Michael Wolff Laments a Magazine Industry that is Dying of Self-Inflicted Wounds

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: Today’s Campaign Update will be on a delayed morning schedule from November 30 through  December 4.]

Great, but don’t go making promises you can’t keep. – Political fantasy writer Michael Wolff, the author of the anti-Trump fantasy “Fire and Fury,” promised in a Friday interview with Spectator USA that he plans to say no more about President Donald Trump.

“Every magazine I have ever worked for, and I have worked for them all, is dead or will die shortly,” he explained. “For another thing, Donald Trump is the one consuming subject, sucking all views and opinions into his void, and on this issue I have nothing left to say.”

“Still, even with the collapse of so many journalistic enterprises, many of my former colleagues still go on at great and constant unpaid length on social media or, scrambling for a pay-per-appearance contract, as desperately willing pundits on cable television. Why? People are afraid, it seems, to say nothing,” Wolff proclaimed. “I’m looking forward to trying.”

Ok, so, what this most likely means is the spinner of fables has a new book coming out early next year and has begun his promotional tour early. But really, who gives a damn? He’s a fantasy writer, and not a very good one.

What caught my eye about his comments, though, was this part: “Every magazine I have ever worked for, and I have worked for them all, is dead or will die shortly.” Bingo. And why is that?

Well, we had a wonderful example of why that’s the case just this past weekend, didn’t we? That would be the incident with near-dead Newsweek publishing a false report by Jessica Kwong that the President planned to spend his Thanksgiving Day “tweeting” and “golfing” when in fact he was in the process of making a wearying trip to Afghanistan for a surprise visit with the U.S. troops there.

Kwong was fired as a result, but the name of the specific reporter who filed this specific piece is not even relevant anymore, since her false report was just another in an unending procession of this kind of intentionally false report over the last four years, all designed to damage the President’s reputation. It is seriously as if every newspaper, magazine and TV outlet in America is in a competition to see who among them can abandon all pretense to journalistic ethics the most quickly and abhorrently.

The disgraceful hackery taking place at Newsweek is just a symptom of an industry on its death bed. Newsweek is the magazine version of the New York Times and the newspaper business, or CNN and the TV “news” industry. They are all dying along with the profession of journalism generally

The journalist hacks like to blame the slow-motion death of their industry on the Internet, and the sucking up of all the advertising revenues by Google and Facebook. But that’s a cop-out, an attempt to deflect the blame away from their own failings.

The print industry awoke to the threat posed by the digital space a quarter of a century ago. It is incumbent upon any business that becomes faced with a sudden existential threat to adapt and work harder to improve its product offering and become more competitive.

But by and large, newspapers and magazines reacted not by becoming more competitive and improving their product, but by repeatedly laying people off, cutting their product to shreds and raising prices. With every subsequent cut and price increase, the quality of the product grew worse.

Any sense of journalistic ethics was gradually tossed to the winds along with the jobs of researchers, copy editors and other quality control functions. Thus, we end up with today’s situation at most of these publications with a single person who was poorly-educated in some J-school to do one of these jobs trying to do all of them in a mad rush to get something, anything posted out on the website that might attract some clicks.

And that’s how you end up with a Jessica Kwong – although the name makes no real difference at all because it could have been any one of thousands of people doing the exact same thing every day – becoming the sacrificial lamb at Newsweek for doing nothing more than following that fake publication’s current business model.

The magazine industry is in fact dying a death by slow-motion suicide and Michael Wolff, a guy who made his living by penning highly-sensationalized fantasies in order to maximize clicks, is in fact one of the major culprits. If he can now really make himself “say nothing” on any subject as promised in that interview, he’d be doing his industry – and everyone else – a huge favor.

That is all.

That Time Newsweek Pretended to Have Journalistic Ethics

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: Today’s Campaign Update will be on a delayed morning schedule from November 30 through  December 4.]

Wow. Newsweek is pretending to be all journalist-y and stuff now. – As reported here at the Campaign Update on Friday, a fake reporter for the on-life-support fake magazine Newsweek named Jessica Kwong beclowned herself and her corrupt editors by putting out a Thanksgiving morning piece in which she claimed President Trump planned to spend his day “Tweeting, golfing and more.”

But just hours later it was revealed that the President in fact made a secret flight to Afghanistan to spend the day with the U.S. military personnel at Bagram Air Force base. In response to that revelation, Kwong sheepishly issued a tweet in which she claimed to have made “an honest mistake.” Now, we all know that’s a lot of stuff and nonsense – or as Joe Biden would call it, “a bunch of malarky” – because it was obviously an effort by Ms. Kwong to damage the President’s reputation based on false assumptions about his character, something Newsweek and the rest of the corrupt news media outlets do every day.

In response to Kwong’s self-immolation, President Trump himself issued this hilarious tweet:

If this were CNN or the New York Times, you’d normally expect Ms. Kwong to be elevated to an editor’s job or maybe even the editorial board itself for engaging in such shameful hackery and self-humiliation. After all, Paul Krugman and Brian Stelter still thrive despite their serial clownish hackery. But apparently the public outcry towards Newsweek was enough to force the miserable cretins who run that operation to pretend to have suddenly developed a set of journalistic efforts, given that they fired Ms. Kwong on Saturday.

In announcing the firing, Newsweek issued the following laughable statement:

Image

So, Ms. Kwong is long gone, but Newsweek will struggle on, hoping you will think they have all these, like, “processes” and stuff in place, or something, to prevent it all from happening over and over and over again in the future. Because journalism!

No one should feel sorry for Ms. Kwong. We will no doubt find out in the coming week that she has landed herself a job at some other fake, corrupt news outlet, because the Democrat/media/deep state Axis of Disinformation always rewards its loyal foot soldiers. Newsweek did what it did strictly for reasons of self-preservation, but that doesn’t mean anyone at, say, Politico or Time will have to act accordingly.

Or hey, maybe she’ll grab a job at Bloomberg, a “news” operation so corrupt that it unashamedly brags about the fact that it refuses to investigate any of the myriad Democrat presidential candidates, focusing all of its efforts on President Trump. That seems like an outfit where a clown-suited hack like Jessica Kwong will fit right in.

That is all.

The Trump Economy Defies the “Experts” Yet Again

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: Today’s Campaign Update will be on a delayed morning schedule from November 30 through  December 4.]

This damn Trump economy just refuses to cooperate with all the “experts.” – This Black Friday was, at least according to all the “experts” quoted by cable news operations an the nation’s other corrupt media outlets, supposed to be a down year. According to their joint narrative with the Democrat Party, the Trump Economy was supposed to be lurching along into a new recession, one that would arrive just in time to impact President Trump’s chances for re-election in 2020.

Given that 2/3rds of U.S. Gross Domestic Product – GDP – is derived from consumer spending, this media/Democrat/”experts” narrative meant it was necessary for Black Friday’s spending to be down from last year and the year before that. Thus, those were the predictions we were getting from people on MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg and on and on throughout the fake, corrupt, narrative-driven media.

But the problem with this narrative is a fundamental one: It is not true. The Trump economy is not bumbling along to another recession at all, as evidenced by third quarter jobs numbers and economic growth estimates having been revised upwards by over 10% in recent weeks. Those revisions would have been taken by real “experts” as warning signs that they were promoting a false story to the American public. But when the “experts” are fake, the warning signs go unnoticed.

The next big warning to the purveyors of fake news should have come when Adobe, which surveys 80 of the top 100 retailers in the U.S., announced early on Friday that Thanksgiving Day online sales had come in at a record high $4.2 billion, a 14.5% increase over 2018. In that same report, Adobe said that Black Friday’s online sales had already reached $600 million by 9:00 ET, a whopping 19.2% rise from 2018, which put it on a pace to reach $7.4 million for the day, far and away a record for any Black Friday, and the second-highest online sales day in history, behind last year’s Cyber Monday total.

Adobe confirmed that $7.4 billion Black Friday total in a follow-up report on Saturday, and now projects that Cyber Monday sales could reach a phenomenal $9.4 billion, almost 20% higher than last year’s record $7.9 billion. And finally, “small business Saturday” sales were projected by Adobe to reach $3.0 billion, up 18% over the record set in 2018.

These are not indicators of an economy limping along towards the contraction the “expert” narrative engineers prefer. While these double-digit jumps in online sales were partially offset by about 6% lower foot-traffic sales at malls and brick-and-mortar stores, per an initial estimate by ShopperTrak, the overall picture this massive consumer spending paints is one of a vibrant and very healthy economy.

Just a personal anecdote about that foot traffic: It may be down slightly across the country, but in Las Vegas it is wall-to-wall people. The little wifey and I touched down here on early Friday afternoon, and everyone we have spoken with is stunned by the masses of people flowing through this city’s casinos and high-end shopping centers this weekend.

It’s just one city, but it makes us wonder if we won’t see those ShopperTrak estimates quietly revised upwards in the coming days. This low-ball estimate followed by a quiet upwards revision process has, after all, become an integral part of the anti-Trump narrative, after all. Why stop now?

In any event, this record Thanksgiving consumer weekend is just one more instance of an agenda-based, narrative-driven media and group of “experts” trying to influence the public into creating a slowing economy based on fear and fear alone. The big problem they have at this point is that they have played the boy who cried wolf so many times now that the public no longer pays any attention to them.

God Bless America and its’ President, Donald J. Trump.

British Election Will Provide a Preview of Trump’s 2020 Re-Election

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: Today’s Campaign Update will be on a delayed morning schedule from November 30 through  December 4.]

When voters in the United Kingdom went to the polls on June 23, 2016 to vote on the referendum on whether to leave the European Union (Brexit) or remain in it (remain), the polls all predicted – by an average of 8% – that “remain” would win handily. But of course we all know that the actual vote ended with a 52-48% Brexit victory.

Five months later, all the polls predicted Hillary Clinton would defeat Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential contest, with the New York Times at one point giving Clinton a 99% chance of prevailing.  In the end, Mr. Trump prevailed with a near-landslide in the electoral college, the only measure that matters in our system.

Keen observers understood that the two elections were fought on basically the same issues: economic malaise, open borders, and general national decline brought to both nations by the forces of globalism and the politicians who impose it on their populations. Voters in favor of Brexit and Trump were under-polled by biased polling organizations, many of whom are run by corrupt media outlets determined to slant their reporting in favor of “remain” and Clinton. A few observers – including Today’s Campaign Update – predicted that the Brexit vote would actually serve as precursor to a Trump victory, which is clearly what happened.

Since those elections were held in 2016, the corrupt and disloyal forces of globalism in both nations have attempted to regroup and reclaim power, while doing everything in their power to deny the voters the fruits of their respective victories. In Britain, Brexit agreements negotiated with leaders in the EU by Prime Minister Theresa May were repeatedly rebuffed in Parliament, with many disloyal members of her own Conservative Party joining forces with the Labor Party – led by the mendacious and corrupt Jeremy Corbin, Britain’s version of San Fran Nan – to vote down every iteration of the proposal.

That failure to deliver led first to the Conservatives losing their parliamentary majority, and ultimately to May’s being replaced earlier this year by early Brexit advocate Boris Johnson. When Johnson saw his own initial proposed Brexit deal voted down in September,  that in turn led to a purging of disloyal Conservatives from the Party, and Johnson’s demanding a so-called “snap election” in which Johnson hopes to win a new mandate from the voters.

With that vote scheduled to take place on December 12, today’s polls in Britain now reflect a decided pro-Conservative, pro-Johnson, pro-Brexit sentiment among the country’s voters. The latest poll from YouGov projects that Johnson’s Party will score its largest landslide win since Lady Margaret Thatcher won her third term in office in 1987. YouGov projects a net Conservative gain of 42 seats, which would give it a clear majority of Parliament’s 650 seats. Although other polls also project a major Conservative victory, the YouGov result seems particularly significant since it was the only major poll to correctly predict the Conservative Party’s big losses in the 2017 elections.

If the December 12 vote does deliver a Conservative majority approaching the 68-seat advantage YouGov predicts, it would manifest the demand from British citizens that Parliament finally act on the mandate they delivered three and a half years ago. Good for them.

So, what does that mean for next November’s elections in the United States? Well, let’s think about it: What has been taking place in the U.S since November 2016? Just as in Britain, the forces of globalism have been working tirelessly, employing every dishonest tool at their corrupt disposal to deny Trump voters the fruits of their victory. President Trump has been subjected to an unending series of hoax ‘scandals’ and fake investigations and clown show impeachment hearings and congressional obstruction and all the fake news our corrupt media establishment can produce, all in an effort by the powers of globalism to regain their lost power.

American voters are becoming weary of the refusal by the Democrat Party to accept the results of the 2016 election, with polls showing more and more Democrats showing up at Trump rallies and pledging their support for the President. This is especially true in the African American community, where multiple recent polls now indicate 34% support for President Trump. If the President can achieve half that much support from the Black community, next year’s election will become an historic landslide.

So, keep an eye on the results from the December 12 voting across the Pond. Just as it did in 2016, the result of that election is likely to eventually serve as a precursor of things to come next November.

That is all.

The New York Times and Newsweek Deliver Thanksgiving Disgraces

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: Today’s Campaign Update will be on a delayed morning schedule from November 30 through  December 4.]

Ok, so, what else would we expect from the New York Times, right? Right. Still, the headline that ran with an op/ed piece by the corrupt newspaper’s inept economist, Paul Krugman, betrayed a desperate effort to plumb new depths of journalistic malfeasance by the newspaper of fake record:

Image

I couldn’t tell you what Krugman says in his latest bit of lame-brainery because it’s behind the Times’s firewall, and we here at Today’s Campaign Update are not in the habit of lending monetary support to the faking of America’s news. But let’s be honest: Nothing Krugman has to say is worth noting anyway. After all, he’s the circus clown who predicted that the election of Donald Trump to the presidency would bring about the total collapse of the U.S. economy, a collapse from which America would “never recover.”

D’oh!

It’s fair to note that Krugman and the Times were not the only corrupt fake journalist/fake news outlet to disgrace themselves on Thanksgiving. Jessica Kwong, a fake reporter for the on-life-support Newsweek – which no longer can afford to exist as a real magazine but still fakes the news in the digital space – issued a tweet early on Thanksgiving that said:

Image

But later in the day, news broke that President Trump had in fact flown out to Afghanistan in the wee hours of the morning to make a surprise visit and spend Thanksgiving with U.S. military personnel at Bagram Air Field. There he not only dined with the troops, he actually served them their dinner, laughed and joked with them and just generally enjoyed a rare chance to be with real Americans and the troops he loves and supports:

This early afternoon revelation led to the fake, corrupt journalist Kwong issuing this “correction”:

An “honest mistake.” Yeah, sure, right, uh-huh. That’s an interesting way to describe going to press with a completely false story with zero sourcing or journalistic process in just another corrupt effort to do harm to the President’s reputation. In today’s 100% dishonest, corrupt media, there is no such thing as an “honest mistake.”

Kwong’s humiliation led to the creation of this sterling Twitter meme:

Image

To be honest, I don’t remember a time during my 60+ years on earth when Newsweek was a reputable news source, but I suppose it might have been the case before I was born. In any event, it and the New York Times have certainly surrendered all pretense over the last four years.

On This Thanksgiving, Be Thankful For All Of This WINNING

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Given that today’s Thanksgiving, I figured it would be a good time to lecture you all on all the many things I am thankful for today. – Not that you needed it – everybody else is doing the same thing, after all, including the doofuses who host the morning news show on our local TV stations here in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. They are weird people, but I’m thankful for them because they do provide periodic comic relief. Like when they try to predict the weather here in North Texas more than 4-5 hours in advance. It’s honestly hilarious.

Anyway, here are a bunch of things I am thankful for on this cold and rainy Thanksgiving morning:

Family – Yeah, I know, this is obligatory, right? But I truly do have a wonderful family, filled with brothers and sisters and kids and grandkids and the most wonderful, patient, kind and understanding wife who ever lived. I even have in-laws who I really love, one of whom kept me up too late drinking really good wine last night. So, I blame my hangover on family. And what good is family without hangovers?

The Trump Economy – Every major stock market index closed at a record high level on Wednesday, the 5th of the last 8 trading days this has happened.

Adam Schiff – Seriously, what would life be like without ol’ Bug-eyes? Talk about comic relief, this guy’s better than every sitcom on television, other than The Neighborhood, which I watch religiously. Cedric the Entertainer cracks me up, and that guy who plays Dave is epic. So I’m thankful for them, too.

But seriously, Adam Schiff is a better Bond villain than any of the real Bond villains. Everything this guy does repulses anyone with functioning synapses in their cranial cavities. He is the perfect poster child for today’s Democrat Party: Corrupt, inept, corrupt, stupid, corrupt, evil and corrupt. What more could you ask for?

Nancy Pelosi’s Dentures – Have you ever seen a more rebellious mouth appliance than those things? Really and truly, this woman is worth about $200 million, and she can’t afford a set of fake teeth that won’t come loose and try to jump out of her mouth every time she holds a press conference? I salute you, Nancy Pelosi’s Dentures! You are awesome!

America’s oil and gas industry – Think about it: Where would you be today without America’s oil and gas industry? Let me answer that question for you:  You’d be sitting in a cold, damp home with no way to cook your food, no lights, no television, no cell phone, no toothpaste, no makeup for the women-folk, no bottled water, no refrigerated food, maybe no food at all given that most plant fertilizers are manufactured using natural gas (did you know that?), and no way to get anywhere else unless you owned a horse and buggy.

In short, without America’s magnificent, glorious oil and natural gas industry you would be living a 19th century existence filled with deprivation and hardship. So quit bitching about the price for regular unleaded anytime it goes up 2 cents. Be thankful you have the blessing of being able to pay for this miracle that made modern society possible.

The Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns – I’m thankful to my favorite pro and college football teams for demonstrating earlier than usual that they are pitiful mediocrities who are going nowhere yet again, because it frees up all sorts of time for me to focus on other, more important things. Those rose bushes really needed trimming. That’s far preferable to the Dodgers, my favorite baseball team, who took me all the way into the playoffs before folding up like a cheap suit in the NLDS this season. Talk about a time sink.

WINNING. So much WINNING. – Yes, even though all of my sports obsessions are miserable losers, I am so thankful this Thanksgiving for President Donald John Trump and all the incessant WINNING he brings to all of our lives, whether we appreciate it or not.

In addition to the roaring economy and resultant booming stock market he has delivered, this is a President with an actual sense of humor. The best part of that sense of humor is that he employs it each and every day in efforts to infuriate leftist nitwits like Adam Schiff and San Fran Nan and their corrupt toadies in our fake news media. Like yesterday, when he tweeted out that meme with his face superimposed over Rocky’s body, knowing that it would throw every leftist/media toady in the country into a snit fit, and sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.

I keep thinking that all these leftist nitwits will at some point figure out that President Trump is the greatest Twitter troller of all-time, but no. They’re just not capable. They can’t help themselves, and I’m thankful for that, too.

Why? Because it’s WINNING, and I love all this WINNING.

And turkey, and dressing, and sweet potatoes and broccoli and rice casserole and pecan pie. I’m thankful for those things, too. And I’m fixing to go eat all that stuff.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, folks. I’m thankful for all of you, too.

That is all.

Corrupt, Humorless News Media Launches Investigations After Trump Tweets Meme

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

You seriously could never make these people up if they didn’t already exist. – The fake journalists who populate the corrupt news media wonder endlessly why the American people hate them with such a passion – they truly cannot understand it.

And then today happens.

President Donald Trump tweeted out a hilarious meme of his face superimposed over the body of Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” character on Wednesday morning, and you would have thought the damn world was coming to an end. Here’s the tweet in question:

Image

Now, swear to God, this is what the raging nitwit Democrat toadies at the Washington Post tweeted out in response:

“unclear why.” *sigh*

Really? You are truly unclear why a man with a keen sense of humor would tweet out a humorous meme featuring his face superimposed on a movie hero’s body?

Here are some other things that are not clear to the Democrat toadies at the Washington Post:

  • Dentist told WaPo editor to floss five times a week. Unclear why.
  • Label on lettuce recommends consumers wash in warm water before eating. Unclear why.
  • Low tire pressure light appears on WaPo reporter’s car console. Unclear why.
  • Mailbox in front of WaPo publisher’s home filled with mail. Unclear why.
  • Yard guys arrive at WaPo editor’s home weekly to mow grass. Unclear why.
  • Nancy Pelosi has all kinds of issues keeping her dentures in her mouth when talking. Unclear why.
  • Reboot of Roseanne not funny without Roseanne. Unclear why.
  • No one went to see horrific feminazi remake of Charlie’s Angels. Unclear why.

This list could go on and on, and the rank stupidity it telegraphs to the public is not limited to the toadies at the Washington Post. Both CNN and the New York Times actually launched investigations into why exactly it was that President Trump tweeted out the meme, joining the Post in referring to it as “doctored.”

And they wonder why we hate them? Really?

Here is wishing everyone who reads this a joyful and happy Thanksgiving holiday.

[Your enjoyment of it will be maximized to the extent you are able to completely ignore the corrupt nitwits in the fake media.]

Good Move on the Terrorist Cartels, Mr. President. Now do Antifa.

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Tired of all this #WINNING yet? Hah! Fat chance. – For the fourth time in the last seven trading days, all three major stock market indexes attained record high closes on Tuesday. This was the 10th record-high closing day in November alone, and…wait for it…the 100th record high closing day for the Dow Jones Industrials since Donald John Trump was sworn in as President of the United States.

Great. Now do Antifa – Speaking of President Trump, he told Bill O’Reilly in an interview released on Tuesday that he will soon designate Mexico’s governing party, er, major drug cartels as terrorist organizations, “and start hitting them with drone attacks.” This naturally threw Mexico’s government officials – most of whom are in the cartels’ deep pockets – into a panic, with the Mexican foreign ministry immediately announcing it would seek “high-level meetings” with counterparts in the U.S. State Department to discuss the matter.

Mexico’s foreign minister said his country would not allow any “violation of national sovereignty”, which is laughable considering that his country allows its citizens and the drug cartels to violate U.S. national sovereignty thousands of times every day.

President Trump is obviously still angry over the brutal mass killings of U.S. expatriate Mormon women and children by cartels early in November. Immediately following this latest act of depravity and the utter failure of Mexico’s government to address it in any effective manner, the President promised to “go to war” with the cartels, and offered Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador the support of the U.S. military in fighting them. Naturally, the corrupt Mexican government immediately dismissed the idea.

At some point, the United States is going to have to face the reality that Mexico is a failed state, and that its presence on the southern border poses too much of a danger to the lives and well-being of U.S. citizens to continue to ignore. Mexican cartels murder U.S. citizens every day, and their boldness in violating our borders and murdering, kidnapping and torturing Americans only grows over time.

By designating the cartels as terrorist organizations, President Trump will make it illegal for anyone to knowingly offer the cartels any form of support, which will create massive problems for open-borders politicians of both parties. Financial institutions who knowingly possess funds connected to any designated terrorist organization must alert the U.S. Treasury and impound the funds.

You will know which U.S. politicians are in the pockets of the cartels by observing which ones screech the loudest in opposition to having them designated as terrorists. This is not complicated. There is no valid, honest reason for any well-meaning person to oppose this move.

Once the President has completed this designation process with the cartels, he should immediately move to impose the same designation on domestic terrorist groups like Antifa. Doing this would of course generate massive outrage from the Democrat Party – which, after all, created Antifa – and the corrupt news media, but so what? The President is subjected to that every day regardless of what he does.

Antifa has been terrorizing U.S. citizens on the streets of large, Democrat-controlled cities since the day after the 2016 presidential election. The corrupt media goes to great pains to refuse to air videos of the riots the group creates on a regular basis, but we’ve all seen them anyway thanks to social media.

It is long past time for the federal government to move effectively to cripple this obvious domestic terrorist organization by de-funding it and penalizing any U.S. citizen who offers it support. As with the cartels, there is no valid, honest reason for anyone to oppose such a move.

Democrat politicians like to talk about Americans having a right to feel “safe” in their daily lives. The best first step to achieving that would be to end the reign of terror by the group the Democrat Party created in November 2016 and still supports today.

That is all.

Fired SecNav Spencer Debases Himself in CBS Interview

Today’s Campaign Update, Part III
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Dear Mr. Spencer: Knowing when to shut up is a wonderful life skill. You should acquire it. – In an interview with CBS News released on Tuesday, fired ex-Navy Secretary Richard Spencer took several shots at President Donald Trump, and otherwise basically let the door hit him in the ass on his way out:

“I don’t think he really understands the definition of a warfighter,” Spencer said. “A warfighter is a profession of arms. And a profession of arms has standards that they have to be held to, and they hold themselves to.”

Spencer added that Trump’s intervention “erodes” trust in the U.S. military and the principles, like “good order and discipline,” on which the U.S. military stands. He told CBS News that Trump’s actions also send a dark message to U.S. troops: “That you can get away with things.”

One “standard” that any “warfighter” must learn to hold himself to is a respect for the chain of command. At the top of that chain of command sits the “Commander-in-Chief,” or as he is otherwise known, the President of the United States. That person today happens to be Donald J. Trump.

President Trump issued a pardon to Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher and ordered his rank restored after he had been wrongly convicted – in the President’s view – by a very abusive and corrupt court martial process. Spencer chose to defy that pardon by then convening a review board designed to further persecute Gallagher. He further defied the President by refusing to disband that review board after the Commander-in-Chief had ordered him to do so in a tweet last week, resorting to the utterly laughable claim that a tweet does not amount to a “formal order.”

As for Spencer’s absurd statement that the President’s pardon of Gallagher and restoration of his rank sends a “dark message” to other troops “that you can get away with things,” what exactly is Gallagher supposedly getting away with?

Remember, after that long and abusive court martial process, Gallagher was convicted of the “crime” of posing for a photo with the body of a dead terrorist. He didn’t deface the body, didn’t steal anything from it, just posed for a photo with the body of a terrorist who he was sent to the Middle East by his country to kill.

Rather than being punished for that photo, the Navy should have hung it on the wall in the lobby of the Pentagon with the caption, “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.”

The same sentiment is an appropriate description of the firing of Richard Spencer: Getting jackasses like him out of our government is why Donald Trump was elected in the first place.

That is all.
