Media Hysteria Notwithstanding, The Real Numbers on COVID-19 Are Actually Encouraging

Listen to the experts, follow the real data and ignore the corrupt news media. – As our corrupt news media establishment continues to work overtime to try to foment panic among the public, it is becoming increasingly apparent from the real numbers on the ground that the outbreak of the China Virus, COVID-19, is not likely to be as widespread as some have feared. You don’t have to believe me about it: All you have to believe is the experts, and the numbers.

Let’s start in England, where alarmists at Imperial College dramatically downgraded their previous wild projections of the spread of the disease this week:

So, in one day, the projection drops from a wildly over-blown 500,000 UK deaths to 20,000, a reduction of 96%.

Oh.

Now, let’s move to America, where our corrupt news media, in its endless zeal to do harm to President Donald Trump, has been making similar wild projections on a daily basis through either rank stupidity or – more likely – an intentional effort to create mass panic. Over the past two days, Dr. Deborah Birx, a woman renowned for her expertise in this field, has twice lectured the media for its outrageous conduct, albeit in a calm and pleasant way that only she can do.

In case you missed them because you either could not watch the press conferences live or because your favorite media outlet refused to mention these crucial facts, below are two clips followed by transcripts lovingly and laboriously prepared by yours truly.

First, from Wednesday’s press conference:

Dr. Birx: I know it has become a place where people are looking at numbers, rather than what is needed. Because when you do these projections, when you got to those projections that said – like a Germany and others that implied that 60% or 50% of the population would get infected – I want to be very clear: The only way that happens is if this virus remains continuously moving through populations in this cycle, in the fall cycle, and another cycle. So that’s three cycles with nothing being done.

We’re dealing with Cycle A right now, not the one that could come in the fall of 2020, and we’re getting prepared for it by innovations that are being worked. And not the 2021. We’re really dealing with the here and now while we’re planning for the future.

And I think the numbers that have been put out there are very frightening to people. But I can tell you if you go back and look at Wuhan and Hubei and all of these provinces, when they talk about 60,000 people being infected, even if you said, alright, well, there’s asymptomatics and all of that, so you get to 600,000 people out of 80 million. That is nowhere close to the numbers that you see people putting out there.

I think it has frightened the American people, I think that on a model that you just run full-out that you can get to those numbers if you have zero controls and you do nothing. We know that every American is doing something.

So, I think what our job right now is is to carefully detail, on a hospital by hospital, state by state, county by county level, to outline what the infrastructure needs are and ensure that we are meeting them, both from the stockpile, and from the movement and the generosity of the American people and other hospitals.

[End]

Now, since the corrupt media just kept on putting out bad information after Wednesday’s polite lecture, here is Dr. Birx reinforcing those messages as they relate specifically to New York at Thursday’s press conference:

Dr. Birx: Then finally the situation about ventilators: We were reassured in a meeting with our colleagues in New York that there are still ICU beds remaining, and there are still significant – over a thousand or two thousand – ventilators that have not been utilized yet.

Please, for the reassurance of people around the world, to wake up this morning and look at people talking about creating DNR situations – Do Not Resuscitate situations for patients – there is no situation in the United States right now that warrants that kind of discussion.

You can be thinking about it in a hospital; certainly, many hospitals talk about this on a daily basis. But to say that to the American people, to make the implication that when they need a hospital bed it’s not going to be there, or when they need that ventilator it’s not going to be there, we don’t have an evidence of that right now.

And it’s our job collectively to assure the American people that, it’s our collective job to make sure that does not happen. Right now, you can see these cases are concentrated in highly-urban areas. There are other parts of the state that have lots of ventilators, and other parts of New York State that don’t have a lot of infections right now.

So we can be creative. We can meet the need by being responsive. But there’s no model right now, no reality on the ground where we can see that 60-70% of Americans are going to get infected in the next 8 to 12 weeks. I just want to be clear about that. So we’re adapting to the reality on the ground. We’re looking at the models and how they can inform, but we are also learning very clearly from South Korea, and from Italy, and from Spain.

[End]

There, clear enough? Certainly, it will be to any reader of Today’s Campaign Update, since you are all well-meaning and intelligent people with actual functioning synapses in your cranial cavities.

But what about the hate-filled, rage-filled liberal clowns who infest the corrupt news media? All you need to do is look at how former Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart, himself a paid contributor at CNN, responded  to Dr. Birx’s Thursday comments:

The guy’s such an ignorant jackass that he can’t even spell her name correctly. And he is utterly typical of the people working in the corrupt national news media today.

Don’t get me wrong here: I am not attempting to downplay the seriousness of this virus. All I am trying to do is deal with reality, and with the facts on the ground. We should all be watching the daily Coronavirus Task Force updates, and updates provided by our state and local officials.

My wife and I are staying at home, other than trips to the grocery and drug stores. We are washing our hands 25 times a day, if not more. We are social distancing like a couple of fiends. We are driving our cat stark, raving mad with our constant presence in the house. We are following every piece of advice that these experts and public officials are giving us, and so should you.

What we are NOT doing is spending even a moment watching CNN or MSNBC or any of the three major broadcast networks, because we know that we will get nothing but corrupt disinformation from all of those sources.

This is the model of behavior that everyone should be following, because it is the model of behavior that will get our country past this viral outbreak and our lives returned to some semblance of normalcy as soon as possible.

Let’s all deal with facts and reality: The best way to do that is to ignore the corrupt news media.

That is all.

Today’s news moves at a faster pace than ever. Whatfinger.com is my go-to source for keeping up with all the latest events in real time.

First of all, the virus isn’t mutating like the flu; that’s a positive for vaccines, because vaccines for highly mutable organisms (influenza etc.) are very ineffective. The vaccine will be available for the second and third round, as this makes its way back – (as it is in China currently.)

Historically, a LOT of people were exposed to the Bubonic Plague, which was terribly lethal for large swaths of the population. But people did develop some kind antibodies – not an expert here, just remembering information from several years back.

So even if a LOT of people are exposed, there are two groups that will do OK: those with strong immune systems who get the infection, and those who are never exposed. A lot of people will never be exposed, but it’s not a safe assumption. We can strengthen our immune systems in several ways:

    1. Vitamin D, in correct quantity (don’t take a whole bottle!) according to informed sources
    2. Sleep as much as needed, but not excessively..
    3. STOP feelings of depression! If you suffer from depression naturally and are taking meds, don’t stop; if you don’t have depression, don’t start now! Depression also depresses the immune system!
    4. Exercise, but not to an extreme: studies have shown that exercise helps the immune system most at moderate levels, and too much decreases it to the same ineffectiveness as not exercising at all (been there, done that,)
    5. Eat good food, which includes leafy greens and nuts (some nuts have a lot of magnesium and selenium, so it is possible to eat too many.) Selenium, in the PROPER DOSES, helps the immune system, but it can be lethal in too large a quantity. Vitamin C is good, and zinc is good – but zinc can also be lethal in large quantities.
    6. As Dave says: wash your hands!
    7. Avoid touching your eyes, especially: the eyes connect to the sinuses, and if anyone here has ever used eye drops, and tasted the drops, you know what I mean. Touching the eyes is worse that touching the nose or mouth!

Not sure about this one, but the coronavirus family in general has a fairly high mutation rate, with new strains always emerging (hence COVID-19). The main problem is that it is a zoonotic transfer, so the human immune system does not have prior experience dealing with it.

All your advice is good and extends back centuries to ancient Greece. Everything in moderation. Don’t do stupid things and your remarkable body will take care of the rest.

Zinc can have antiviral effects (hydroxychloroquine supposedly interferes with the use of zinc by a key viral enzyme involved in the replication cycle), but recall ZiCam? Too much of it used in the nasal cavity to ward off the common cold resulted in lesioning of the olfactory epithelium, followed by lawsuits, and subsequent removal of the product from the market.

      1. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

Reliable authorities have said the virus is slow to mutate. While there is a small possibility that vaccine makers want to keep the eye on the vaccine and are spreading false hope, I don’t believe this is the case.

Bad news about slow mutation: it won’t adapt in order not to kill the host.
Good news about slow mutation: polio was almost eradicated, and smallpox was completely eradicated because they don’t mutate quickly.

  2. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

Diet and the immune system are inextricably linked.

So is dental health: don’t overbrush, but floss regularly and brush lightly after every meal. Some mouthwashes have thyme (thymol) which are helpful for many bacteria (not sure about viruses.) But you have to gargle for over a minute and a half for the mouthwash to be effective. (Don’t drink the mouthwash!) A lot of Dentists offices are being closed except for emergency cases, so take care of your teeth and gums.

Note that gum infections can go to the heart, causing problems with the wiring and causing various issues that you can read about if you like.

Also note that NSAIDs (ibuprofen etc.) is considered very unhealthy for this current issue. (Not sure about aspirin.) NSAIDS have also been linked with A-Fib (but not aspirin.) Aspirin can be harmful; be very careful if using aspirin! Some authorities are advising other analgesics for pain.

This is not medical advice; most of it has been out there for a long time, the A-Fib info coming into view over the last few years.

    1. phineas gage - March 27, 2020

Infective bacterial endocarditis is the greatest risk of poor oral hygiene, particularly for people with pre-existing valve problems or replacement valves, but it can also trigger the pathophysiology of coronary atherosclerosis.

A simple fact is that the only cure for a virus is the human immune system. A surprisingly large number of people don’t understand this and somehow think an antibiotic can be prescribed.

      1. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

The anti-malarials are most effective with antibiotics; the combination has been shown to be most effective in people who have this virus. Anti-malarials, as we know, are not vaccines, nor are they antibiotics. But the use of antibiotics in combination with the malaria drug was demonstrated to be most effective. That is because in many viral infections, secondary bacterial infections are almost a given.

Viruses in the mouth are generally defeated by acid, and viruses that are swallowed are also defeated by acid from the stomach. Which is why some authorities are suggesting sipping a LITTLE water every 15 minutes (not enough to cause hyponatremia, something common in ultra endurance athletes who drink too much dilute solution.)

  3. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

I wish Dr. Birx would highlight these things, so that people will know what to do, not just what NOT to do.
These are recommendations people should be considering taking and using, even without a “pandemic.”

  4. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

And finally, (before I go run and do pushups and then do some spring planting, some advice I always give injured athletes:

Don’t focus on what you CAN’T do; focus on what you CAN do!

And you have a lot you can do, personally, which won’t require outside assistance. Focus on what you CAN do. Keep a positive attitude!

  5. Jumper Bones - March 27, 2020

Mr. Blackmon, I have been advising folks, friends, family, to only get news from One America News network, as they have been consistent with avoiding the sensational scare tactics all other lamestream-media outlets repeatedly use. In greater Boston’s Verizon FiOS they are on channel 616, but they have a great website and a great iOS/Android app if your cable provider doesn’t carry them.

  6. Lyndon Johns - March 27, 2020

Excellent article and comments! Thank you!

  7. Sharon Campbell - March 27, 2020

Well said, David! Just the facts!

  8. phineas gage - March 27, 2020

The hysterical misprojections occurred for one simple reason (beyond political ideology), which is that most people that are infected are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms that are virtually unnoticeable.

But the people fanning the flames wanted chaos and panic, and that is what they engineered via a complicit and ignorant media. The damage they have caused is enormous. They don’t care. They are monsters.

  9. phineas gage - March 27, 2020

The media has gone much further now in that much of it is simply parroting propaganda straight from the Chinese communist government.

I believe this is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry. Nothing like this has happened before, and it is exceedingly dangerous.

  10. phineas gage - March 27, 2020

It is also interesting how Dr. Birx appears to be displacing Dr. Fauci as the go-to expert.

    1. sturmudgeon - March 27, 2020

      A good thing, I believe.

  11. Silas Lester - March 27, 2020

I keep pointing out to anybody who will listen, that the percentages are what matter. Not that we shouldn’t be serious about the issue, but that the MSM driven panic is unnecessary, But haters gonna hate and they will do their best to distort the facts or just outright lie.

As Dave has pointed out, there must some kind of punishment for the MSM’s scurrilous behavior.

  12. Meremortal - March 27, 2020

Liberals on lockdown are a wonder to behold. Their search for a Magic Mommy to fix everything and a Bad Daddy to blame never ends.

  13. Rick O'Shay - March 27, 2020

I’m wondering when this hysteria blows over and people realize, in addition to the economic damage, the social and cultural damage done by cancelling all the sporting events, the graduations, proms, family vacations, weddings, birthday celebrations, etc, if the backlash for the Dems and the MSM will make Russia and all the rest seem like small potatoes?

  14. Aldtrao - March 27, 2020

I think you are a boob for writing this. What on earth could make you so naive to presume that you know the real numbers? How many covid-19 deaths got written off as flu or pneumonia deaths in America this year because we weren’t testing? And do you think that now that a few test kits are finally starting to trickle in that we are going back and testing all those dead bodies? In China we can guess that there may be at least 21 million dead of covid because we know from cellphone data that there was an unexpected drop of 21 million users this year. And if you would bother to dig up the leaked videos from that country you could see for yourself people dropping in their tracks, and dead bodies lined up all over the sidewalks for disposal, and morgues over flowing with full body bags that they can’t incinerate fast enough, and scared but brave citizens warning us that it is much worse than their government is saying. So guess what, they lied; and if people don’t get serious about this thing, we’re only a few months behind them.

Yeah, it sucks about the economy and the libbers trying to hurt the country because they hate Trump; and yes, I realize that we are one misstep away from becoming a nation of breadlines; and yes, I understand that the globalist technocrats created this problem to bring us into the New World Order; but meanwhile the virus is very deadly and extraordinarily difficult to contain, and the more we refuse to be responsible to voluntarily protect our people, the more the government will step in to force us to do the right thing. That is what happened here in Washington state. Governor Inslee delayed shutting down the state, asking people to do the right thing of their own accord, and they didn’t, because of stupid uninformed articles like this that told them it was no big deal, until he was basically given no choice but to order a shut down. I realize you want your freedom and a vibrant economy. So do I. But first we have to survive this. And don’t say “We will, even if it kills 15% of the world,” because you might just be part of that group, and I guarantee you that when you are fighting for breath, you’ll get your priorities straight. I’m a Patrick Henry fan but, in reality, without life… there is no liberty; there’s no remedy for the grave.

The real numbers? I must hold you in derision for appealing to that phrase. As well say that you cast the runes to get your information.

    1. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

I think you’re being incredibly unfair. And negative. And Dave is not promoting false hope and fake optimism.

But I will tell you one thing: despair is deadly! People without hope develop depression, which causes compromised immune systems. Wanna get sick? Get depressed. Since you seem to be so gloomy, perhaps you’ve decided to share your depression with others, which is just as lethal (drug use, suicide.)

The authorities in some cases are guilty of this. For example, with Type II diabetes (which I have)
I did get the flu in 2019, and my glucose levels were pretty good; after I got sick (AFTER) my BG went up a lot – twice for my normal. Controlled Type II diabetes is not the same as uncontrolled diabetes.

They tell us people over 60 with Type II are bound to die. Well, the numbers don’t reflect that. Yes, the percentages are high (around 8 percent) but they’ve not considered comorbidities, such as heart and lung disease, compromised immune systems from smoking (yes, carbon monoxide does this.) They also fail to mention whether or not the people getting it are active and otherwise healthy. I did my second 7 mile “run” today with 280 pushups (10 pushups every quarter mile.) Now to some this might be a little excessive, but this isn’t unusual for me. I also ran into a lot of positive, happy people who will likely not get sick. (Including several Marines!)

You can take your negativity and stick it; WE will not submit to despair and depression. Get help.

      1. phineas gage - March 27, 2020

Well said, Jimmy. In addition, the poster. while criticizing David’s assessment which is based on the most recent estimates from this country, is using completely unreliable and anecdotal data from China.

    2. Gregg - March 27, 2020

While SOME of what you say can well be true, I don’t really think anyone here is diminishing the severity of the disease.

You should go work for or contribute to DNCNN, MSLSD, NYT, WAPO, et al, or maybe they will be calling and offering you a gig.

Xi may also be looking for a good propaganda minister.

      1. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

        Agree, Gregg.

A poem by Ezra Pound to A.E. Pound, which I’m reprinting in honor of Aldtrao

        Mr. Houseman’s Message

        “O woe, woe,
        People are born and die,
We also shall be dead pretty soon
Therefore let us act as if we were
        dead already.

The bird sits on the hawthorn tree
        But he dies also, presently.
Some lads get hung, and some get shot.
        Woeful is this human lot.
        Woe! woe, etcetera…

        London is a woeful place,
        Shropshire is much pleasanter.
Then let us smile a little space
        Upon fond nature’s morbid grace.
        Oh, Woe, woe, woe, etcetera….”

        About sums it up.

      2. Gregg - March 27, 2020

And I just heard the UK health “Expert” revised his numbers FROM HIS MODEL from 500,000 deaths to 20,000 deaths in the United Kingdom.

Just like that other a$$hole fraudulent “expert” Algore with all his global warming/climate change BS MODELS where NYC and Miami etc. were going to be underwater by now…

Chicken-little the-sky-is-falling snake-oil salesmen – all are BS artists, charlatans, and fearmongers.

Remember where there is panic, fear, chaos, and crisis, there is profit – look at who is looking to control us and profit from anything outside the norm.

    3. David Blackmon - March 27, 2020

*sigh* Just quoting the damn experts, you dimwit. 70% of the words in this piece are quotes by one of the most respected experts in her field on the face of the earth. If you aren’t capable of actually reading the piece before replying to it, then go away.

  15. brian - March 27, 2020

Just another opinion. I don’t agree with Aldtrao as the statements made are really a repeat of the screeching media of fear, we’re all gonna die. This article is reasonably balanced and common sense as opposed to the fear mongering being feuled and promoted by the lamestream media which has been proven to lie either outright or by omission.

Oddly enough the media does not mention what people are actually dying from. It more than appears that the virus isn’t the killer but that underlying health conditions are the real killers, ie secondary bacterial infections, septic shock. There are very few demographics given and when they are given its to induce…. fear… So those not panicking are just out to kill gran and grandpa as the media has screamed lately.

Do the math and it become obvious its not nearly what the media is bellowing. Take the Princess cruise ship that had over 3200 people on board. MOST in the high risk category, average age was 70. A CLOSED environment, perfect lab conditions to gauge the virus. Eight people died. 400:1, or .25% Why is the media not looking and reporting on the other cruise ship labs??? Its not anywhere near as deadly as the media pumps, next to zero among children and young adults and those reported had health problems the media ‘forgets’ to mention.

Question… If you are at home, self isolating, WHY would you need to wash your hands 25 times a day??? Its not a magic virus, can’t just appear in your house. Your skin is a very effective shield against microbial life and viruses. If this were not the case you’d be dead 30 minutes after birth. Just keep your hands away from eyes, nose and mouth… your face. Common sense should be declared a super power these days. and no I’m not buying into the fear but do advocate for caution and one death is to many but sadly unavoidable.

    1. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

      Good comments!

The Prophet Jeremiah was up against false prophets – they accused him of doom and gloom, while they were more like Tony Robbins and Prosperity Theologists. But what Dave wrote, and what you and many of us are saying is that this is not Israel paying for 490 years of disobedience!

One more piece of advice to add to yours: smile! It’s contagious! Especially when you are in a store or out walking. Just…smile.

  16. brian - March 27, 2020

Not seeing much about the effects the ‘social distancing’ but certainly tons of this being promoted the only way to stop this virus. Your advice on smiling Jimmy is spot on at this time especially. Hard to promote fear if the other is smiling.

I see this social distancing as being a tool by the left at introducing more paranoia and suspicion about those you meet day to day. Its already showing up in places where people are calling 911 on a nieghbour because someone is coughing. Starting to sound like the Stassi… Divide and conquer, isolate people, censor and reverse speak facts and truths… Let me reaffirm, I’m not a conspiracy but I also do NOT trust any govt or large corporation. Curious what others think.

    1. Jimmy MacAfee - March 27, 2020

“Divide and conquer.” There are so many applications where that is being done, it’s hard to know where to begin. But still, as you agreed: smile.
