Mike Lee and Rand Paul Should be Ashamed of Themselves

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Tired of all this WINNING yet? – Gosh, it’s been like four trading days since we were able to celebrate the setting of new record highs on the various stock market indexes. Oh, hey, that’s because it has been all of four trading days since that happened. But on Wednesday that happened yet again, with both the NASDAQ and S&P 500 closing at record high levels. The Dow closed slightly below its all-time record due only to weakness at Boeing after one of its planes flown by Ukrainian Airlines was shot down shortly after taking off from Tehran. The Dow’s futures, however, are pointing to a record-high opening later this morning.

WINNING, bigly.

Speaking of WINNING, when did Rand Paul and Mike Lee, Republican senators from Kentucky and Utah respectively, become such LOSERS? This question arose late Tuesday after these two emerged from a congressional briefing conducted by the Trump Administration’s military and national security team on the situation with Iran, whining about what they characterized as the “amateurish” nature of the briefing.

Watch as Senator Lee goes absurdly ballistic upon leaving the breifing:

This seems to be Lee’s main complaint: “They [the briefers] were asked repeatedly, what, if anything, would trigger the need for the Administration to come back to congress for a declaration of war or the authorization of the use of military force? At one point I think one of the briefers said something along the lines of ‘I’m sure we could think of something.’ But they struggled to identify anything….They were asked a number of hypotheticals about situations in which they might have to appropriately have to come to ask for authorization from congress. Not once did they say yes.”

Oh, ok. Senator James Lankford (R-OK) and several other Republicans present for the same briefing completely debunked Lee’s statement, but let’s deal with that in more detail in a bit.

Before we do that, listen to Sen. Paul’s complaint as aired with the despicable Wolf Blitzer at CNN:

“No specific information given to us of a specific attack, uh, generalities, stuff you read in a newspaper was given to us. I didn’t learn anything in the hearing that I hadn’t seen in a newspaper already, and none of it was overwhelming that ‘x’ was going to happen. I’m not saying that, uh – the world being rid of Soleimani is probably a good thing. But in the end, how we go about it and the ramifications of it are very important. I think it’s made it much more difficult to have engagement or any kind of diplomacy with Iran. I doubt they’ll be coming to the negotiating table anytime soon.”

This is what happens when you get libertarian ideologues pretending to be Republicans. It is frankly stunning that someone as normally savvy as Rand Paul could witness the cowardly standing down by the Iranian Mullahs that has taken place since the completely justified killing of one of the worlds most deadly Islamic terrorist leaders and be so naive as to think it makes them LESS likely to want to negotiate. He is his father’s son at the end of the day.

It is also truly despicable for Paul and Lee to complain about the Administration briefers dealing in generalities and refusing to speculate about what Lee refers to as “hypotheticals.” Oh, golly, why might that be their behavior in a room filled with seditious Democrats?

Obviously, any classified details the Administration officials might have revealed during this briefing would have ended up being aired by Blitzer or someone else at CNN before the briefing had ended. Both Senators Paul and Lee know this reality full well.

And Lee also well knows that any concession by anyone in the Administration about any single hypothetical tossed at them might require President Trump to seek congressional approval would immediately become just another Democrat/media narrative that would attempt to tie the Administration’s hands against taking any further unilateral action whatsoever as it relates to Iran.

This was despicable, shameful behavior by two ostensible Republican senators who know better.

Watch as James Lankford – who no one can claim to be some flunky for President Trump – completely debunks Lee’s claims starting at the 1:22 mark:

“Yeah, it has been very interesting. I’ve seen some of my colleagues come out and make comments like that. In fact, one of my colleagues stepped out and said the whole group was doing a briefing with us and when the questions got hard that they left and they ran off. That was absolutely, positively false. That did not occur. They weren’t running away. We started at 2:30 and we finished at 4:00 because they had meetings in the White House.”

Enough. Have a good day.

That is all.

Cocaine Mitch Has Outflanked San Fran Nan

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Never, never, ever underestimate the ability of Mitch McConnell to work the process in the Senate. – Mitch McConnell told a very disappointed group of corrupt reporters on Tuesday that he now has the 51 Republican votes he needs to move forward with the very same Senate rules for a Senate trial on Nancy Pelosi’s ridiculous articles of impeachment that were used to govern the Senate trail of Bill Clinton.

As reported by U.S. News and World Report:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he has the votes to start President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial as soon as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi releases the documents, winning support from GOP senators to postpone a decision on calling witnesses.

The announcement Tuesday was significant, enabling McConnell to bypass for now Democratic demands for new testimony as he launches the third impeachment trial in the nation’s history. It could begin this week if Pelosi sends the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

What this means is that no more than two of the three RINO Usual Suspect senators – Mitt Romney, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski – who have been targeted by the corrupt media for pressure campaigns designed to bully them into breaking party ranks have taken the bait.

As we cautioned you here at the Campaign Update the day after Christmas, you have to take media reports of senators going wobbly on this impeachment matter with a grain of salt. That was the day when the corrupt media went wild with a report that Murkowski had told an Anchorage, Alaska reporter that she was “disturbed” when she heard McConnell state that he would be working “hand in glove” with counsel for the President to determine how the Senate trial would be managed.

The press went crazy again last week, when Sen. Collins made a similar statement of “concern” about the process and indicated she was “open” to calling additional witnesses in the Senate. Well, at least one of those two ladies, and maybe both of them, have now indicated to the Senate Majority Leader that their concerns do not rise to the level of siding with a bunch of seditious Democrats who are attempting to execute a coup d’etat on U.S. soil.

You can say what you want to about these two ladies being “squishy” – which they both undeniably are on several specific issues – but it is a drastic error and completely unfair to them to equate their squishiness to being disloyal to the country, as the Democrats have become. One would think that the performance by Collins in supporting the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court would have schooled everyone on this regard forever where she is concerned.

Process-wise, what McConnell’s reaching this 51-vote threshold means is that, whenever San Fran Nan decides to finally release her sham articles of impeachment to the Senate, this is what will happen:

  • Chief Justice John Roberts will convene the Senate trial, with all 100 senators – including the four Democrats who are still presidential candidates – required to be in attendance for 6 days every week until the trial concludes;
  • The House Managers – a set of both Democrat and Republican House members – will present the case for impeachment, which will consume several days;
  • The lawyers for President Trump will then present his case, which will also likely consume several days;
  • Then and only then will the Senate hold a procedural vote to determine whether or not it will call additional witnesses;
  • More than likely, unless there is some major development related to Ukraine between now and then, the Senate will vote to dismiss the case at that time. That assumes that McConnell, the master of Senate process, can hold his 51 votes together.

All in all, assuming McConnell holds his majority together, the trial in the Senate will consume about two weeks.

Pelosi will now come under great pressure from the Democrat presidential candidates to go ahead and release the articles so that this can all play out prior to the Iowa caucuses that will take place on February 3. However, she wants to keep them in-hand until the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals rules on a pending case that would, if  it goes the Democrats’ way, give them access to the Mueller Witch Hunt grand jury material and potentially allow the House Democrats to enforce their sham subpoenas. But oral arguments were just heard in that case last Friday, and it could be weeks before any decision is rendered.

So, bottom line: Mitch McConnell has completely out-maneuvered Pelosi on this. She is now in a corner, clinging to a tactic that has failed to move public opinion against the President, and utterly failed to move any GOP senators into the pro-removal column.

Somebody go make her a Bloody Mary. She’s going to need one this morning. Maybe two.

That is all.

Trump is Completely Exposing the Democrats and the Media

Today’s Campaign Update, Part III
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: The following piece is from contributor Gregg Updike. I hope you enjoy his thoughts on the situation with Iran, and how President Trump is exposing the seditious nature of the Democrat Party and its corrupt media toadies – I know I did.]

While it is great that President Trump has recently taken out a couple of head honchos in the Middle East, can anyone doubt that their #2s (in every sense of the word) won’t just take over and continue their fight?  Had Hitler been successfully assassinated in July 1944, Goering would have taken over, then Himmler…

Point being, just because America took out these leaders, it does not mean Iran and ISIS will stack their bats and quit the field.  This means we need to be even more vigilant against reprisals.  I am in no way saying that Trump is wrong in what he is doing, I’m just saying these “foreign entanglements”, and their consequences, are far from over.  I only hope and pray for our president’s safety, and that he soon removes all our assets (targets) including our embassies from that entire region; let the various factions pound each other into the sand.

Now that we are oil independent, turn the keys over to Israel and let them have at it; let them either win outright with our tacit support, or continue with the tit-for-tat fighting that has been going on there forever.  I don’t care which route Israel takes, and neither should most Americans.  It would be nice, however, if a greater number of Americans of Jewish descent would actually support Trump and his efforts to defeat Israel’s ancient enemies abroad and renounce and work to defeat Anti-Semitic Democratic Politicians here rather than voting lockstep Democrat for whatever reason.

Once we are out of the region, our doctrine should be: we will flatten any country that causes us harm – period, end of story, with no “nation building/rebuilding”.  Let Europe, without the US propping up NATO, fend for itself against the threats from the Middle East, Russia, and China.  And finally, we must get out of the UN and get the UN out of America.

Apart from the transformation of the courts, and the draining of the swamp via Barr and Durham, Trump’s greatest contribution to America will be the total exposure of the media and the Democratic Party as a cabal of anti-American seditionists.  Sooner or later there will be a Bastille Day of sorts, and the domestic enemies of America as founded will be dealt with.  They will be easy to find as they are doing a wonderful job of exposing themselves for all to see.

They are effectively targeting themselves for destruction by openly rooting for our enemies and against America/Trump. Yet these “journalists” and other “experts” are supposed to be among the best and brightest from American institutions of higher learning; how myopic they all are.  In the interim, Trump is driving them insane with their TDS and making them more and more irrelevant.

The MSM is, and has been, working hand in hand with America’s domestic enemies to diminish and destroy our constitution, amendment by amendment for decades.  What makes them think the 1st Amendment will survive to protect them if the “Fundamental Change” that the Obama types want to bring to America ever comes to fruition?

On the foreign side, the NY Times had a reporter named Walter Duranty espousing Stalin’s communist propaganda from Moscow pre WWII, CNN had an embed in Middle East during Gulf War 1 who refused to be debriefed by the Pentagon upon his return after the first war.  And before and during the second Iraq War, CNN had “exclusive” coverage from their Baghdad “correspondent” who was reporting to the world only exactly what Saddam Hussein and Baghdad Bob allowed him to say.

I also remember how many, if not most MSM TV anchors refused to wear US Flag lapel pins stating they didn’t want to be seen rooting for one side or the other – just the facts, uh, sure, right.  Presidents Wilson (D), and FDR (D) most certainly censored the press during their terms, so there is precedent on the regulation of “Free” (Political) Speech.

History has shown when there is a “Fundamental Change” i.e. revolution, or invasion of a country, or other takeover, the first people purged are the “intelligentsia” including professors of higher learning and the press…

I’m a capable and productive person who is very adaptable and has worked many blue collar jobs and I can survive in almost any political environment by what I bring to the table.  I don’t believe any of these singularly specialized propagandists, masquerading as “experts” or “journalists” are capable of doing anything but being keyboard warriors, and ignorant social justice and environmental agitators.

They will be the first ones eliminated if and when true socialism/fascism/communism comes to America. The constitution as we know it will be gone, and the country will be ruled by a dictator.  No dictator would ever tolerate any such fifth column activity; it will be brutally put down just as sure as the sun comes up every day.

I only hope the “useful idiots” that the left has used for their evil anti-American purpose will someday soon wise up and abandon their (ultimately petty) crusades for their own sake.  Of the 328 or so million people in the US, only about 8-10% are the agitators, the loudmouths, the troublemakers to varying degrees; still that can be as many as ten million people young or old enough to actually be active in all the protests/riots that are sure to come this November when Trump wins a second term in a landslide, and the House flips to the GOP.

I truly believe that the other 90+ percent of the country – if not the world – are fundamentally good people who would just love to be able to live their lives in peaceful coexistence without all this conflict and drama. It’s the 10 percenters that must be defeated and ultimately eliminated for peace to prevail.

The president has shown great acumen in his ability to be ahead of the curve and has been very successful in blunting and exposing the left’s agenda(s).  His second term, starting with the first sign of violence after the election, must be the direct, forceful and complete stopping of all the paid professional protesters/rioters.  Then he must go after all the domestic and foreign money people funding this Anti-American revolution/coup.

The presidential oath states the president’s first obligation is to protect and defend America and its’ Constitution from all foreign and domestic enemies.  All of the people and entities (including and especially the MSM/SM) who have been engaged in this three plus year coup, Logan Act Violations, aiding and abetting election interference (that was actually done by the Democrats), illegally spying on any American, or allowing/authorizing the same, and who promote the subsequent violence should be charged under the RICO Act.

Democrats Disgrace Themselves in Response to the Killing of Soleimani

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Poor Chuck Schumer has the sads that he was not informed in advance of the U.S. military drone strike that took out Iranian terrorist leader Qassem Soleimani. – Well, tough. Obviously, neither Schumer, nor Nancy Pelosi nor any other Democrat could be informed in advance for the very same that Soleimani himself wasn’t told: Because they cannot be trusted to support U.S. interests anywhere in the world.

It really has come to this. If an action is taken by President Donald Trump, Democrats automatically knee-jerk to the position that it is inherently bad and coordinate with their corrupt media toadies to try to undermine it. Barack Hussein Obama – to his credit – took out hundreds of terrorists with drone strikes during his 8 years in office. During all that time, neither Schumer nor San Fran Nan nor any other leading Democrat uttered a peep of protest about the unconstitutional War Powers Act or indeed, any criticism of their dear leader.

But here’s Pelosi’s reaction today to President Trump’s authorized strike on the leading planner of Islamic terror on the face of the earth:

“The full Congress must be immediately briefed on this serious situation and on the next steps under consideration by the Administration, including the significant escalation of the deployment of additional troops to the region,” Pelosi said.

Here’s New Mexico Senator Tom Udall:

Senator Tom Udall, the author of a bipartisan amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to prevent war with Iran without the consent of Congress, said in a statement that Mr. Trump “is bringing our nation to the brink of an illegal war with Iran without any congressional approval as required under the Constitution of the United States.”

“Such a reckless escalation of hostilities is likely a violation of Congress’ war making authority – as well as our basing agreement with Iraq – putting U.S. forces and citizens in danger and very possibly sinking us into another disastrous war in the Middle East that the American people are not asking for and do not support,” Udall said. “Congress must step in immediately to reclaim its Constitutional war powers.”

Where were they when Obama was ordering dozens of similar strikes on Iranian and ISIS and Al Qaeda targets from 2009 through 2016? Not a peep.

But it gets even better.

Watch Democrat Congressman Chris Murphy, who was briefly a candidate for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2019, do a complete 180 on the Trump response to Iran in a mere 48 hours. Here is what he tweeted after the Iran-led storming of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad:

Image

And here is what he said this morning, after the President took his decisive action:

Image

You just cannot make these raging hypocrites up.

For the record, no president – whether a Democrat or Republican – is required to seek congressional authorization for these limited military engagements. Nothing President Trump did this week violated any federal law or constitutional provision in any way, shape or form. These disloyal, seditious Democrats are angry this morning because they were not given an advance notice so that they could attempt to deny Trump a “win” by leaking the information to their toadies at the New York Times or CNN.

This is the clear reality our nation faces today: One of our major political parties no longer maintains any loyalty to our country’s clear interests and well-being.

So, of course no Democrat leader was given advance notice of the drone strike that took out one of the most vicious leaders of Islamic terrorism on earth. Because they could not be trusted. It really is that simple.

That is all.

Is Hillary Clinton Trying to Create Safe Extradition Harbor in Northern Ireland?

Today’s Campaign Update, Part III
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

News broke on Thursday morning that the Pantsuit Princess has accepted a post as the new Chancellor at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland:

The post is largely ceremonial, according to the BBC, but will require the Fainting Felon to spent quite a bit of her time in Northern Ireland, which is an interesting place for her to find periodic refuge. While the United States does have an extradition treaty in place with the United Kingdom, that treaty contains some very interesting language related to those who might be ruled exempt from being extradited back to their home country for trial.

Specifically, I refer you to the following language contained in Article 4 of that extradition treaty:

Article 4(3) requires that, notwithstanding the terms of
paragraph 2, extradition shall not be granted if the competent
authority of the Requested State determines that the request is
politically motivated. In the United States, the executive
branch is the competent authority for the purposes of the
Article. Under the 1985 supplementary treaty, the judicial
branch has the authority to consider whether an extradition
request is motivated by a desire to punish the person sought on
account of race, religion, nationality, or political opinions,
or if the person sought would be subject to unfair treatment in
UK courts or prisons after extradition. Like all other modern
extradition treaties, the new Treaty grants the executive
branch rather than the judiciary the authority to determine
whether a request is politically motivated.
Article 4(4) provides that the competent authority of the
Requested State may also refuse extradition for offenses under
military law that are not offenses under ordinary criminal law
(e.g., desertion). In the United States, the executive branch
is the competent authority for the purposes of the Article.

Now, everyone should be aware by now that any effort to prosecute the Coughing Crook or any other major Democrat figure for all their myriad crimes during the Obama years will be met with a coordinated Democrat/Media/deep state narrative that it is entirely politically motivated. We have in fact already been treated to a long-running preview of that tactic related to the clear shakedown operation run by Joe Biden and his ne’er-do-well son Hunter vis-a-vis the Ukraine.

Thus, the language contained in Article 4 relating to “politically motivated” prosecutions becomes quite concerning in this context.

This is all speculation, of course, but the activities of John Durham and William Barr of late have to be quite disconcerting to the Grasping Grifter and her hubby Bill. Accepting this position right in the midst of ongoing speculation that she has plans to jump into the Democrat presidential nominating contest at some point seems an especially odd decision. This post would have zero relevance to her chances of ultimately gaining the Party’s nomination, and indeed could end up being a hindrance if its duties were to interfere with her political ambitions.

So, either the Hacking Hag has decided to disband her life-long ambition to become president, or there is some other motivation involved in her acceptance of this position. With the Clintons, nothing is ever really simple, or what it seems to be on the surface.

That is all.

Rudy Giuliani Drops Another Verbal Bomb at Mar-a-Lago [Updated]

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

As he entered a New Year’s eve party at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort Tuesday evening, Rudy Giuliani stopped to talk to several reporters. During the course of his two-minute discussion with them, he laid out the high points of what he says was an organized plot by “the highest levels” of the Obama Administration to literally loot the Ukraine for millions during the Obama presidency.

Giuliani, a former U.S. attorney, has spent the better part of the last year investigating the activities of Joe and Hunter Biden, along with other Democrat luminaries, as they relate to the Ukraine on behalf of President Trump. Below is a clip of his interview followed by a transcript:

For those of you who still like to read stuff, here is the transcript of the Mayor’s remarks:

Reporter: You just got back from Ukraine. What did you do?

Giuliani: Well, a lot of things I learned but I can’t reveal yet. What I’ve learned is that the corruption in Ukraine is vast, it’s extensive, it highly involves the Democratic Party – not just in 2016, but for many years. And one of the reasons they’re doing this impeachment is when the full scope of what happened in the Ukraine comes out, there are going to be an awful lot of Americans who participated in the Ukrainian corruption.

In fact, we shouldn’t call it ‘Ukrainian corruption,’ we should call it ‘American/Ukrainian corruption.’ The Bidens took millions of dollars, laundered out of the Ukraine, and the only reason they’re getting away with it is because you in the press protect them, and the prosecutors are afraid you’re gonna criticize them. That’s a double standard that has to end.

Reporter: Well, tell us what you found out.

Giuliani: Well, I’m not gonna tell you what I found out until I have a proper forum to do it, but it’s devastating.

Reporter: What’s that forum? Would that be in front of the Senate?

Giuliani: We will figure out the right forum, and it will come at the right time. I don’t have all the evidence yet, I just met with a new witness just yesterday. [crosstalk with reporter] I can’t tell you who I met with. This is expanding, it will turn out to be a series of criminal acts, it will involve the highest levels of the Obama Administration, and it’s the reason why the Democratic Party is in panic.

What they did to the Ukraine…[shakes his head several times] is embarrassing…

Reporter: Would you testify in the [Senate] trial?

Giuliani: I would testify, I would do demonstrations, I’d give lectures, I’d give summations, or…[removes glasses] I’d do what I do best: I’d try the case. I’d love to try the case.

Reporter: Are you telling us you are going to try the case?

Giuliani: Well, I don’t know. I don’t know if anybody would have the courage to give me the case. But if you give me the case, I will prosecute it as a racketeering case, which I kind of invented, anyway.

So, it’s been 30 years ago, but let’s see if I can still do it.

[End]

For those who may not be aware, as the lead U.S. Attorney at the Southern District of New York, Giuliani became the first to successfully prosecute a case under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statute. Giuliani used those laws to bring down a series of prominent mob bosses. No one better understands a racketeering operation when he sees one that Mr. Giuliani does.

The corrupt news media will of course continue to smear Giuliani as just some old crank spreading false rumors about political enemies, or even worse, as a guy running his own racket, as MSNBC did in early December. Remember one of the first things you have to know about Democrats: Projection is their favorite tactic. They always, without exception, accuse Republicans of the same wrongdoing they are themselves guilty of doing.

The entire Ukraine-focused impeachment scam is nothing more than a massive case of Democrat projection, accusing President Trump of the very ‘quid pro quo’ shakedown that we have Joe Biden admitting on video to doing. Giuliani has spent the better part of the last year accumulating evidence against Biden and other Democrats, and is now willing to testify about what he’s found.

The only questions at this point are:

  • Will the GOP-controlled senate allow him to testify?; and
  • Will Giuliani be able to remain alive long enough to do so?

After all, as we have seen so many times now, those who hold information damaging to the interests of prominent Democrats – or of prominent RINOs like John McCain, who had his own dealings in Ukraine – seem to have a very, very hard time avoiding “suicide”.

That is all.

UPDATE: Just after I posted this piece, the following news broke:

Rudy is not the only person investigating this looming enormous scandal.

Pros and Cons of Bernie Sanders as the Democrat Nominee

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: This is a guest piece from podcast and radio host Karen Kataline. Karen is the producer and host of Spouting Off, a live, Internet call-in talk show covering politics, pop culture and social psychology. Like me, Karen is a former political professional, and she has had op/eds published at places like Op Eds can be seen online at Fox News, Investor’s Business Daily, Western Journal, Town Hall, The Daily Caller, FrontPage Mag, and The American Thinker. I hope you enjoy Karen’s thoughts and share them liberally with your friends, family and worst liberal enemies.]

The latest distraction for news junkies is that Democrats think Bernie Sanders could really win the their Nomination for Election 2020.

So, at this point, let’s do a cost/benefit analysis for the Republicans if Bernie should get the nomination he was robbed of in 2016.

  • We could have a full-on debate about Socialism vs. Capitalism. It is sad that we have to keep having that debate. Every generation, young or old, seems to fall in love with Utopian thinking, or they have been indoctrinated by radical, Leftist political factions who play the long game.
  • Squishy or corrupt (sometimes one and the same) Republicans will be forced to better articulate those arguments at which many have been inept at making thus far.
  • Everyday Americans will be reminded of the sacrifices that so many have made to prevent the nightmare of socialism. It will shine a light on tyranny and evil rather than allowing it to fester in darkness.
  • Trump has been preparing for this argument for over two years. He’s ready for it and has actual, measurable, results to back it up.
  • Bernie is everything the Left claims to hate: Old, Rich, White, Male who can only pander to the groups to which the Left has been so condescending and relegating to the status of victimhood. If he does win the nomination, look for him to choose a black female running mate, regardless of what she stands for. It’s all about identity politics and ad hominem attacks on their enemies because they have nothing else.

There is only one con as far as I can see tell for Bernie to be the Democrat nominee. He is likely to be hammered so hard that the socialist Left will start taking lessons from Obama on how to once again hide their radical, socialist views.

That puts us back to where we were in about 2010. Leave it to Donald Trump in the meantime to illustrate the moral imperative of freedom… and the prosperity that is possible when individual sovereignty and free will is protected by a restrained government. What a coincidence! That’s exactly the way our Founders intended it.

Leftism is Destructive to Mental Health

Today’s Campaign Update, Part III
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Whenever there is a horrible mass shooting, we have come to expect rampant speculation about the mental status of mass murderers as well as the ugly politicization that comes almost immediately after such horrific events.

As a formerly practicing mental health professional, (MSW, Columbia University) I would never diagnose someone without a personal interview and at the very least, a thorough exploration of his or her family history.

Plenty of books have been written about what these monsters have in common.  Much as we would like to lump them together, they are still individuals with their own history, motivation, and diagnosis. The tendency to make broad generalizations and collectivist conclusions is part of the problem. This makes it easier to place the blame on everyone else but the killer himself.

Collectivism is endemic to the poisonous ideology of Leftism (read: Socialism.) It robs people of their individual identity and therefore, personal accountability–particularly in those who are already psychologically vulnerable.

The tenets of socialism encourage:

  • Victimhood (Isn’t that the root of paranoia?)
  • Poor impulse control coupled with continuous rage and popular culture that is progressively more tolerant of criminality when perpetrated by members of certain protected groups.
  • Depersonalization as a result of viewing oneself solely in collectivist terms.
  • Subjugation and eventual eradication of individualism and free will, leading to a sense of fatalism, helplessness, hopelessness and clinical depression.
  • Emotional fragility and regression into a childlike state.
  • Eradication of boundaries, structure and accountability.
  • Class envy, a sense of entitlement, resulting in increased government dependency.
  • An inability to tolerate conflict and even differences of opinion.
  • Black and white thinking (as to race and much more) which lumps people into groups of “all-good,” or “all-bad.” This is typical of the older diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.

Which of these is not familiar as a basic tenet of socialism?

One more point before I take off my clinician hat: When an individual has had a grievous loss, he is often discouraged from making big decisions or drastic changes in his life. Yet, that is just when political opportunists want us to make drastic changes in our policies and laws.

Intentional or not, laws which disarm victims while creating a more dangerous environment are what Democrats are clearly advocating. Republicans have shown themselves willing to roll over to avoid the political heat of the moment.  Consequently, everyday citizens are once again blamed and punished for the criminal behavior of a few.  That collectivist ideology has been pushed by the Left for decades.

How I wish I could tell President Trump to put on the brakes in supporting policies in the heat of grief and emotion. It remains to be seen whether his recent speech will yield fundamental policy changes but I for one, hope not. Not only do sweeping, federal laws do little to address the complex issues of this problem but the only people who stand to lose are law-abiding citizens.

THERE IS AN EPIDEMIC OF FYOGISM (FOR YOUR OWN GOOD-ISM)

Former New York Mayor and Presidential candidate, Michael Bloomberg recently held a Town Hall meeting in the Denver Metro area, but the town wasn’t invited.

Among his proposals that emerged from the soundbites and photo ops was another ban on “assault style weapons” and the removal of immunity for gun makers and dealers in civil lawsuits. Bloomberg also wants to enact a federal version of “Red Flag” Gun laws.

This is hardly surprising since he has already spent a considerable amount from his vast 54 billion dollar fortune to twist the arms of state legislators around the country to impose numerous gun control laws regardless of what residents of those states might want. Never mind that he has never lived in any of those states or paid taxes in them.

When it comes to government regulations, gun control, and growing the power and scope of government, there is never a point at which Liberals or Leftists say, “Okay, that’s enough. We’re done now.”

Bloomberg for example, seems to fancy himself something of a helicopter parent for the country. He wants to protect us from a changing and growing list of perceived dangers such as sugary sodas, loud ear buds and salt.

Leftist ideology typifies the kind of narcissistic, dictatorial parents that send many adults into therapy for twenty years. Such parents tend to discourage their kids from growing up and making their own choices and mistakes. This behavior feeds their own needs, not the needs of their children.  The desire to use one’s power and resources to treat adults like children and keep them dependent is not that much different, and it is anything but generous or altruistic.

There is an epidemic of FYOGism (For your own good-ism) that is being fueled by a Left that has de-educated the young in the principles of Liberty, individual freedom, and personal responsibility on which our country was proudly founded.

Without these cornerstones, people can be easily swayed to vote for people who push policies that infringe on their neighbor’s freedoms. They don’t understand that soon, the loosening of these boundaries will infringe on their own freedoms as well.

Republicans have the moral high ground on this and a host of other issues, but they have been too afraid and ill-prepared to claim it and adequately explain it. Genuine altruism and love for one’s fellow man requires restraint from using one’s own power to control them. It requires respect for their choices even when one heartily disagrees.

Maybe that’s why it’s so important to be reminded that whatever you conceive God to be, our rights come from God and not from men.  God gave us free will but a man who thinks he’s God never does.
