Portland Business Leader Slams Mayor Ted Wheeler for Lack of Leadership and Pride

In a letter that is belatedly making the rounds on social media today, Portland businessman Greg Goodman, co-President of the city’s Downtown Development Group, sent a letter last week to communist Democrat Mayor Ted Wheeler and the communists who dominate the city council.

In the letter, Goodman details the decisions by many businesses to abandon the city, and slams the corrupt politicians for their support of the 97 nights of rioting in the city, for their failure to ensure basic safety, cleanliness and public order, and urges them to take responsibility and to “show some pride” in their city.

Here is the full text of the letter, as reported by KXLY in Spokane, Washington:

Dear Mayor Wheeler and city council members;

I have attached an article from a recent Business Journal relating to Standard Insurance, the largest private business in downtown Portland, moving their employees to their Hillsboro campus for safety reasons. A larger number of businesses are moving out of or locating outside of the Central City. These companies include, Daimler Chrysler (subleasing 100k SF), Air B&B, Banana Republic, Microsoft (80k SF, plus permanently closing their retail store), Saucebox, etc. Google, who leased 90k SF in the Macy’s building has stopped construction of their improvements. The list goes on and on. If you know a retail or office broker, give them a call and ask them how many clients they have are trying to leave. The number is like nothing I have seen in 42 years of doing business in downtown.

Their departure has absolutely nothing to do with Black Life’s Matter movement (which has been a positive) but does have most everything to do with the lawlessness you are endorsing downtown. You are doing an excellent of enabling people who don’t know or care about George Floyd to ransack our city at the expense of the people you are trying to help. Think how many jobs have been lost by people of color in our city, not through protest, but from vandalism. I would make the case that your actions have hurt those you have intended to help.

I would encourage each of you to walk around downtown Portland in the morning. Name the time and I will give you a tour. You aren’t sweeping the streets, needles are all over the place, garbage cans are broken and left open, glass from car windows that have been broken out is all over the streets, parks are strewn with litter (their fountains turned off) weeds are taller than the plants in the planter boxes, graffiti is on sculptures, etc. You are willfully neglecting your duties as elected officials to keep our city safe and clean.

What outreach have you had to small business and retailers to tell them that you have their backs and are going to help them. Your actions, or lack thereof, have been to the contrary. You have shown them you don’t care and as a result a huge number of innocent and hardworking people have been victimized with some being placed on the street.

I suggest all of you walk downtown and when you see a shop or business that is open and not boarded up, stop in and talk to the owner or worker. Hear what they have to say. Ask what you can do for them. Let them know you care. As importantly, get going on cleaning things up. Get the streets swept, double down on sidewalk washing and cleaning, replace the burnt-out newspaper boxes, paint the light standards, get the parks in order, etc.

Most importantly, show some pride. Own the situation and make it better. If you lead, others will follow. They just want to know you care and are doing something about it. Let them know we will get through this together and this is how the city is going to lead.

Thanks for your consideration of my comments. Let me know how I can partner in your efforts.

Greg

Well theres a somewhat naive person asking the communists to have some ‘pride’ in their community and to clean things up, restore order… lol… No wonder these stoooopid people keep voting in communists.

That’s the infamous “friendly Portlander” for you. They think that being civilized and polite will get the job done and that their elected officials will do what’s right. Naive to a fault. I would venture to say they are like the Lotus eaters, lost in a dreamworld. What will wake them up, I don’t know. They may well watch the city crumble before their eyes before they do.

Wheeler is full of himself, as are all demoncrats. He’s already told the world he’d rather blame Trump and let the city burn before doing what he was elected to do. He will rue the day he wrote that venomous letter. Eventually somebody will find an attorney willing to sue him for malfeasance of office and aiding and abetting murder.

Business owner? Capitalist pig construct of the white male patriarchy.
    Private property is for fascists.
Forward! Yes we can…burn it all down.

Black Lives Matter is a Marxist organization dedicated to the overthrow of the United States Government. Antifa has the same goal. Both groups are terrorists and need to be treated as such. /

Any mayor who supports a gang of terrorists as they raze his or her city obviously lacks leadership skills. Why no recall!?

My response to Brian should answer your question. I lived there so I have a fairly good understanding of the city and it’s citizens.

    The quintessential naval gazer.

Gutless do nothing feckless jerk who sees a problem but does nothing to ever solve it.

Asking Wheeler to take a downtown tour of his city to see the problem is like asking Hitler to tour the problem at Auschwitz.

The letter-writer gave support to BLM – an unnecessary pander. BLM is Marxist, not having anything to do with actual black lives. BLM has nothing worthwhile to say, and represents Communism. Period.

If I were a business owner who is renting and my landlord does nothing to protect my goods and services with private security, I’d break the lease and move to a civil part of the state or to another state; if I owned the property and was burned out and was insured, I would never, ever, consider rebuilding there. Take the money, run – and build elsewhere! Or retire to some place with respect for human rights.

The fleeing from crime and pestilence will be yuge! Downtown Portland was nearing life support status for some time. Now it’s inevitable.

Portland: Soon to be the Baltimore of Oregon

Good Job Mayor Ted Wheeler and Governor Kate Brown. Shame neither of these two ‘public servants’ are up for reelection this year.

Just heard that Gov Inslee of Washington has refused to debate his GOP opponent.

This is setting the stage for joe btfsplk to chicken out of debating President Trump. Look for other Dem cowards to chicken out of their debates to build the anti-debate narrative.

This would be a risky move, but if btfsplk’s handlers refuse to debate, Trump should offer his tax return in exchange for the traditional three live in person debates on his terms with real apolitical moderators.

What I would really like to see in all debates is just have an uninterrupted two hour discussion on the issues between the candidates. The first one could be on domestic issues, the second one could be on foreign policy and the third one could be each candidate’s vision or goals for the next four years in a point/counter-point format.

Joe wouldn’t be able to last 20 minutes before he went off the tracks. There will be no debates.

Going back to Larry Schweikart’s article a couple of days ago about the gaslighting of people by the ‘news’ reporting speculation as news.

Virtually everything we have been told about the China Virus by the WHO, the CDC, “doctor” Fluki and the Scarf Queen, has been mealy-mouthed Bull-Schiff meant to obfuscate, confuse and spread fear to everyone. It was designed to damage America, her economy, and, by extension President Trump AND take away our freedom and liberty. Remember that ‘comic’ and noted political scholar Bill Mahar said there needed to be a depression to beat Trump.

I’m sure the CDC induced economic downturn and health panic was just a coincidence; the grossly flawed ‘models’ were just a mistake, and we should all go back to believing the ‘scientists and government doctors like Fluki. Because what they say is gospel based on irrefutable “scientific” evidence – actual and empirical data be damned.

So now we know from numerous reports that the CV-19 ‘cases’ (which were designed to scare people by implying that if they got the virus, they were absolutely going to DIE) were wildly fraudulent and always to the negative way – again, I’m sure it was all just a coincidence, an innocent mistake…

Now stories (link below) have surfaced that our favorite and most apolitical and trusted federal health agency has (shush, keep it quiet), with little fanfare, posted that only 6% (less than ten thousand) of the deaths are directly attributed exclusively CV-19; the remaining 94% had, on average, 2.6 other major health issues.

And when President Trump tweeted this REAL NEWS, Jack Dorsey’s Twitter company blocked it. That is fine Jack, you are just giving the Trump Administration more reason and ammo to BUST UP YOUR TWITTER SEWER along with Zuckerberg’s Facebook and what ever commie runs Google and all the other social media giants. Keep shadowing banning and censoring conservatives guys; Trump has forced you guys and the traditional media, along with the radicals who actually run the Democratic Party out of the closet.

Just think about this: With all the thousands of stories and mainly fabricated reports about dire CV-19 supposedly is, wouldn’t a logical person think that maybe REPORTING THE ACTUAL DEAT NUMBERS would be NEWS!!! Good news that we could use.

Where is Fluki and Brix on wall to wall TV reporting the real news? Hmmm???

If nothing else, that shows the real agenda of these two hack “doctors” at the CDC.

Trump is giving them all the rope they need to hang themselves. I suspect that the post election cleansing will be spectacular.

As for those worrying about the technocrats meddling, Trump is paying attention and biding his time. It’s all about timing, everything he does is about timing.

This whole long summer has been about the Democrats trying to goad Trump into responding so they could hang it around his neck as a decisive election issue.

He has not taken the bait, not once, and now they are screwed–blamed (correctly) for the riots and violence, and saddled with a nominee that can’t even get through a teleprompter speech with six media lackeys in attendance.
