Kung Flu Fighting: How Trump Can Deal With His China Virus Critics

Guest Piece by Gregg Updike

Unfortunately, since everything is now politicized to the nth degree, regardless of whatever action President Trump takes, it is always criticized as being wrong or incompetent etc. That being the case, he needs to make it “political”, as there is no doubt it will be made into a major campaign issue by the Democrats.

So, that being the reality of today’s political environment, he needs to treat all his virus actions as a major campaign issue – just like fighting a war would be. He just can’t work to solve this “pandemic” as a normal person or a business person would. Trump should continue to be frank with America and state with clarity that due to the hyper-partisan nature of the media narrative, entertainers, and the opposition party, he needs to treat this and the actions he has/is taking as a make or break moment for his presidency. That is just today’s reality and Trump does best when he faces and speaks to reality.

Since the president is already conducting daily press briefings on the China Virus and has the best and brightest minds in his administration and the CDC etc. already working on a solution, he should broaden scope of the input from all available sources. Why not invite the presumptive nominee Joe Biden, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, selected governors and mayors of the most impacted states and cities, and any other Main Stream Media medical “expert” they wish to present to the briefings? Draw these people out of their comfortable bunkers.

He should have an open televised round table discussion – like he did a couple years ago on the immigration issue – for the whole world to see. Show the country a true presidential bipartisan discussion between the leaders of both parties which, like two years ago, would exclude the pointless and nonsensical reporter’s questions. If Trump should wish the press to be involved, he could have the reporter’s questions submitted in writing with name and network attribution, but would deny them camera-hogging facetime.

This would force Trump’s detractors to either support him and his indefatigable efforts to solve this “pandemic”, or counter him with their “solutions”. We would then get an unfiltered view of how uncooperative and self-serving Trump’s opposition actually is. Make the opposition present and defend their positions in a meaningful way. If they decline to attend and display national solidarity and offer up their solutions, then Trump’s case of being serious and ”presidential” will have been made. The Democrats will be in an untenable position where they will have to present logical input and offer real cooperation, or they will be further exposed as the anti-American subversives they are.

Use these conferences to display charts and graphs on all aspects of the China Virus spread, infection rates etc. Broadcast openly the monetary relief aspects and negotiations of the various proposed stimulus programs – show which politicians in congress are opposing the various solutions and why they are opposing the solutions. There should also be someone from the FED and the private (industry) sector available to explain what they can and are doing to help in this crisis.

There is no reason to keep this information from the American people. If the networks don’t want to air – perhaps – four hour conferences every day, then insist it be broadcast UNEDITED on all CSPAN channels, PBS, NPR, and YouTube and other social media platforms.

No one, not Trump’s political enemies or his political allies, would be able to creditably accuse him of being a partisan dictator, a grandstander, or of hiding the truth in any way.

Since the herd-mentality of virtually everyone is on board with the idea of, and calling for, the commitment of spending up to one to two TRILLION DOLLARS – which is three to six thousand dollars per person in America – or more to solve this CHINA caused “crisis”, then let everyone see just who is advocating for these budget-busting expenditures. Expose those who are larding up the “stimulus” with their own pet projects and causes – most of which are NOT related to this China virus “crisis”.

Sunshine is a great disinfectant; let us all see where everyone stands on dealing with basically an enhanced version of influenza which, as of this writing, seemingly is curable by common, inexpensive, safe, and soon to be readily available drugs.

Prior to this virus causing social gathering shutdowns, which included the suspension of Trump’s huge and successful rallies, his campaign staff were gathering data on who was attending his rallies while they were happening. Since the rallies are suspended, he needs his campaign staff to monitor every large and small article, blog and post, and, most importantly, the resulting comments from those postings, on social media, and aggregate sites like Whatfinger. It is a treasure trove of heartfelt and logical public opinion and thought. Obviously the incoherent noise, the trolls, and stupid comments need to be purged and dismissed. Perhaps a fair algorithm could be developed to separate the wheat from the Schiff?

Forty plus years ago, I remember hearing President Carter openly soliciting written suggestions to be sent to the White House to help him deal with the unemployment, high interest rates, oil/energy and the Iran Hostage crises. To me, this was a tantamount admission that he, and his administration, was either unable or incompetent in its ability to deal with any difficult issue.

President Trump doesn’t have to ask for suggestions; they are freely offered by many very practical, intelligent, and patriotic Americans who want what is best for the country and ask for no compensation. It would be foolish not to search for and take the good advice freely offered – especially if it is from people who are not paid politicos with a hidden agenda.

That is all.
