The King of Fake News is Dead – Long Live the New King!

Today’s Campaign Update
(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

[Note: The Campaign Update will appear later than normal over the next four days.]

Man, you gotta hand it to the news fakers over at the fake news site Buzzfeed (even its name screams out “fake news!”, doesn’t it?) .  After all, how many news outlets can brag that they have out-faked CNN and the New York Times when it comes to reporting about President Donald Trump?

After Thursday and Friday, when it first fake-reported a story – based solely on “anonymous sources” of course – claiming that then-Candidate Donald Trump ordered his crooked ex-attorney Michael Cohen to lie to the Special Counsel’s investigators about a planned real estate development in Moscow, and then was smacked down by Robert Mueller’s own spokesman in a statement disputing the tale, Buzzfeed is truly in a class of its own, now claiming the title atop the smelly, putrid fake news heap.  I’m sure they’re proud.

To those who, like yours truly,  have been chronicling the grand pantheon of fake-newsery as it relates to Donald Trump from the beginning in mid-2015, the story had the stench of fake news slopped all over it. It had all the usual earmarks – vague “statements” (some of which were no doubt made up out of whole cloth by the writers) from “sources” who may or may not even exist, turned into definitive allegations by creative authors and editors, allegations that, if true, would mean that Trump – who any rational person understands is an incredibly intelligent individual – would have to be an abject idiot, all centered around the alleged bleatings of Cohen, who will obviously say anything to save his skin, as Mueller’s office has repeatedly admitted.

It was a story so un-founded in its origins, so transparently written to alarm, so fantasy-based in its narrative that only the mentally-deranged or politically-jaundiced would give it the time of day.  Thus, of course, the entirety of the fake news universe spent 24 full hours talking about pretty much nothing else.

That included the news fakers at CNN, who will now be desperate to once again prove their mettle as the kings and queens and little fat bald-headed creeps of news-fakery, and regain their rightful place atop the heap. No doubt, they will succeed with an even more deranged bit of fake newsery soon, because, as we have learned a thousand times since Donald Trump, accompanied by his wife Melania, rode down that escalator in Trump Tower to announce his candidacy, no fake news outlet, whether print or web-based, radio or television, can compete with CNN in either the quality or quantity – or indeed, the sheer bald-faced audacity – of abject fake news spilled out into the public domain each and every day.

The news fakers at Buzzfeed should enjoy their moment in the fake news sun for all its worth, because the odds are they won’t retain it for long.

Will it be the Art of the Deal, or the start of the fail? – Speaking of President Trump, he will be making a major announcement on the border crisis this afternoon from the Oval Office, and depending on which fake news media reports you’re inclined to believe, he could either be about to score a big win in the border fight, or put himself on a path to lose his re-election bid in 2020.

If you believe the Associated Press – which is admittedly a fool’s errand most of the time these days – then the President is about to announce a deal in which he gets somewhere between a billion and 1.5 billion dollars for “border security enhancements” in the form of additional Border Patrol agents, border judges and advanced technology tool, but no money for a wall.

On the other hand, if you believe the Dallas Morning News, he may be about to announce a deal in which he gets his requested wall money in exchange for a path to citizenship for the so-called “Dreamers” who have been the center of immigration-related wrangling in Washington for two years now.

If the Morning News is right, then Trump will have scored a huge win from every standpoint. He gets his wall money and follows through on a humanitarian gesture he has vocally supported since the day he took office. Yes, Ann Coulter and other hard core anti-immigration advocates will scream about it, but that particular deal would be hugely popular with most of Trump’s base and with independents.

If the AP is right, then the President will have been talked into a deal that greatly harms his chances for re-election in 2020.  Building a border wall was perhaps the premier centerpiece of his 2016 campaign, the promise he made more often and more vocally than any other. Settling for a deal that give him nothing to advance that promise would be the worst option he could possibly take here.

Today is a fateful day, folks. Pay attention, because it is probably one we will remember for many years to come.

That is all.

President Trump Tweets, Mexico Blinks, Media Narrative Stinks

The Evening Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

After spending the last several days reporting that a large caravan of Honduran immigrants was traversing the length of Mexico in a quest to enter the U.S. illegally, the mainstream fake news media is now shifting gears to create a legend that the gang of illegal immigrants was never really headed for America at all.

Color me shocked.

This emergency change in fake news narrative comes after the Mexican government – obviously responding to warnings issued since Saturday by President Donald Trump – halted the procession of illegals in the state of Oaxaca, south of Mexico City, and began processing them through its own immigration laws.  Mexican officials denied that their action had anything to do with Trump’s threats to modify U.S. participation in NAFTA should the caravan continue to the U.S. border, but those denials ring hollow given that the procession had traversed the southern half of Mexico unimpeded until Monday’s sudden decision to bring it to a stop.

So, given that the overarching media/Democrat narrative demands that President Trump must never be credited with any positive outcome for America, all the fake reporters and editors have unified around the new tall tale.  The caravan’s organizers, however, keep letting the cat out of the bag.

Consistent with the new narrative, ABC’s Tuesday report on the matter hilariously stated that “Bogged down by logistical problems, large numbers of children and fears about people getting sick, the caravan was always meant to draw attention to the plight of migrants and was never equipped to march all the way to the U.S. border.”

This new fake media narrative flies in the face of earlier media reports of the procession, such as Buzzfeed’s coverage from March 31, which said in part, “Organized by a group of volunteers called Pueblos Sin Fronteras, or People Without Borders, the caravan is intended to help migrants safely reach the United States, bypassing not only authorities who would seek to deport them, but gangs and cartels who are known to assault vulnerable migrants.”

Obviously, before the President started tweeting about this caravan, there was no question about its ultimate intentions.  Which is not surprising, given that it is in fact an event that has been organized annually by Pueblos Sin Fronteras in recent years, always with the goal of reaching the U.S., a goal that was actively encouraged by the Obama Administration.  (Many readers will in fact remember media reports during the 2014-16 time frame of U.S. government officials actually helping to train the aspiring illegal immigrants on how to communicate with reporters and U.S. immigration officials once they reached the U.S. border.)

And don’t kid yourselves into thinking that this action by the Mexican government means the current caravan has actually come to an end.  As Buzzfeed’s Adolfo Flores is reporting today, many of the participants plan to continue on:

“At the end of the day these people have the right to ask for asylum,” said Gina Garibo, one of the organizers for Pueblos Sin Fronteras, the volunteer group that organized the caravan.

She denied the caravan was over. “We have to follow through with our promise” to help people gain asylum in the United States or Mexico, she said. Migrants would continue moving but in smaller groups than the caravan.

President Trump obviously recognizes this reality and promised at a Tuesday press availability to use the U.S. military to police the border:  “Until we can have a wall and proper security, we are going to be guarding our border with the military. That’s a big step,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

I pointed out in yesterday’s Daily Campaign Update that Mr. Trump was, with his Twitter activity on this issue, laying the groundwork for some form of executive action on border security.  Today, we see the manifestation of the first step towards that goal.  No one should assume it will be the last, just as no one should assume the current caravan has actually come to an end.

It’s a safe bet the fake news media will be forced to shift its narrative again before this is all over.

What’s the Over/Under Line on How Many Days Scott Israel Has Left in Office?

The Evening Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

You keep saying that word.  I don’t think it means what you think it does. – Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told CNN’s Jake Tapper that he has given “amazing leadership” to the County during his time as Sheriff.  In other news, the folks at Taco Bell bragged that they have given “amazing fine dining” to the American public, Harvey Weinstein bragged that he has given “amazing respect” to every woman he has ever met, and Hillary Clinton said that she exhibited “amazing stewardship” over her illegal email server while she was Secretary of State.  Holy cow.

Tapper is being widely praised for his fairly tough treatment of the dissembling Sheriff in Sunday morning’s interview, but let’s don’t go overboard here.  Tapper, after all, is the very same fake host who stood silently by during Wednesday evening’s disgraceful townhall and allowed NRA Spokesperson Dana Loesch be called a baby killer and repeatedly accosted with death threats from the audience, and allowed one kid to accuse Senator Marco Rubio to the killer himself without comment.  So Jake has an awful lot of making up to do for that huge fiasco.

But this is CNN, after all, and as if to make up for Tapper’s sudden attack of momentary objectivity, the dimwitted Brian Stelter did his best to satisfy his Democrat masters by allowing student David Hogg – who has obviously been co-opted by the Democrats and is being fed talking points – to say of Ms. Loesch “She owns these congressmen. She can get them to do things. It’s just she doesn’t care about these children’s lives.”  Neither Stelter nor the all-time fake news king Dan Rather, who was sitting next to the kid, said anything to correct the blatant libel coming from Mr. Hogg’s always-running mouth.

While Israel has denied that his department responded to an astonishing 39 calls to the Parkland school shooter’s home in recent years – claiming the number was “just” 23, as if that makes it all better – Buzzfeed now reports that its research indicates the correct number is an even more mind-numbing 45 calls, about which the Broward County Sheriff’s department did nothing.  Zip.  Nada.  That’s pretty “amazing” all right, Sheriff.

In that same interview, Tapper asked the Sheriff when it was that he found out that several of his deputies were on the scene while the killings were taking place, and did nothing to intervene.  Israel’s answer?  “Days” later.  When asked how many days later, Israel said he wasn’t sure.  Yep, that’s pretty “amazing” leadership right there.

In all seriousness, how much worse does this have to get before the people of Broward County storm the the county offices and demand Sheriff Israel’s resignation?  While they’re at it, they might want to start up a recall petition for every member of the school board as well, since, as I pointed out in yesterday’s Campaign Update, the utter and complete failure of local law enforcement in this case is not due to incompetence, but rather due to a conscious policy decision to stop enforcing the laws where school students are concerned in order to improve statistics that determine the level of federal and state funding.

Such a sad situation all around, made infinitely worse by the dishonest ghouls at CNN.

That is all.
