and helping him to achieve his goals. What we are seeing O’Brien accomplish today is one of the main reasons why the Obama people were so panicked about having a Trump loyalist in Mike Flynn as the NSA – because, as we have seen, Obama had packed the NSC staff with deep state operatives who served as the nexus of all the serial leaking that so damaged this presidency in its early years.

You may have noticed that the frequency of leaking from the White House has dramatically diminished since O’Brien took the job.

And O’Brien isn’t done yet.

WINNING.

That is all.

The Leak Factory at the NSC is Finally Being Addressed

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Better late than never; but dang, this is really late. – The Washington Times reported on Wednesday that National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien is finally getting around to radically reducing the staff of the illegal leak factory and nest of subversion that is the National Security Council. This is a job that should have been done during the first 100 days of the Trump Administration, but didn’t because President Trump’s first pick for the job, General H.R. McMaster, was himself a deep state leaker, and his second choice, John Bolton, was a neocon whose only interest was in finding ways to keep us in interminable wars in the Middle East and trying to provoke new ones.

With Mr. O’Brien, who just came into the job this past September, the President appears to have finally found a man who understands the internal threat the NSC staff have represented to this Administration and is focused on ending that threat. The way to end it is to rid the agency of its myriad subversive staff, and the best way to do that is with a massive, targeted down-sizing. From the Washington Times piece:

The White House National Security Council staff is being downsized sharply in a bid to improve efficiency within the policy coordinating body by consolidating positions and cutting staff.

A second, unspoken thrust of the overhaul is a hoped-for end to what many critics see as a string of politically damaging, unauthorized disclosures of sensitive information. Leaks of President Trump’s conversations with foreign leaders and other damaging disclosures likely originated with anti-Trump officials in the White House who stayed over from the Obama administration, according to several current and former White House officials.

White House National Security Adviser Robert C. O’Brien is leading the NSC reform effort. He revealed in a recent interview with The Washington Times that 40 to 45 NSC staff officials were sent back in recent months to the agencies where they originally worked, with more likely to be moved out.

Not surprisingly, the NSC staff became absurdly bloated during the Obama Adminstration – which bloated every agency of the federal government – as the secretive, radical control freaks on the Obama senior staff attempted to centralize functions better done within the State or Defense Departments (or, frankly, not done at all) within the White House:

Under President Obama, the NSC staff mushroomed to as many as 450 people. Mr. O’Brien plans to cut the staff to fewer than 120 policy officials by early next year.

The downsizing will be carried out by consolidating positions and returning officials to agencies and departments such as the CIA, the State and Defense departments and the military.

Mr. O’Brien noted that the NSC had a policymaking staff of 12 in 1962 when President Kennedy faced down the Soviet Union during the Cuban missile crisis. During the 2000s and the George W. Bush administration, the number of NSC staff members increased sharply to support the three-front conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on terrorism.

However, it was during the Obama administration that the NSC was transformed into a major policymaking agency seeking to duplicate the functions of the State and Defense departments within the White House.

“The NSC staff became bloated during the prior administration,” Mr. O’Brien said. “The NSC is a coordinating body. I am trying to get us back to a lean and efficient staff that can get the job done, can coordinate with our interagency partners, and make sure the president receives the best advice he needs to make the decisions necessary to keep the American people safe.”

In the Obama administration, NSC officials wielded enormous power. NSC staff members were known to telephone commanders in Afghanistan and other locations in the Middle East with orders — a violation of the military’s strict chain of command, said military officials familiar with the calls.

The problems with disloyalty and leaking on the NSC staff have been myriad since the day President Trump assumed office. McMaster was an Obama loyalist to begin with, and refused to do any house-cleaning during his two years in the job, and Bolton was simply disinterested in getting the crucial house-cleaning done.

The poster child for the NSC’s disloyalty to the current Administration and propensity for leaking classified information is, of course, Alexander Vindman, who became a key witness for the Democrat impeachment clown show. Although O’Brien said in November that Vindman would be rotated back to his previous job at the Department of Defense, he remains on the NSC staff today. Hopefully, he will be one of the early casualties of this downsizing.

The subversive nature of many on the staff at the NSC has been an intolerable situation since Day 1 of the Trump Administration. It is long past time someone began to address it. Kudos to Mr. O’Brien for being the guy to finally get it done.

That is all.

Will John Bolton Fix the Leaky Valve at the NSC?

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Man, another slow news day – having a hard time finding anything to write about.  Lessee here…

Down goes McMaster!  Down goes McMaster!  Down goes McMaster! – General H.R. McMaster, who has run the leaky valve we call the National Security Council (NSC) for the past 13 months, was finally, at long last given his walking papers on Thursday.  The move comes after the latest in a long series of major, embarrassing leaks that most likely came from either the General or his staff earlier this week.

That leak came when the substance of the President’s call with Vladimir Putin – including Trump’s congratulation on his fake election win, a matter of simple courtesy that was also extended by Barack Obama in 2012 – was leaked to the press, along with briefing notes compiled by the NSC advising Mr. Trump not to offer such congratulations.  The leak, as so many emanating from the NSC before it had been, was designed to embarrass President Trump, and it appears the POTUS had finally had enough.

The White House put out a statement late Wednesday that characterized this leak as “likely illegal” and promised to fire the person or persons responsible for it.  About 17 hours later, H.R. McMaster was starting the process of hunting for another job.  Hey, don’t feel sorry for him – he will no doubt have his pick of gigs at CNN, MSNBC, the Washington Post and the New York Times, fake media outlets that love to reward the hands that feed them.

In a tweet issued to announce the firing, President Trump thanked the 3-star General and said he would “always remain my friend.”  So, obviously, the President wants to create as little controversy as possible around the McMaster ouster.  It will be interesting to see if the White House is ever able to identify anyone else responsible for the leak of the Putin conversation, and if bringing in a new National Security Advisor has the effect of tamping down the leaks going forward.  Because with a “security council” like this, well, who needs it?

To replace McMaster, Trump named Bush-era UN Ambassador and noted neo-con John Bolton, so he’s replacing a liberal globalist Susan Rice fan with a very conservative war hawk who tends to favor U.S. intervention all over the world.  Appearing on Fox News shortly after his hiring had been announced, Bolton joked that, to get the job, “I promised not to start any wars.”  I’m not really sure that’s funny.

Whatever, Bolton will be a huge upgrade if he just doesn’t engage in the habit of leaking classified information to the nearest fake reporter.

Hey, guess which students are very predictably on the cover of the new issue of Time Magazine? – If you said “Parkland students,” you are partially right.  The fully correct answer, of course, is “a handful of Parkland students who are anti-2nd amendment and being manipulated by a bunch of leftwing anti-gun groups,” you are fully correct.

Because, of course, only the brainwashed children who want to take your rights away fit the anti-gun narrative the fake news media and Democrat Party have pushed for the last 50 years.  So tiresome.

Hey, remember those DACA “kids” (average age: 26)? Remember how I told you way back in December that the Democrat Party would never, never, never, ever agree to any sort of deal on their situation because they want to keep that issue alive through election day in November?  Yeah, we had another example of the truth of that overnight.

In the wee hours of the morning, the U.S. Senate – the most useless deliberative body on earth – approved yet another continuing resolution to fund the government, this time through the end of the fiscal year on September 30.  It is an utter, complete, total disgrace of a bill, a budget-busting monstrosity that not only continues funding for every leftwing priority but increases the money for most of them, a total capitulation by the Republicans in which pretty much the only thing that isn’t funded in any real way is increased border security and a border wall.  Thank you, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell.

Wait.  The other thing this “compromise” (read: Republican capitulation) bill doesn’t have in it is any sort of “fix” for those poor, poor “Dreamers”.  Golly, nobody could have seen that coming.

The two happiest people in the nation’s capital this morning are San Fran Nan and Chuck Schumer, who are no doubt hung over from all those toasts they were drinking during the night to Ryan, McConnell and the rest of the shameful establishment wing of the GOP.

If you are searching for the reason why Republicans hate Republicans, this bill is pretty much your Holy Grail.

Just another day in establishment Republicans selling out America.

That is all.
