Wednesday News Roundup: The McCloskeys Will See Justice at a Price and Trump’s Shocking Maxwell Statement

Wait, what???? – During his revived COVID-19 press briefing on Tuesday, the President of the United States of America had this to say about accused pedophile madam Ghislaine Maxwell:

Here is the full answer:

Reporter: Ghislaine Maxwell is in prison, and so a lot of people want to know if she’s going to turn in powerful people. I know you’ve talked in the past about Prince Andrew, and you’ve criticized Bill Clinton’s behavior. I wonder: Do you feel she’s going to turn in powerful men? how do you see that working out?

President Trump: I don’t know, I haven’t really been following it too much. I just wish her well, frankly. I’ve met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach and I guess they lived in Palm Beach. But I wish her well, whatever it is. I don’t know the situation with Prince Andrew, just don’t know. Not aware of it.

[End]

My goodness. The reporter is correct in that the President has indeed commented numerous times on his Twitter feed about both Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton. This is also the first time he has publicly admitted to meeting Maxwell more than once when they both lived in Palm Beach.

Understanding how communications operations in the political world work, this answer most likely means a couple of things:

– The White House has been made aware that Maxwell has presented the DOJ with evidence that she interacted with Trump on numerous occasions while she lived in Palm Beach, and the White House is trying to get ahead of any leaks of that information that will almost inevitably take place prior to Election Day, and

– The President does not want to make any inflammatory remarks that might negatively impact coming prosecutions against Prince Andrew and Clinton.

Again, knowing how these things work, it is very likely that that reporter was asked by the White House to ask that specific question.

The information that Trump met Maxwell on numerous occasions is not at all surprising given that she spent years living near Mar a Lago and that she, Trump and Jeffrey Epstein for years were all invited to parties and events involving the elite members of U.S. society. We should also remember that Trump famously banned Epstein and Maxwell from Mar a Lago after Epstein was seen behaving inappropriately with a teenage girl on the property.

But still, this statement is disturbing and disappointing in many ways. The only really positive thing about it is that the President did not display any of the body language typical of a nervous or guilty person while making it.

Don’t expect this story just to go away.

The McCloskeys will have their case dismissed. – But the goal of corrupt, Soros-funded St. Louis prosecutor Kim Gardner has already been achieved.

The McCloskeys, if you remember, are the St. Louis couple who wielded firearms in front of their home, on their own private property, as a gang of Antifa/BLM thugs invaded their gate neighborhood. Given that that entire neighborhood, including the streets, is private property owned by the residents, and that the gang of thugs broke down the gate in order to enter it, the action by the McCloskeys was perfectly and unambiguously legal under Missouri law. They literally did nothing wrong.

But instead of arresting and indicting the criminal thugs, Ms. Gardner arrested and booked the McCloskeys, ordering police to invade their home and seize their legally-owned weapons in the process. On Tuesday, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley called the actions by the prosecutor a “miscarriage of justice,” and urged the DOJ to “open a civil rights investigation into the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s office.”

Hawley’s demand came a day after Missouri’s Attorney General, Eric Schmitt, intervened in the case with a filing demanding its dismissal.

From a piece at the Daily Caller:

In subsequent tweets, the AG went on to say the following:

The right to defend one’s person, family, home and property has deep roots in Missouri law. Self-defense is the central component of the right to keep & bear arms, which receives the highest protection from the MO Constitution. #2A
MO statutes specifically authorize citizens to use firearms to deter assailants & protect themselves, their families & homes from threatening or violent intruders. #2A
A highly publicized criminal prosecution of citizens for exercising these fundamental freedoms threatens to intimidate & deter law-abiding citizens from exercising their constitutional right of self defense.
My job as AG is to protect the fundamental rights of all Missourians, including the right to keep & bear arm in self defense of one’s person and home. This case casts an ominous shadow over those fundamental rights.#2A
The prosecution sends a powerful message to all Missourians that they exercise their fundamental right to self defense at their peril. Missourians should not fear exposure to criminal prosecution, even prison time, when they use firearms to defend themselves and their homes.
As AG I am vested with authority to enter this case for several reasons: 27.060 grants the AG authority to intervene in actions that threaten the interests of all Missourians.
I have a duty to protect & defend the const & statutory rights of Missourians including the Constitutional right to keep & bear arms & the right to self-defense by way of our Constitution & Missouri’s Castle Doctrine.
I have entered the case and filed a brief seeking a dismissal of the case to ensure ALL Missourians who wish to exercise their fundamental right to defend themselves, their families & their homes without fear of criminal prosecution. #2A
This case is extraordinary. Based on widely reported facts, this prosecution targets conduct explicitly protected both by the MO Constitution & statutes setting forth the “Castle Doctrine” of self-defense. #2A
In other words this is not just a case of the gov’t retaliating against a citizen for exercising a fundamental right – which is bad enough – its also a case where the local prosecutor believes that exercising that fundamental right is – itself – a crime.
This political prosecution is not based in law and as long as it continues it will send a public message to ALL Missourians: If you dare to exercise the fundamental right to keep & bear arms in defense of family and home, you may be prosecuted and sent to prison. #2A
The Right to Keep & Bear Arms in Self-Defense of One’s Person & Home Receives the MO Constitution’s Highest Level of Protection. Self-defense is the “core lawful purpose” & the “central component” of the right to keep & bear arms in both the #2A & MO Const. See Heller decision.
This “core and lawful purpose” includes “the right of law-abiding, responsible citizens to use arms in defense of hearth & home.” See Heller.
The right to keep & bear arms is a “fundamental right” that is “necessary to our system of ordered liberty.” See McDonald case. #2A
The Founders viewed the right to keep & bear arms in self-defense as a natural right that was inalienable. This recognition predated the adoption of the US Constitution & had deep roots in English concepts of liberty forged in the Glorious Revolution of 1689. #2A
Thus under principles of English law that the Founders viewed as fundamental, the right to keep & bear arms was “a recognition of the natural right of defense of one’s person or house as part of the law of self preservation & central to the #2A.”
The Founders knew the right to keep & bear arms, not the gov’t. is the citizens first line of defense against physical attack. Thus, this right received its greatest emphasis during times when gov’t could not not trusted to protect citizens’ personal security. #2A
The landmark Heller decision mentions its importance for anti-slavery advocates & post-civil war firearms for self-defense was often the only way black citizens could protect themselves from mob violence.
If anything, this right is even more deeply rooted in Missouri’s unique history & tradition. The right was explicitly in Missouri’s first Const of 1820 stating; the “right to bear arms in defence of themselves & of the state cannot be questioned.” #2A
Mo has even expanded this language over the years including in 2014 when the overwhelming majority of MO voters including the language “home, person family & property” subject to “strict scrutiny.” #2A
It goes on, “The state of MO shall be obligated to uphold these rights & shall under NO circumstances decline to protect against their infringement.” #2A
By Enacting the Castle Doctrine of Self-Defense, MO Statutes Explicitly Authorize the Use of Firearms to Defend One’s Person, Family, Home, and Property From Threatening and Violent Intruders.
Missouri has adopted one of the strongest versions of the Castle Doctrine in the country. This Doctrine is not merely a creature of statute, but deeply rooted in the Constitutional right to keep & bear arms. #2A
Section 563.031 specifically authorizes MO citizens & homeowner to protect themselves from illegal invasions & intrusions into their homes & private property. It establishes 3 principles: #2A
1. Missourians may defend themselves & others using physical force (including firearm)to deter the imminent use of unlawful force by another person;
2. MOs may use deadly force against a person who unlawfully enters or attempts to enter private property owned by another & threatens to use unlawful force against another; 3. MOs have no duty to retreat from their own residence or property when threatened by an unlawful intruder
Further, the Castle Doctrine specifically shields Missourians who act in valid self-defense from prosecution for unlawful use of a weapon by exhibiting a weapon in an angry or threatening manner under 571.030.1(4). #2A
In fact 571.030.5 states: it SHALL NOT APPLY TO PERSONS WHO ARE ENGAGED IN A LAWFUL ACT OF DEFENSE PURSUANT TO SECTION 563.031. #2A
Thus, this is not a case where the Ds must raise a self-defense as an affirmative defense or assert the exercise of a const right as a defense to justify conduct that otherwise would constitute a crime. Exhibiting a weapon in an act of valid self-defense IS NOT A CRIME AT ALL.
The law is clear and unambiguous, if an intruder invades private property & threatens to harm the homeowner or another person, a citizen may defend him or herself. To display firearms in self-defense as in 563.031 is not a crime & it should not be charged as a crime at all. #2A
The Highly Politicized Prosecution of Missouri Citizens For Exercising Their Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Self-Defense May Intimidate & Deter Other Missourians From Exercising Their Fundamental Right of Self-Defense.
This case reflects the opposite of the state’s constitutional obligation under Art. I sec 23 to “uphold these rights” to keep & bear arms self-defense & “protect against infringement.” #2AShallNotBeInfringed
In fact this political prosecution sends a powerful & dangerous message: You exercise you right to keep & bear arms at your own peril. If you do you may find yourself in prison. #2A
This case has significance that extends well beyond the parties. The pendency of this case chills & deters all citizens from exercising one of our most fundamental right, which receives the highest level of protection in Missouri’s Constitution & laws. #2A
On behalf of all Missourians who wish to exercise their right to keep & bear arms in self-defense of their persons, homes families & property & as AG of the great state of MO I’m seeking a dismissal of this politically motivated case at the earliest opportunity. #2A
END THREAD

That’s very long, but well worth reading in full.

The McCloskeys will see ultimately their case dismissed, but Ms. Gardner’s evil goal has already been fulfilled: She knew going in she would never get a guilty verdict under the law. Her goal is the goal of all of the hundreds of Soros-funded local prosecutors who have been elected in recent years around the country: Intimidation.

The goal of Marxist thugs like Gardner is never to uphold the laws, but to destroy them, in the process intimidating their opponents into compliant submission. By abusing the rights of the McCloskeys in such a brutal way, Gardner was using them as an example of what can happen to any other law-abiding citizens under her jurisdiction should they exercise their 2nd Amendment rights in opposition to the Democrat Party-sponsored thugs in Antifa and BLM.

George Soros and his hundreds of front groups have invested hundreds of millions of dollars over the past decade to put prosecutors, mayors, city council members and elected judges just like Gardner into office. Ms. Gardner is just one of thousands of such thugs now in positions of power in Democrat-controlled cities all over America.

It’s a civil war, folks. It isn’t a shooting civil war yet, but don’t think they won’t go there to achieve their ultimate goal of destroying our Republic.

Pay attention.

New Yorkers Suffer Today From Wounds Inflicted by de Blasio and Cuomo

Today’s Campaign Update (Because the Campaign Never Ends)

I’m going to preface this by saying that I love New York City and the people there. My wife and I have visited there upwards of 20 times over the past decade, and have twice taken our entire family with us for Christmas vacations. We are huge theater fans, love the Broadway scene, the museums, the parks and the general busy-ness there. We have never had anything but positive experiences there and look forward to going back whenever life gets back to some semblance of normalcy.

But there’s the deal: New York City and New York State are saddled with horrific leaders. Just plain awful, uncaring and out of touch individuals who lack the first idea of how to behave in a crisis like this one. Mayor Bill de Blasio is a committed Marxist clown who might as well wear a red nose and gigantic clown shoes to work. His utter fecklessness during February and early March is basically the reason why his city is the epicenter of this epidemic in America today.

He was all over television during those weeks telling New Yorkers to live life as normal, ignoring the advisories issued by the CDC and the White House Coronavirus Task Force, and even allowing a massive Chinese New Year celebration to be held in February. As the very, very, very liberal New York Magazine pointed out in a devastating piece on the Mayor this week, as late as March 10, de Blasio was pretending life could just go on as normal for most New Yorkers:

“For the vast majority of New Yorkers, life is going on pretty normally right now,” Bill de Blasio said on Morning Joe March 10, as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. topped 1,000. “We want to encourage that.” He added that there was a “misperception” that the disease “hangs in the air waiting to catch you. No, it takes direct person-to-person contact.”

He pledged to keep schools open, even if someone at any given school was found to have contracted the disease, saying that they would take a day to isolate the sick and clean the school before getting it back up and running. “If you’re under 50 and you’re healthy, which is most New Yorkers, there’s very little threat here.”

Those remarks came at a time when the CDC/Task Force were telling people of all ages to stay at home and only venture out to get groceries and other necessities. School districts all over the country were beginning to shut down, and governors were at the time getting ready to issue orders that all non-essential businesses be closed. The Mayor continued to hold out on cancelling the city’s huge St. Patrick’s day parade, waiting until March 13 to finally relent.

Perhaps in part due to de Blasio’s lackadaisical attitude, many New Yorkers continue to lack a basic understanding of the crisis their city is facing. Check out this scene from a park in Queens from Saturday:

I love New York and want to go back, but the longer this behavior continues, the longer it will be before anything goes back to normal.

Governor Andrew Cuomo isn’t helping in this regard, either. He’s getting rave reviews from the corrupt news media for his “leadership” since he’s a Democrat, even to the point of being talked up as a potential replacement for the elderly, clearly impaired Joe Biden when the time comes to toss him over the side. To his credit, the Governor is adept at holding a daily press conference, but other than that, what has he really done?

He spent a solid week pointing fingers at the federal government for his state’s shortage of ventilators, but we found out that he had refused to stock up on ventilators in 2015 when his health officials recommended he purchase 16,000 of them. As President Trump pointed out in an interview:

“He had a chance to buy in 2015 16,000 ventilators at a very low price, and he turned it down. I’m not blaming him or anything else. But he shouldn’t be talking about us. He’s supposed to be buying his own ventilators. We are going to help,” the president said.

That was last week. This week, after FEMA had delivered a total of 8,000 of the things to New York City, we discovered they were just sitting in a warehouse days later, unpackaged, undistributed and unused. Shortly after photos of the thousands of ventilators appeared in the press, the Governor finally sent in crews to move them…somewhere. No one really knows.

Cuomo’s response when asked about these thousands of unused ventilators was classic Cuomo BS:

“Yes, they’re in a stockpile because that’s where they are supposed to be, because we don’t need them yet,” Cuomo said. “We need them for the apex, the apex isn’t here, so we’re gathering them in a stockpile.”

Cuomo’s comments demonstrate there is not an immediate shortage in ventilators in the city, despite alarming reports.

“We don’t need them today, because we’re not at capacity today, that’s why they’re not deployed because they’re not needed,” Cuomo said.

So, you spend weeks bitching about a supposed shortage of ventilators – a shortage Cuomo created himself with stupid decision-making 5 years ago – and then, when they are delivered, you let them sit in a warehouse because you really didn’t need them at the time you were complaining, and might not ever need them at all.

This is appalling.

Throughout all of this time, tens of thousands of New York citizens have, thanks to the complete inaction of Governor Cuomo to implement a travel ban from the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, been traveling to Florida and other states, very likely helping to further spread the virus. The problem has become so bad that Governors in several states, including Florida and Rhode Island, have issued mandatory 14-day quarantines of anyone coming into their states from New York, and have even begun turning cars with New York license plates on them away at the state borders.

Cuomo’s response? Last night, he threatened to sue Rhode Island if that state doesn’t relent and allow New Yorkers to keep spreading the virus. I swear I do not make this stuff up:

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is threatening to sue Rhode Island over its new coronavirus policy that calls for police to stop cars with New York license plates and has seen National Guard members go door-to-door to ask if anyone has arrived from the Empire State.

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo — like Cuomo, a Democrat — announced the drastic new policies last week to limit the spread of the coronavirus. New York is the epicenter of the outbreak in the U.S., confirming more than 52,000 cases of COVID-19 and recording more than 700 deaths.

“I understand the goal … but there’s a point of absurdity, and I think what Rhode Island did is at that point of absurdity,” said Cuomo. “We have to keep the ideas and the policies we implement positive rather than reactionary and emotional.”

But that’s not all. When President Donald Trump casually told reporters Saturday morning that he and the Task Force were “considering” a quarantine of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, Cuomo responded thusly:

“This is a civil war kind of discussion,” he said of the proposal while doubting that Trump was seriously considering it as an option. “I don’t believe that any administration could be serious about physical lockdowns of states.”

Yes, friends, the man whose utter lack of leadership helped to create the problem considers federal deliberations over how to deal with his own ineptitude to be some sort of act of war.

This is leadership, New York style, and as of today it is a severe problem not just for New Yorkers, but for the entire country.

That is all.

Ralph Northam’s Despicable Effort to Create Another Charlottesville

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

WINNING. Sooooooo much WINNING. – Here’s what is funny about this: I’ve actually had complaints this week that I’ve been focusing too much on all the WINNING President Trump is bringing to our country. So, some people who claim to be fans of President Trump actually are getting tired of all this WINNING. Once again, Trump was right when he said “We will WIN so much, you’ll get tired of all the WINNING.”  You can’t make this stuff up.

One more time, every major U.S. stock market index closed at record high levels as investors express their enthusiasm over the President’s Phase I Trade Agreement with China and congress’s final passage of the USMCA. Despite all the false criticism emanating from the corrupt national news media, the markets understand how these trade deals with America’s three largest trading partners will positively impact this country’s economy for years to come.

So, suck it, all you fake, corrupt journalists and contributors at CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times and the Washington Post. Your efforts, in concert with the Democrat Party, to talk this country into an economic recession that began last summer have, like everything else you have tried to harm this President and what he is accomplishing for America, miserably failed. That could not possibly happen to a nicer bunch of evil minions.

Meanwhile, out in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Governor Baby Killer Blackface KKK Ralph Northam thinks creating a mere recession is just small potatoes. – Northam, along with this Democrat majority in the state assembly, is apparently intent on planting the seeds for a second civil war. That appears to be the only rational interpretation of the moves and public statements Governor Northam and fellow Virginia Democrats have been making in recent weeks.

As the Democrats in the assembly advance a series of gun control bills , assembly members and  Northam himself have promised they will result in law enforcement going door to door if necessary to confiscate certain kinds of guns from ordinary citizens. Gun rights groups have very predictably responded by organizing a massive rally in support of the 2nd Amendment to take place in the state capital of Richmond this weekend. The rally will be held Monday as a part of the Virginia Civil Defense League’s (VCDL) annual lobby day.

Governor Northam has reacted harshly – again, very predictably – to the rally, declaring a state of emergency based on only the vaguest of pretenses.

Here’s the text of his declaration:

Credible intelligence gathered by Virginia’s law enforcement agencies indicates that tens of thousands of advocates plan to converge on Capitol Square for events culminating on January 20, 2020. Available information suggests that a substantial number of these demonstrators are expected to come from outside the Commonwealth, may be armed, and have as their purpose not peaceful assembly but violence, rioting, and insurrection.”

Have you ever seen so many weasel words crammed into just two sentences?

“Credible intelligence” and “available information” you say? What in the hell does that even mean? And “plan to converge on Capitol Square”? How did you know that? Why, could it be because the VCDL properly applied for a lawful permit to use that public space? You know, like a group of good, law-abiding American citizens, i.e., not Antifa, might do?

And what is a “substantial number” in your mind, Governor? Is it 1,000? 100? 10?

Democrats like Northam never complain when people come from out of state to join in liberal protest marches, or hell, even to vote illegally in their elections. Just so long as they vote Democrat, right? Right.

Clearly, Governor Blackface and his friends in the corrupt news media are attempting to set the narrative for Sunday’s rally as being the sequel to the 2017 Charlottesville fiasco, when a couple of dozen bad actors provided the pretense for the media to smear thousands attending an otherwise peaceful rally as being “white supremacists.” This is how every rally-goer on Sunday will also be portrayed if the media can find one clown wearing a confederate flag patch on his jacket or forming his fingers into what used to be the “ok” sign. So, expect that to happen.

Regardless of what really takes place in Richmond this weekend, Governor KKK will without any question at all attempt to spin it as a rationale to continue pushing for his gun control/confiscation legislation. But he and his fellow Democrats have a real, sticky problem in seeing this effort through to its logical conclusion.

That problem centers on the reality that Virginia is a mostly-rural state. Once you get out of the isolated population centers of Richmond, Arlington and Alexandria, the rest of Virginia is as red as red can be. The state’s 2016 election map looks like a miniature microcosm of the national map, with small islands of blue interspersed amidst a sea of red:

Trump Scrambles Open Race for Virginia Governor

Prior to 2009, Virginia actually was a fairly reliable state for Republicans. But that has all changed with eight years of America’s Biggest Mistake, Barack Obama, and the massive expansion of the D.C.-based federal bureaucracy he inflicted on the nation. Even with Obama’s rapid raising of federal salaries, real estate in the District of Columbia remained too expensive for most bureaucrats, so tens of thousands of them settled across the Potomac in Arlington and Alexandria.

Given that well over 90% of federal bureaucrats are Democrats by nature, that massive emigration of the bureaucracy into Virginia ended up shifting the state’s politics.

Very predictably, those red, rural counties have taken exception to the Democrats’ looming gun grab. At last count, 105 counties and cities in Virginia have now taken the step of declaring themselves second amendment sanctuaries, with local officials promising to defy any efforts by the state government to confiscate firearms within their jurisdictions.

Should Governor Northam and his Democrat minions end up enacting these gun control bills and follow them through to their logical conclusion, many Virginia gun owners will not go quietly, and the country could find itself in a real constitutional crisis. Unless the Democrats begin to moderate what they are doing, they might be sowing the seeds for a second civil war in this country.

Sadly, Governor Northam seems by his actions and words to be perfectly fine with, and maybe even intent on, doing exactly that.

That is all.

The Media Narrative Is Dead! Long Live The New Narrative!

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • Just because Russia Collusion is dead doesn’t mean you’re not still being brainwashed. – So, the whole Russia Collusion fantasy play has cratered.  No one was buying it, investigations by half a dozen congressional committees and a special counsel haven’t been able to come up with any real evidence for it, and the public didn’t care.  Thus, as soon as Imran Awan, the Pakistani “IT expert” who was paid millions of dollars by dozens of congressional Democrats over a decade to perform duties they cannot explain, was arrested while trying to flee the country, the fake news media and their Democrat clients dropped Russia Collusion like a hot potato and staged a riot in Charlottesville – a riot we now know was organized on both sides by Barack Obama disciples – so the narrative could shift to ‘President Trump’s a racist!!!!!!’
  • That narrative has lasted for all of two weeks, but now that it has become obvious that the vast majority of Americans are opposed to the media/Democrat tactic of trying to tie statues of confederate leaders who fought a war 152 years ago to the racial views of the current President, the media/Democrat axis of sedition are moving the narrative again.
  • The new narrative that you are being brainwashed to believe is what we’ll call the 25th Amendment narrative.  That narrative will attempt to convince a critical mass of Americans that President Trump is crazy – “unhinged” was the favorite term used by pretty much every TV talking head outside of Fox News on Tuesday – and thus, must be removed from office and replaced by Vice President Mike Pence under the terms of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution.
  • Thus it was that on Tuesday, after the President had made a nationally televised speech on Afghanistan that scored incredibly well in snap polls and focus groups, the fake editors and reporters at the NYTimes trotted out a story filled with unsourced quotes from anonymous “sources” who claim that Mitch McConnell is now whispering to confidants that President Trump must be impeached.
  • And thus it was that, following the President’s bombastic rally speech in Phoenix – related to which it was clear that the only “unhinged” participants were the leftist protesters who were paid to be there by Democrat-supported organizers – both CNN and MSNBC followed with panels filled with leftist talking heads who chanted “unhinged” at every opportunity.  CNN even went so far as to trot out serial perjurer and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to sagely pronounce the President “unfit to hold the office.”  Hey, at least he didn’t say “unhinged” – a little variety in wording is a good tactic for trying to fool viewers that you aren’t just sitting there parroting DNC talking points.
  • So this is the new focus, and it will become ubiquitous for awhile, until the fake media/Democrats figure out that isn’t going to work, either.  Then they’ll move onto some other narrative, and will keep doing so until a) Donald Trump has served out his two full terms in office, or b) they succeed in creating a second U.S. Civil War, which of course is their goal.
  • Nothing says “unhinged” like denying work to an Asian guy because his name is Robert Lee. – Yes, that just happened.  The leftist nitwits who, like a colony of termites have infested ESPN over the past decade, actually did announce that they were denying Mr. Lee his gig as play-by-play announcer for the University of Virginia’s season opening football game because his name is the same as the Confederate general, Robert E. Lee.  ESPN’s leadership made that announcement proudly, obviously in  the belief that they are just the bestest people in the world for being so “sensitive” and for not wanting to trigger all the snowflake students at UVA, who, after all, might well otherwise think that their football game was being called by a 200 year-old leader of the South.  Breathtaking.
  • But it gets even better. – A Catholic priest in Arlington, Virginia has been suspended from his job after it was revealed that he was a member of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1980s.  My goodness.  Obviously, this priest is not a Democrat, because if he were, he’d be lionized by the Clintons and Obamas and the CNNs and the NYTimes as a hero, as former Grand Kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan Robert Byrd was during his 40 years in the United States Senate.

Just another day in constantly shifting narrative America.

That is all.

If We Don’t Get Over The First Civil War We Might Have A Second

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • When the news came out that a Civil War reenactment scheduled to take place at the Manassas battlefield in Virginia  was being cancelled due to fears over possible violence from leftwing groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter, I saw a tweet from some guy saying something to the effect that “The Civil War was 152 years ago – why can’t black people just get over it?”
  • Now, I’m a conservative and I’m pretty sure I had ancestors who fought for the South in the Civil War, since both sides of my family came into this country in the late 18th/early 19th centuries through North Carolina, but I found that tweet quite offensive, and can only imagine how offensive any descendant of slaves might find it.  But we see that argument expressed quite often by those who, for whatever reason, feel the need to continue reenacting Civil War battles, flying the stars and bars out in front of their house, and defending the need to keep statues of Jefferson Davis on some university campus or on the grounds of some other public building.
  • I often wonder if these folks ever consider the other side of that same argument, which is this:  “The Civil War ended 152 years ago – why can’t confederacy defenders just get over it?”  Seriously, think about it:  isn’t 152 years long enough to honor the leaders of what was in fact an armed rebellion against the United States of America?  Does it really take more than the six or seven generations that have passed through your families since 1865 to get those resentments out of your blood?
  • Seriously, take a step back for just a minute and think:  Does it really matter to your life if that statue of Jefferson Davis or Robert E. Lee keeps standing out in front of your local courthouse?  Have you ever stopped to think about how it must feel to descendants of slaves who surely live in your community to walk by that statue knowing that their tax dollars help pay for its upkeep and public display?
  • And please, don’t give me that crap about the Civil War not being about preservation of slavery.  If you’re one of the people who uses that line, I want to personally challenge you to take a few hours out of your day to read each state’s articles of confederation.  If you do that, you will find that all 11 confederate states listed the preservation of slavery as a reason for their decision, and 9 of the 11 states listed it as the first reason.  Save that argument for someone else.
  • Then there’s the argument about “we have to preserve our history!”, and with that one, I’m in full agreement.  But keeping a statue of Stonewall Jackson out on the courthouse lawn for 120 years doesn’t really teach anyone anything about history, does it?  Not without the provision of context.
  • Our biggest problem in the current hysteria from the political left over these monument is that we now have two full generations of young people who haven’t been given any real context about any of this in our schools and universities.  The teaching of civics and American History was de-emphasized during the ’70s and ’80s, after the radicals of the ’60s came to dominate our education system, in favor of indoctrinating our children with all sorts of leftwing nonsense.
  • Unless they took American history or civics as an elective, the only thing anyone under 40 or so has ever been taught about Robert E. Lee or Stonewall Jackson is what they get from the news media, and the only message they get from the news media is that they were eeeeevil, which of course is not true.  They were just men, products of their time and place, doing what they believed to be their civic duty.  But the public lacks that context – all they have in their minds is that simplistic notion they’ve learned from the media.  And so, when  they walk past these statues they have an emotional reaction, because they have no understanding whatsoever of who those men really were and the things they did with their lives outside of the few years of the War.
  • It seems to me that the biggest problem about this entire controversy is that both sides are reacting out of emotion and ignorance.  How can we expect to be a unified nation if so many of our citizens know next-to-nothing about what this nation even is?
  • In all of this controversy, there is an opportunity here for President Trump to take initiative to prove he is a different kind of leader.  A good approach to helping the nation heal would be for Republicans and Democrats to work together to remove all Civil War-related statues – Union and Confederacy alike – from taxpayer-funded public places in an organized, systematic way, and establish a series of Civil War museums around the country where they could reside.  Perhaps establish a bi-partisan commission to then develop a curriculum to be taught in guided tours through these museums that would actually educate attendees and provide context for the people depicted in the statues.  Seems to me this could become a centerpiece of the President’s Infrastructure proposal.
  • I know that’s a pipe dream, since the Democrats seem to be hell-bent on continuing to divide this country along racial lines, but I keep hoping they might wake up sometime soon and realize this is a huge loser of an issue for them.  Every poll taken on this question proves that to be the case.
  • Regardless, this would be a constructive approach for President Trump and his Education and Interior Departments to take to the matter.  Take the initiative here, Mr. President, and demand the Democrats explain why they refuse to work towards a peaceful solution to such a divisive issue.  Provide the public with some context here, both politically and historically.
  • Because, if we can’t get over the first Civil War, we are on a collision course with a second.

Just another day in lack of context America.

That is all.
