Sunday News Roundup: Musk’s Finest Hour; Trump’s Finest Speech; Dems’ Worst Riots

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II

Bad timing for the space program. – It had been so long since the U.S. had launched men and women into space that I had forgotten how thrilling it was to watch it happen live. Unfortunately, Saturday’s magnificent, successful launch of the SpaceX Falcoln 9 rocket with two astronauts aboard was overwhelmed by the nationwide riots being promoted by the Democrat Party and its affiliated support groups, Antifa and Black Lives Matter.

From a report at Space.com:

SpaceX founder Elon Musk was choked up with emotion after his company successfully launched astronauts to space for the first time on Saturday (May 30).

“I’m really quite overcome with emotion on this day, so it’s kind of hard to talk, frankly,” Musk said in a post-launch press conference at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida Saturday evening. “It’s been 18 years working towards this goal, so it’s hard to believe that it’s happened.”

Musk’s comments came a few hours after SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from the center’s historic Launch Complex 39A, carrying a Crew Dragon spacecraft with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley on board.

By successfully launching its new Crew Dragon spacecraft with astronauts on board for the first time, SpaceX became the first private company to launch astronauts for NASA.

[End]

It is not surprising that Musk was overwhelmed with emotion – I had tears in my eyes just watching it from home on my TV.  Through the force of his will and perseverance, he has literally dragged America’s manned space program kicking and screaming back to life.

This, not Tesla, is Musk’s greatest achievement.

It also helps to finally have a willing partner in the White House. – After Barack Hussein Obama His Own Self spent the entire 8 years of his presidency using NASA as little more than a platform to promote climate hysteria, President Donald Trump has returned the agency’s focus to its actual mission of exploring space.

The President was on-hand to view the launch, and gave a grand speech afterwards. Unfortunately, it too was lost amid the news coverage of all the rioting taking place in Democrat-controlled cities. This morning, we are hearing calls from those on the left for the President to speak about those Democrat-organized riots. Obviously those issuing these calls missed yesterday’s speech, during which had this to say on that subject:

Before going further on this exciting day for all America in space, I want to say a few words about the situation in Minnesota. The death of George Floyd on the streets of Minneapolis was a grave tragedy. It should never have happened. It has filled Americans all over the country with horror, anger, and grief.

Yesterday, I spoke to George’s family and expressed the sorrow of our entire nation for their loss. I stand before you as a friend and ally to every American seeking justice and peace. And I stand before you in firm opposition to anyone exploiting this tragedy to loot, rob, attack, and menace. Healing, not hatred; justice, not chaos are the mission at hand. (Applause.)

The police officers involved in this incident have been fired from their jobs. One officer has already been arrested and charged with murder. State and federal authorities are carrying out an investigation to see what further charges may be warranted, including against, sadly, the other three.

In addition, my administration has opened a civil rights investigation, and I have asked the Attorney General and the Justice Department to expedite it.

I understand the pain that people are feeling. We support the right of peaceful protesters, and we hear their pleas. But what we are now seeing on the streets of our cities has nothing to do with justice or with peace.

The memory of George Floyd is being dishonored by rioters, looters, and anarchists. The violence and vandalism is being led by Antifa and other radical left-wing groups who are terrorizing the innocent, destroying jobs, hurting businesses, and burning down buildings.

The main victims of this horrible, horrible situations are the citizens who live in these once lovely communities. The mobs are devastating the life’s work of good people and destroying their dreams. Right now, America needs creation, not destruction; cooperation, not contempt; security, not anarchy. And there will be no anarchy. Civilization must be cherished, defended, and protected. The voices of law-abiding citizens must be heard, and heard very loudly.

We cannot and must not allow a small group of criminals and vandals to wreck our cities and lay waste to our communities. We must defend the rights of every citizen to live without violence, prejudice, or fear.

We support the overwhelming majority of police officers who are incredible in every way and devoted public servants. They keep our cities safe, protect our communities from gangs and drugs, and risk their own lives for us every day.

No one is more upset than fellow law enforcement officers by the small handful who fail to abide by their oath to serve and protect. My administration will stop mob violence and will stop it cold.

It does not serve the interests of justice or any citizen of any race, color, or creed for the government to give into anarchy, abandon police precincts, or allow communities to be burned to the ground. It won’t happen.

Those making excuses or justifications for violence are not helping the downtrodden, but delivering new anguish and new pain.

From day one of my administration, we have made it a top priority to build up distressed communities and revitalize our crumbling inner cities.

We fought hard with Senator Tim Scott and many others to create Opportunity Zones, helping to draw a surge of new investment to the places in our country that need it most. We must all work together as a society to expand opportunity and to create a future of greater dignity and promise for all of our people. We must forge a partnership with community leaders, local law enforcement, and the faith community to restore hope.

Radical-left criminals, thugs, and others all throughout our country and throughout the world will not be allowed to set communities ablaze. We won’t let it happen. It harms those who have the least. And we will be protecting those who have the least.

The leadership of the National Guard and the Department of Justice are now in close communication with state and city officials in Minnesota. And we’re coordinating our efforts with local law enforcement all across our nation.

In America, justice is never achieved at the hands of an angry mob. I will not allow angry mobs to dominate. It won’t happen. It is essential that we protect the crown jewel of American democracy: the rule of law and our independent system of justice. Every citizen in every community has the right to be safe in their workplace, safe in their homes, and safe in our city streets.

This is the sacred right of all Americans that I am totally determined to defend and will defend. My administration will always stand against violence, mayhem, and disorder.

We will stand with the family of George Floyd with the peaceful protesters and with every law-abiding citizen who wants decency, civility, safety, and security.

We are working toward a more just society, but that means building up, not tearing down; joining hands, not hurling fists; standing in solidarity, not surrendering to hostility.

[End]

It helps to pay attention, people.

The President isn’t the only one who has addressed the riots. – In case you missed it, Attorney General William Barr also made a forceful statement addressing the Democrat riots in a speech delivered Saturday afternoon:

“The greatness of our nation comes from our commitment to the rule of law.

The outrage of our national community about what happened to George Floyd in Minneapolis is real and legitimate. Accountability for his death must be addressed, and is being addressed, through the regular process of our criminal justice system, both at the state and at the federal level. That system is working and moving at exceptional speed. Already initial charges have been filed. That process continues to move forward. Justice will be served.

Unfortunately, with the rioting that is occurring in many of our cities around the country, the voices of peaceful protest are being hijacked by violent radical elements.

Groups of outside radicals and agitators are exploiting the situation to pursue their own separate and violent agenda.

In many places, it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by anarchistic and far left extremists, using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom travel from out of state to promote the violence.

We must have law and order on our streets and in our communities, and it is the responsibility of the local and state leadership, in the first instance, to halt this violence. The Department of Justice (including the FBI, Marshals, ATF, and DEA), and all of our 93 U.S. Attorneys across the country, will support these local efforts and take all action necessary to enforce federal law.

In that regard, it is a federal crime to cross state lines or to use interstate facilities to incite or participate in violent rioting. We will enforce these laws.” (link)

[End]

Should these men really have to repeat all of this for the benefit of lazy leftist talking heads on cable television? They have more important tasks to address today.

Maybe it’s time for a harder touch, Bill. – On Thursday, worthless Marxist New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters he wanted his police to exercise a “light touch” in dealing with that city’s rioters. He was rewarded yesterday with the burning and destruction of over 40 police vehicles as Antifa/BLM-led rioters ran out of control across Manhattan.

Meanwhile, Biden’s handlers support the domestic terrorist rioters. No fewer than 13 of the elder-abusing staff of the Creepy Uncle Quid Pro China Farty Joe Biden campaign announced on Saturday that they are giving money to a Democrat-created group that is paying to have the domestic terrorist rioters bailed out of jail in Minneapolis so they can go out and foment more rioting.

Do you understand now why I keep telling you that these are Democrat Party riots? How much more proof do you need?

Let’s repeat this one more time in bullet-point format:

  • The riots are clearly being organized by Antifa and BLM;
  • Both Antifa and BLM were created by and function as adjuncts to the Democrat Party;
  • Both Antifa and BLM receive the vast majority of their funding from Democrat/Soros front groups;
  • The riots are taking place in Democrat-controlled cities with Democrat-controlled police forces that refuse to crack down on the rioters in any effective way;
  • The Democrat Mayor of St. Paul told the press on Saturday that EVERY rioter arrested  by his police on Friday night was from out of state – Antifa’s and BLM’s modus operandi;
  • The Democrat Governor of Minnesota told the press on Saturday that he estimates that 80% of the rioters are from out of state – Antifa’s and BLM’s calling card;
  • Now we have Democrats paying to get the rioters released from jail so they can go out and riot some more.

There. Are we clear now?

That is all.

Today’s news moves at a faster pace than ever. Whatfinger.com is my go-to source for keeping up with all the latest events in real time.

    Before I read the rest of the article: you made a comment about a critical and overlooked issue:
    Barack Obeelzebub used NASA to spread crap about “climate change:”

    “Obama His Own Self spent the entire 8 years of his presidency using NASA as little more than a platform to promote climate hysteria.”

    Obumbler also used Intelligence (a word that hardly describes Brennan) and the military, which had a shortage of ammo for training, was reduced to a breeding ground for PC crap like global warming. NASA was just one of the agencies devastated by this foolishness.

    Instead, satellite imagery (from NASA) has shown that carbon dioxide actually increased the growth of plants all across the world. Carbon is good; carbon dioxide is good. We will miss it the day we run out of oil and gas and coal, or no longer use them. That’s when the deserts really begin to spread.

    NASA can only return to its old glory when administrators from Obeelzebub’s club are either retired or fired, and then only in conjunction with private space companies.

      I thought NASA’s mission under Obama was to make the Muslims feel better about their lack of contribution to science for the past 1000 years.

      1. David Blackmon - May 31, 2020

        That, too.

    When the economy comes roaring back, the Left will have to find another George Floyd to disrespect, to use like a worn out, soiled N 95 mask. They keep rolling out one thing after another, having started with “RussiaRussiaRussia” and proceeding with one attack after another.

    The contempt which the Left has for George Floyd, to use him as a filthy wipe rag, is contemptible. He didn’t deserve to die, and he didn’t deserve to be linked to the most despicable people in the world after he died. They have desecrated his corpse.

    Rest in Peace, George.

      These are Marxists, for whom the ends always justify the means.

      One reason to think that there will be a very rapid recovery is that there is tremendous pent-up demand from consumers that have been imprisoned in their homes for months.

      This was not, despite what the media tells you, an economic depression downturn–rather, it is more akin to a natural disaster downturn. The economic fundamentals are still solid, and the consumer demand is the rocket fuel upon which the recovery will ride.

      The timing, I suspect, will be perfectly awful for the Democrats, and they have themselves to blame.

      1. Jimmy MacAfee - May 31, 2020

        In addition to that, there are a lot of people who saved their stimulus funds – savings are actually way up. When people feel comfortable spending, the economy is gonna be Space X.

      2. Gregg - May 31, 2020

        I hope you are right about the pent up demand exploding, but I worry of it not happening to a great degree for several reasons which could mitigate a massive recovery:

        Many were living “paycheck to paycheck” and were/are already maxed out on their credit cards etc., and with no real income for at least a couple of months, may be lucky to keep their homes and businesses. A lot of entertainment venues just won’t be reopened, at least not in a truly profitable sense what with the reduced capacity social distancing ‘orders’ in place. Bars, restaurants, airlines, hotels/motels concerts and sports venues have to be well over 50% capacity to be profitable. And in nearby Nashville, the Dem mayor wants to raise property taxes 32% AND is keeping the city largely shut down. If that is the national template, how can any city recover?

        I see a lot of 1968’s history repeating itself with Trump winning as the law and order president especially if he is able to shut down these riots, but if they continue…, he is the incumbent and they do tend to get blamed if things stay bad and confused.

        My prediction:

        Red states are going to make a good solid recovery which is the best kind. The blue states will stagnate, or get worse. The question is: who will get credit and who will get the blame? One thing is for certain, the Dems will do everything they can to try to hobble the economy and hurt the President and the country for their political gain.

  3. phineas gage - May 31, 2020

    I would be willing to bet that eventually the SpaceX program and Tesla will be seen as twin signature achievements. Tesla is just about to remake the automotive world, and with it change everything else as well. Musk is the combined Henry Ford and Howard Hughes of our time.

    I still think the future of spaceflight will be primarily unmanned robotics, but targeted manned spaceflight such as this will always have an important role.

    An ongoing war (in this case domestic), crazed riots in the streets, remarkable space flight missions, the Democrat Party self-immolating–yep, seems more like 1968 than ever…..

  4. phineas gage - May 31, 2020

    Even though he is a native South African, Musk has that incredible can-do optimistic spirit that I always associate with early to mid twentieth-century America. In that way he is as American as any natural-born citizen. To paraphrase RFK, he dreams of things that never were, and asks why not.

    1. brian - May 31, 2020

      I’m going to venture that most people have this same drive. It was created in us and this is what separates man from animals. What has been done is this dream achieve mentality has been squelched by the marxists and haters of mankind over the last 2 – 300 years. Since the ‘enlightenment’ movement. The enemies of this achieve ideology hate with a passion and want nothing less than to destroy it down to ashes. THIS is what we as God fearing people world over are up against, time to wake up and repair the breach and be watchers on the wall.

  5. phineas gage - May 31, 2020

    The demand for Trump to make a hand-wringing speech is the same as the demand for him to wear a mask. It is a symbol of capitulation to the Left.

    He won’t do it, for which they hate him even more.

    1. Jimmy MacAfee - May 31, 2020

      It’s nice to see them wringing their hands so much, isn’t it? Soon they’ll only have nubs and stumps to rub together.

  6. Gregg - May 31, 2020

    On Whatfinger ‘True Pundit’ has a story about how the MN Gov and others have lied about the majority of the riot arrestees are from out of state. According to FOX 9 in MN 38 out of 45 arrested had MN addresses.

    Essentially that is the opposite ratio (80%) that the governor and others have stated.

    We are now at a point where it is hard to believe anything that is ‘reported’. And IMO, that is by design. Confuse and obfuscate this and almost any issue so that confusion is spread to the max. Confusion also creates fear, anger and frustration.

    It never has made any sense that people would actively look to destroy their own neighborhoods, but clearly there is and has always been a portion of the rioters who live in or near and trash their own places. Obviously the domestic terrorist groups – collectively known as community organizers – are behind the organization and funding of this violent anarchy. What beneficial aspect to ANY community did ‘the One’, Jackson, and Sharpton et al ever accomplish for their “communities” going back to the 1960s? There is not doubt that all this unrest is being fomented by outsiders who recruit the vulnerable to be their foot soldiers and do their dirty work.

    Eventually this war will boil over beyond the cities, especially if the “light touch” tactics of the de Blasios of the country continue to be the way the riots are addressed. Another reason for this pressure cooker is the fact that most politicians generally ignore the real concerns of real, and peaceful, demonstrators which foments hatred and discontent everywhere where no one is happy.

    A couple of weeks ago I wrote about New Jersey’s grassroots (Hands Across New Jersey) protests against Governor Florio and his Democrat controlled legislature thirty years ago. We were peaceful, just like the TEA Party of ten years ago, we were mocked, ignored, and ridiculed by the powers-that-be just like the TEA Party, we were denigrated and marginalized by the press and the media just like the TEA Party. But HANJ and the TEA Party did our protests the right way and got the opponents to our agenda voted out at the next election.

    Sadly and this is where the bubbling caldron of nationwide discontent is really brewing. The Republican replacements in NJ were just a little less worse than Florio and his legislature; Boehner and his GOP house were worse than feckless in dealing with ‘the One’s’ agenda and did virtually nothing to defund Obamacare which they could have done – could have done a lot more to curb his abuses of power through House oversight.

    I’ll give Nancy Pelosi credit on her leadership – she fights like hell to get what she wants. As a house leader she runs rings around the likes of Hastert, Boehner, and Ryan and, horrible as her policies and agendas are, she gets it done mot of the time. Until Trump, no GOP ‘leader’ since Reagan, has done anything of significance to thwart the left – Gingrich’s efforts was largely sabotaged, or lt least marginalized by the establishment senate leader Bob Dole.

    Sooner our later the TEA Party types are going to rebel too. Of course we are going to be called the Neo-Nazi White Supremacist yada, yada, yada, but so what? How may times can someone be called something before it has no effect?

    What will be the right’s trigger? Maybe one or more of the following:

    Eventually the Dem controlled city residents and their ANTIFA/BLM leaders will realize it is counter productive to trash their own hood and will move their lemmings out to suburbia and rural America to really foment a crisis that cannot be allowed to go to waste. Dynamic suburban political leadership isn’t preventing this from happening now; a semi armed suburban citizenry is preventing it.

    Trump gets defeated and/or the GOP loses the senate in an obviously stolen election.

    The Dem president becomes Obama the second and resumes his policies. The people, having tasted real economic and other success under Trump will revolt when even more draconian control measures are taken.

    The Supreme Court and other courts continue to make obviously unconstitutional rulings in support of the Democrat Politician’s laws, rules, executive orders, and edicts,

    The economy goes into the crapper.

    Another Plandemic is foisted upon us and even more mismanaged than CV-19.

    Widespread illegal immigration resumes…

    All these scenarios are possible, if not likely in a Democratic administration in 2021.

    1. brian - May 31, 2020

      There is little, very little, in the media that can be trusted. Its completely designed to do exactly that… confuse and obfuscate. It destroys the ability for people to band together against the real enemy, the communists. Conservative sites like this, where Mr Blackmon, are unabashedly pointing out who the real bad actors are without propaganda spin, is where you will find out what is really happening in the country. Locals are coming out and speaking out about what is happening in their neighbourhoods.in the comments sections.

      Mr Trump needs to drop the hammer… Barr needs to start perp walk’n the antifa/blm thugs for all to see. He needs to announce they are going after the financiers, period. This war will not be won unless the money is choked out, cut off the supply lines. Its a freak’n war.

    2. phineas gage - May 31, 2020

      Sadly, what you describe is likely inevitable. The Tea Party was Americans politely asking the elitists to listen to them. The populist Donald Trump–the ultimate outsider–was the next step. The last step will be outright violence.
