Trump Cancels California Rail Boondoggle Funding

Today’s Campaign Update, Part III

In a move that is certain to enrage the perpetually-enraged political left and our fake news media, the Trump Administration today moved to rescind a portion of the $3.5 billion in federal funds previously dedicated to California’s disastrous high-speed rail boondoggle.  In a letter to Brian Kelly, Director of the California High-Speed Rail Authority, Federal Railroad Administration Director Ronald Batory had this to say:

“This letter provides notice to the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) intends to terminate Cooperative Agreement No. FR­ HSR-0118-12-01-01 (Agreement) effective March 5, 2019. Following termination, FRA also intends to promptly de-obligate the full $928,620,000 obligated under the Agreement.

FRA has determined that CHSRA has materially failed to comply with the terms of the Agreement and has failed to make reasonable progress on the Project (as defined in the Agreement), significantly endangering substantial performance . Considering this determination, FRA intends to exercise its right to terminate the Agreement, consistent with Section 23 of the Agreement.”

In a February 19 tweet, President Trump made it clear, when California Governor Gavin Newsom canceled 2/3rds of the planned project, that he intends to rescind the entire $3.5 billion:

California has been forced to cancel the massive bullet train project after having spent and wasted many billions of dollars. They owe the Federal Government three and a half billion dollars. We want that money back now. Whole project is a “green” disaster!

Newsom responded to the threat in typical haughty fashion with a tweet of his own:

Fake news. We’re building high-speed rail, connecting the Central Valley and beyond. This is CA’s money, allocated by Congress for this project. We’re not giving it back. The train is leaving the station — better get on board! (Also, desperately searching for some wall $$??) https://t.co/9hxEfEX8Vm

Well, the ball is now in the Governor’s court. We can be sure the wailing will be loud, dishonest and totally coordinated with our fake news media. Because that’s how Democrats operate in America today.

Jussie Smollett and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez – Keeping Hoax Alive

Hey, it worked for that other racist over in Virginia. – Virginia’s baby-killing racist governor Ralph Northam appears to have shown the way for leftwing nitwits caught doing bad things all over the nation, and Jussie Smollett’s been paying attention.

Basically, Gov. Blackface’s strategy has been to lie, deny and go about his business, a strategy copied by his Lt. Governor and Attorney General, all of whom have survived the media firestorm, such as it was, surrounding their bad acts, and continue to govern the once-great Commonwealth. Actors, even bad ones, are typically pretty good at observing and learning, and that’s what Smollett has obviously done.

After being arrested and arraigned and seeing Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson deliver one of the most epic press conferences in the city’s history at his expense Thursday morning, Smollett was right back on the set of his TV show, “Empire”, a few hours later, filming new scenes and lying and denying his role in blatant hoax he has perpetrated on our country.

“I wanted to say I’m sorry and, you know me, I would never do this to any of you, you are my family,” he reportedly told the cast and crew, “I swear to God, I did not do this.” Hooboy. So, the strategy adopted by Gov. Blackface is now being mainstreamed, and the Chicago PD, with its long, sordid history of corruption, had better hope its officers dotted every “i” and crossed every “t” in the conduct of their investigation.

Because here’s the deal on this, folks: The fake news media and Democrat Party hate the fact that they have been forced to report negative things about a guy they spent 2 solid weeks building up into some sort of modern-day civil rights hero. Jussie’s story fit their preferred narrative about President Trump and his supporters, and now they’ve been forced off that narrative, something they can’t happily abide.

If they find the slightest excuse to hang their hat on here in terms of some irregularity about how the Chicago PD went about its business, they will latch onto it and pound it into the public’s consciousness until Smollet has not only been set free but gotten the raise that apparently motivated him to plan and commit the hoax to begin with.

As impressive as Superintendent Johnson was in his press conference yesterday, history tells us that the chances the Chicago PD conducted itself strictly by the book in this case seem disturbingly slim. This story, and the fake news media’s treatment of it, isn’t over yet. Indeed, unlike the Northam case – which they’ve all dropped like a hot potato because there ain’t no way to get that atrocity back on the preferred narrative path – the media engagement on the Smollett case may be just beginning.

Green New Deal Update! – Professor at New York University – where Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez allegedly received a college “education” – Ian Bremmer issued a tweet that caught my highly-trained eye yesterday:

Bremmer is probably a huge fan of the socialist fantasy that the Green New Deal and its plan to replace the miracle of air travel with the popular 19th century mode of transportation represents, and he no doubt thinks those numbers are somehow impressive. But they would only be impressive to someone who has no knowledge of the actual history of high-speed rail and how ridiculously expensive it is to build and operate.

We’ve already seen the example of California having to cancel most of Jerry Brown’s great high-speed rail boondoggle as the original $29 billion cost estimate climbed well north of $100 billion with no end in sight. Yet, despite that clear object lesson, AOC and her fellow socialist Democrats would have us believe that we can just slap down hundreds of thousands of miles of high speed rail all over our country and make those pesky airplanes obsolete as a result, and do it all in a span of a mere decade.

Look again at Bremmer’s numbers: If you do the math and add them up (something AOC is likely incapable of doing) you’ll see that they total to a little over 27,000 miles. Globally. Worldwide.

Oh.

Again, that number might seem impressive to someone who, like AOC, has no understanding of the history of high speed rail. It becomes less impressive when one understands that the first such rail line was completed and put into operation in …wait for it…1964, just after Lyndon Johnson became president.

That’s right: In 55 years, the entire world has laid just 27,000 miles of high speed rail. For those who are math-challenged, that comes out to right at a paltry 500 miles per year, and no, I did not leave out a zero.

Oh.

But it gets even less impressive than that. The first successful test of a “high speed” electric rail system took place in … are you sitting down? … 1903, when an electric rail car designed by Siemens & Halske crossed a speed of over 200 kmph. That’s right: The “high-speed” rail technology has been around for 116 years, and in all that time, across the entirety of Planet Earth, just 27,000 miles of such rail has been successfully completed, and 19,000 of those miles were built by the one of the most brutal and heinous communist regimes in world history.

Oh.

As unimpressive as all that history is, even less impressive is just how “fast” these high-speed rail trains are able to run. The fastest in the world, the “maglev train service began operating in 2004 with trains reaching a top speed of 431 km/h (268 mph), and remains the fastest high-speed service in the world.”

Oh.

That’s the fastest, mind you. The standard for “high-speed” rail is that “new lines in excess of 250 kilometres per hour (160 mph) and existing lines in excess of 200 kilometres per hour (120 mph) are widely considered to be high-speed.”

Oh.

Meanwhile, your standard airliner operates at speeds of 400-500 mph, double and triple the average “high-speed” rail system. Plus, unless you’re on Southwest or just had bad luck, most flights go straight from departure to your final destination with no stops, or no more than one. If you read the fine print of the “Green New Deal” you’ll see that the socialists’ plan is for the transportation system to be “accessible to all”, meaning those “high speed” trains are going to be stopping in every city, town, village and convenience store along the way.

Oh.

So, if AOC and her compatriots have their way, all those quick weekend jaunts to Vegas some of you have been taking will become week-long, tiresome journeys. All you Texas Aggie fans who love to fly out on Fridays to take in your football team’s Saturday games with South Carolina and Alabama, forget it. The nation’s tourism business will die a very quick and ugly death. No more Disney World. No more Broadway. No more fun, no more joy, because the first job of socialism is to do away with fun and joy, after all. Then it all goes downhill from there.

Oh.

Gavin Newsom Blows Green Wet Dreams to Smithereens

This afternoon, California Governor Gavin Newsom kicked Jerry Brown’s great high-speed rail boondoggle to the sidelines, announcing a major scaling-back of the $100 billion Bankruptcy Express:

“Let’s level about the high-speed rail,” Newsom said. “Let’s be real, the current project as planned would cost too much and, respectfully, take too long. Right now, there simply isn’t a path to get from Sacramento to San Diego, let alone from San Francisco to L.A. I wish there were.”

Oh.

But wait – what about this “Green New Deal”, and its pipedream promise to “build out high-speed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary”? If we can’t build a single such line from “Sacramento to San Diego, let alone from San Francisco to L.A.”, what then of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s grand plans to connect apparently every significant city, town, village and dot-on-the-map with such lines in 10 short years?

The answer is obvious to anyone whose cranial synapses are firing, which apparently excludes all elected Democrats and everyone working at a major fake news media outlet like CNN.

It is important to remember that, about a decade ago, the initial estimated cost for Jerry Brown’s Boondoggle came in at $29 billion. As the years dragged on the estimates of course rose – as happens with any big-government socialist land grab. As Newsom pulls the plug on about 2/3rds of the thing, the current cost estimates are now in the $100 billion range and rising every day.

So when you see some talking head “expert” tossing out a Green New Deal cost of $40 trillion in today’s dollars, just remember that a decade from now that number will almost certainly have climbed well to the north of $120 trillion or so.

Gov. Newsom is a far, far leftist himself, and certainly didn’t mean to do it, but his announcement today well and truly put the leftist, fake green lie to any rational thoughts that AOC’s “Green New Deal” might ever be doable.

To quote Shakespeare, “It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Another Sunday, Another Trump Tweetstorm

Tired of all this Winning yet?  – Hey, Californians, you’re in luck!  The feds are going to audit Governor Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown’s high speed rail project, and, if the audit is conducted honestly, will likely conclude that it is time to cut off funding for the single biggest boondoggle in American history.

Yes, dear readers, it isn’t bad enough that California’s utterly corrupt Democrat political class has already wasted billions of Californians’ dollars on this high-speed rail pipe dream, they’ve also already wasted $3.5 billion federal dollars, and are planning on wasting tens of billions more before the atrocity is completed, if indeed it ever is.  Thus far, not an inch of rail has been laid, despite the fact that the “project” has already been technically in progress for a decade, and the only segment for which there is even a firm plan is a 119-mile piece of line that would connect Fresno with Bakersfield.

So, they’ve got a plan to span the Central Valley, which covers a whopping 4.7% of the state’s population, but as of today, there is not even an existing plan to connect either end of that segment to Los Angeles or San Francisco, which is the ultimate outcome of the Moonbeam PipeDream.  Had the Pantsuit Princess won the 2016 election, nobody in Washington would have given a tinker’s damn about any of this, but Donald Trump won that election, and his administration wants to identify the sinkhole into which that $3.5 billion of federal dollars disappeared before the national government agrees to waste any more money on this idiotic endeavor.

So the Transportation Department’s Inspector General’s office announced on Thursday that it plans to try to figure it all out, and hold some people accountable for the first time in the Moonbeam PipeDream’s 10-year history.  If Californian’s are lucky, the IG will uncover good reasons to shut the thing down, and save them from having to fork over any more of their tax dollars for this bit of nitwittery, the estimated completion cost of which has risen from $33 billion to $77 billion in just the last several years.

“Mission Accomplished”, President Trump! – As I write this piece on Sunday morning, President Trump just issued the following hilarious tweet:

He is, of course, correct on every count where the fake news media is concerned.  And if you doubt he used that term intentionally, knowing it would create the exact media action it created, then you just haven’t been paying attention.

Never stop tweeting, Mr. President.  Please, never, never, never, ever stop.

A bit earlier on Sunday morning, Mr. Trump tossed these two tweets into the mix:

These are actually really good questions, and they are questions that an honest news media establishment would be demanding that Attorney General Jeff Sessions and everyone else at the Justice Department answer.  But, of course, we have a fake news media, one that has been more than happy to allow these questions to linger unasked for over a year and a half now.

The one new revelation mentioned by the President this morning is the allegation in Comey’s book that he felt the need to assume full control of the ultimate disposition of his sham “investigation” into the Pantsuit Princess’s illegal emailing actions due to some “revelation” about then- Attorney General Loretta Lynch about which the American public still has no knowledge.

What, Lynch’s meeting with the suspect’s husband, Bill Clinton, on the tarmac at the Phoenix airport less than a week before the Coughing Crook was to be fake-interviewed by the FBI wasn’t bad enough?  Her insistence that Comey refer to the fake investigation as a “matter” and downplay it all to the fake media wasn’t the extent of her malfeasance?  There’s even more?

Now, Comey could just be lying about all of this – he’s done so much lying in the public domain already that literally nothing he says can be taken at face value by any sentient being at this point.  And if there is something there, it all would be within the scope of the investigation by IG Michael Horowitz into the DOJ/FBI corruption during the 2016 elections, so it is possible we will find out what Comey is talking about when that report is finally, at long last, issued in May.

There is far, far too much relevant information about all of this that is still being withheld from the American public, and that is a direct result of the reality that our country no longer possesses a real, independent media establishment.  What Edmund Burke and other founders liked to refer to as the Fourth Estate is dead, so utterly corrupt and agenda-driven that it is completely useless to the public as a source of information and a check on real government abuse.

This reality, far more than any other single factor, is a pressing and direct threat to our nation’s ultimate survival as a free country.  Somehow, we must find a means of correcting it.

Just another day in the fake news media actively facilitating corruption America.
