Trump May Be Playing 4-D Chess With Sessions/Priebus/Kelly

Today’s Campaign Update – Supplemental

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • It hadn’t occurred to me when I was compiling the daily Campaign Update in this morning’s wee hours, but in thinking through the week’s events and how Trump’s mind tends to work, it seems to me that yesterday’s replacement of Reince Priebus with DHS Secretary Gen. John Kelly could become a prelude to yet another Trumpian 4-D chess move.  Bear with me here…
  • There is no question that the President is both frustrated with and very fond of his Attorney General, Jeff Sessions.  President Trump was caught off-guard by Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the Democrat/Media-generated Russia Collusion fantasy play, and has stewed about that decision ever since.  At the same time, though, Sessions was and remains one of the President’s earliest and most loyal supporters, and the two obviously like one another.
  • But the President definitely wants to move Sessions out of Justice, so that he can appoint a new A/G who can exert some semblance of control over the ever-expanding, obvious witch hunt that Special Counsel Bob Mueller is running.  Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, the lifetime swamp creature who appointed Mueller, has steadfastly refused to exercise any oversight whatsoever.
  • But Trump has been warned by squish GOP senators Ben Sasse and Lindsey Graham that the senate would never confirm a new AG nominee if Sessions is fired.  Both senators also made it clear they would never allow the President to make a recess appointment for the AG post.
  • So what does any of that have to do with the “resignation” by Reince Priebus and his replacement with DHS Secretary Kelly?  Well, consider the following possible steps available to the President now:
    • Because Sessions has already been confirmed by the Senate for a cabinet post, those squish senators would have no ability whatsoever to interfere if Mr. Trump wanted to replace Kelly at DHS by moving Sessions into that job;
    • Because EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has already been confirmed by the Senate for his position, those squish senators would have no ability whatsoever to interfere if Mr. Trump decided to move the former Attorney General of Oklahoma into the Attorney General slot;
    • Because Rick Perry has already been confirmed by the Senate for his job as Energy Secretary, those squish senators would have no ability whatsoever to interfere if Mr. Trump decided to move the former Texas Governor into the EPA Administrator slot;
    • That would leave a vacancy at the Department of Energy, but so what?  Does anyone believe that those squish senators would fall on their swords opposing a new nominee for that job?  Please.
  • Now, I have no information that the President is in fact thinking along these lines, but given his often-unanticipated moves over the past few years that turned out to shock everyone, we should not be surprise if he has a scenario such as this in the back of his mind.
  • Don’t be surprised if the Preibus-for-Kelly trade was just the first in a series of cabinet-level dominoes to fall.

That is all.

Rig Streak Ends, Oil Price Streak Maintains – What Does It All Mean?

Friday marked the end of the 23-week streak of uninterrupted gains in the U.S. rig count , as the overall count fell by 1, according to the Baker Hughes survey.  Meanwhile, the price for crude oil rose for the sixth consecutive trading session, the longest such streak of the year .  Though the price for WTI still hovers around a modest $46/bbl, both events were encouraging signs to an industry that had not had much to celebrate throughout most of the month of June.

On June 19, I wrote about my belief  that we would see the U.S. drilling rig count level off and even begin to fall slowly as U.S. producers readjust their drilling budgets for the 2nd half of 2017.  The rate of increase in the rig count has been slowing for several weeks as these budget adjustments began to kick in, and this week’s single-rig decrease is a sign that the overall count may have peaked or is close to doing so for the remainder of 2017.

This is a good thing for the future of oil prices, because the U.S. shale industry had heated up so rapidly over the first six months of the year that a cooling off period as become needed.  The rapid rise in overall U.S. oil production had inhibited the effort by OPEC and Russia to re-balance global supply and demand and greatly diminished investor confidence in the commodity.  If Friday’s slight decline does signal a peak or near-peaking of the rig count, that will serve as a bullish price signal in coming weeks and months.

As well, the six-day rise in the global crude prices is a positive sign, but no one should celebrate too strongly over the July 4 holidays, since all that really happened was an uptick from a very low WTI price of around $43/bbl up to Friday’s still-low $46 finish.  That price is still not at a level necessary to sustain current levels of new drilling in most U.S. oil-producing basins.

Fake NYTimes Reporters Correct Fake WaPo Reporters

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • When fake news corrects fake news.:  The fake journalists at the WaPo issued a “blockbuster” report – based solely on anonymous sources – that Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner contacted Russian officials in December to discuss the concept of creating a “secret” communications channel with the Trump transition team.  The fake reporters for the Post spend about 1,000 words without ever landing on two key bits of information:  1) was such a channel actually established, and 2) what did they wish to discuss?  To get that information, you have to go to a follow-up report, filed not by the fake reporters at the Post, but by the fake reporters at the NYTimes, who actually chose for once to inform their readers.  Turns out that 1) no one – not the Russians or the transition team – ever followed up on the call, and 2) the Trump team simply wanted to establish a channel of information regarding the situation in Syria, most likely because it couldn’t get accurate information from the Obama Administration, and was by that time sick of being spied on by the Obama minions.
  • One more item of info the WaPo conventiently left out:  The fake reporters at the WaPo want its brainwashed readers to think Kushner’s request somehow violated U.S. law.  Guess what?  It didn’t.  The Post’s own report admits – 400 words in – that it is very common for presidential transition teams to establish communications with foreign governments.  Just another nothing-burger from the WaPo.
  • Remember when we used to get college degrees so we could go out into the world and earn our own way in life?  Yeah, those days are over.:  The snowflakes graduating from Harvard were treated deep thoughts from Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, among them, this gem:  “We should explore concepts like universal income, to make sure everyone has a cushion to explore new ideas.”  Yes, new ideas.  Like socialism.  Of course, these snowflakes will need all the help they can get, since most of them have incurred massive debt in order to obtain worthless degrees that have no application in the U.S. economy.  Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.
  • The racketeering never ends for the Most Corrupt Woman in America.:  She used her commencement speech at Wellesley College for Communist Indoctrination mainly for communist indoctrination, but interrupted that theme for a few minutes to get in a plug for her new racket:  “I’m going to devote a lot of my future to helping you make your mark in the world,” she told the class of 2017. “I’ve created a new organization called Onward Together to recruit and train future leaders, organize for real and lasting change.” It’s a very, very safe bet this dark money group will be run on the same model as the dying Clinton Crime Family Foundation:  a tiny sliver of funds going to the mission, and well over 90% of the money going to exorbitant salaries, bonuses, travel and event planning.

Just another day in fake news correcting fake news America.

That is all.

Fake Journalist Heads Explode Over Simple Military Tactic, Film At 11

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • Heads exploded all over the fake news media last night over a Reuters report that, in a conversation with the President (i.e., Dictator) of the Phillipines, President Trump “revealed” the fact that the U.S. has two nuclear submarines somewhere in the general vicinity of North Korea:  “We have a lot of fire power over there. We have two nuclear submarines, not that we want to use them.”  The fake journalists who are trying to brainwash you want you to believe that this is the revelation of some deep, dark secret, right?  Right.  Trouble is, these two subs made a very, very well-advertised port of call in the general vicinity of North Korea just a few weeks ago.
  • As a friend who knows about such things reminded me last night, this is called “projection of power”, a tactic designed to let the Crazy Little Fat Guy who rules North Korea know that we’re keeping a very close eye on him.  It’s been pretty effective, too, since we haven’t heard much out of the Crazy Little Fat Guy – who just a few weeks ago was widely reported to be about to lead the world into WWIII – recently, have we?  We should not expect the abject ignoramuses who infest our fake news media to understand any of this, of course, but that doesn’t mean we should let our heads to explode, too.
  • He’s got my vote.:  Montana Republican congressional candidate Greg Gianforte was accused of body-slamming a fake reporter with the U.K Guardian who barged uninvited into an event yesterday, on the eve of the vote to fill the seat vacated by new Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.  Americans all over the nation found themselves wishing they lived in Montana just so they could help Mr. Gianforte win.
  • Today’s Required Reading.:  There Remains No Evidence Of Trump-Russia Collusion.  Seriously, just read it.  It will make you smarter and better-informed than you were before.  Promise.
  • But doggone it, people like him!:  Ed Morrissey reports that Minnesota Senator Al Franken has ruled out running for the presidency in 2020.  He has apparently decided he isn’t good enough or smart enough.
  • Writing in the NY Post, Maureen Callahan describes the problem MSNBC has on its hands with notorious serial fabricator Brian Williams:  “Pre-election, the left-leaning MSNBC had been planning to pivot to hard news. Post-Trump, they’ve doubled down on punditry, to their great advantage.  It’s hard to believe that not one executive is mulling their greatest contradiction: How can they employ an anchor known for pomposity, grandiosity and lies while decrying these very traits in the American president?”  Well, hey, this is after all the same cable channel that has employed the likes of Al Sharpton, Keith Olberman, Larry O’Donnell and Andrea Mitchell.  So, no problem at all.
  • If her name was Trump lefties everywhere would be screaming about obstruction of justice.  And they’d have a point.:  The terminally vapid Debbie Wasserman Schulz was caught on camera threatening a police chief for collecting evidence related to her IT staffer’s alleged crimes.  Oddly, none of the fake journalists in the fake news media accused the former DNC chair of any sort of misbehavior at all.  Funny how that works.
  • Whew!  That was close.:  Speaking to graduates of the Harvard Kennedy School, former Secretary of State Lurch, er, John Kerry, the architect of the very worst international agreement in American history with the Mullahs in Iran, told the audience that “this is not a normal time” for America.  Well, color me relieved then.

Just another day in projection of power America.

That is all.

Democrats’ New Plan: Flipping Their Birds Back To Power

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • The greatest show on earth has a new home.:  After 146 years of providing continuous entertainment to America, Ringling Brothers Circus held its final show over the weekend.  No worries – the Campaign circus in Washington, DC never ends, so the masses will continue to be entertained whether we like it or not.
  • Cussing their way back into power, two middle fingers at a time.:  At the increasingly profane Democrat Party’s annual convention in California, the 84 year-old outgoing state party chairman, some guy named John Burton, closed out the proceedings by sticking both middle fingers in the air and leading gleeful party members in the chant of “F*** Donald Trump!  F*** Donald Trump!”  The fake national news media largely ignored the incident.  Try to imagine the fake media outrage that would ensue if a state GOP party chair led a GOP convention in a chant of “F*** Barack Obama!”, or “F*** Hillary Clinton!”  Anderson Cooper would be so outraged he might “take a dump on his desk.”
  • Perhaps there is hope for the future after all.:  Several dozen Notre Dame graduates walked out of a commencement address as it was being delivered by Indiana native son Mike Pence, the Vice President of the United States.  To their undying credit, many of the students who remained jeered at the emotionally-stunted children as they left the arena.
  • Hey, Mom!  I’m home!  Probably for good!:  Meanwhile, MarketWatch reports that the percentage of post-college age Millenials living with their parents has reached an all-time high.  All over America today, thousands more are leaving their college towns of choice, loaded down with tens of thousands of dollars of debt they incurred in order to get their degrees in useless majors, to add to that total.  Obviously, dozens of such graduates left South Bend, Indiana yesterday.
  • Meanwhile, in the realm of winning…:  The tone of U.S. foreign policy has certainly changed.  President Donald Trump spent the entire weekend in the Middle East, and didn’t utter a single apology to anyone, didn’t bow to any foreign leader, and neither his wife nor his daughter donned a head scarf.  And rather than employing pop psychology to dummy up reasons to blame Western democracies for being the cause of atrocities committed by Islamic terrorists, President Trump instead implored Arab leaders to “drive them out” of their countries and wipe them off the face of the earth.
  • They also think spaghetti with marinara sauce is exactly the same thing as mac ‘n cheese.:  When President Trump had to bow slightly when a shorter Saudi ruler awarded him a medal of honor, CNN and other fake news media outlets rushed to claim it was exactly, precisely the same thing as Barack Obama’s habit of bowing every time he greeted any Arab leader.  Which is exactly what any thinking person should expect from the fake news media.
  • His sense of self-awareness could use a little work.:  Speaking of Barack Obama, he gave a speech in Milan, Italy on this beliefs about how the all-knowing, all-powerful “Climate Change” is in fact responsible for literally everything bad that ever happens, blaming the entire problem on carbon dioxide (i.e., plant food) created by mankind.  To get to Milan, the former POTUS flew in a private jet, and then drove to the venue from the airport in a 13-car, gasoline-fueled motorcade, thus leaving him with a carbon footprint roughly equal to that created by the Island of Madagascar on a daily basis.

Just another day in Climate Change is a religion America.

That is all.

Comey’s False Presidential Handshake Claim

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

So let’s address this bullsh*t claim by a buddy of James Comey (no doubt at Comey’s urging, reciting Comey’s script) that he was “disgusted” by having to shake President Donald Trump’s hand at a White House reception for senior Administration officials 2 days following the inauguration.

Comey’s claim is that he intentionally wore a blue blazer so that he might be able to “blend in” with the curtains in the room so as not to attract the President’s attention.  He further claims that he was “disgusted” when the President “singled him out” among the other senior officials and asked him to come shake his hand.  Comey’s buddy claims the handshake was “purely one-sided” and that Comey felt like the President was “trying to compromise him” by shaking his freaking hand.

Ok, let’s analyze this, first by going to this link and looking at the film of the incident.

What is the first thing you notice by looking at that film?  If you’re like most people, you notice that James Comey is about a foot taller than anyone else in that entire room.  Let’s be honest here:  If the Director of the FBI really believed that, by wearing a blazer that is similar in color to the curtains in that room, he was going to avoid attracting attention from the President or anyone else, he is obviously too damned dim-witted to be the FBI Director, and needed firing for that reason alone.

Now take a look at the photo accompanying this piece:  You see the administration officials are lined up along the back wall of the room, and that Mr. Comey had stationed himself directly in the MIDDLE of that line up.  By placing himself there, he ensured that he would occupy the very CENTER of the President’s point of view.

So, he’s a foot taller than everyone else in the room, and he intentionally stations himself in the center of a line of shorter people.  Does this really look like someone hoping to avoid attention, or does it look like the normal behavior constantly exhibited throughout his career by the tirelessly attention-seeking James Comey?

Now, back to the video:  Look at the handshake.  Comey, contrary to what his buddy claims, reaches his hand out to accept the President’s hand, leans in to listen to whatever the President wanted to whisper in his hear, and smiles throughout.  Is this the behavior of a “disgusted” underling, or of a tireless attention-seeker who is more than happy to have been singled out in that room of peers?

This is just one more example of the reality of James Comey:  He is a weasel, a skunk, an attention-seeking jerk, and someone who obviously needed firing.

That is all.

Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends) – 5.20.2017

  • Democrats have now set themselves up with a big problem, thanks to their incessant, irrational talk about “Impeachment” over the last few months:  They now have a radical leftwing base that expects them to deliver the goods, and soon.  The trouble is, it’s a goal that is not deliverable any time in the foreseeable future.  In doing this, the Democrats have set themselves up with the very same conundrum that Republicans set themselves up with on Obamacare.
  • Why is it not deliverable?  First because, simply, the impeachment of a president requires there to be a crime.  So far, despite all the sound and fury and fake news reports based solely on unnamed “sources”, no crime has been identified.  Indeed, no crime on the part of President Trump has even been alleged, as confirmed by a series of former Obama officials, the now-fired Director of the FBI and every Democrat Senator who has been willing to opine on the question.  Hell, even the insufferable nitwit Maxine Waters was forced to admit this reality early this week.  No crime, no impeachment.  It really is that simple.
  • Second is the next reality that the impeachment process is managed in the U.S. House of Representatives, where the Republicans currently control a very large majority of seats.  The approval of articles of impeachment requires a majority vote in the house, meaning that, even if every Democrat were to vote in favor, dozens of Republicans would have to join them in that effort.  And getting to that point assumes that Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan would even allow such a process to begin on his watch.  Ryan has never been a fan of President Trump, obviously, but he is a loyal Republican, and it’s hard to imagine him allowing such a process to even begin on his watch, barring revelations that some real crimes have been committed by the President.
  • Third is the reality that Impeachment simply means that the house has voted to accuse the President of crimes that merit his removal from office.  The removal process is managed in the U.S. Senate, where again, Republicans have control, and where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has even more control over the process than Speaker Ryan does in the house.  Making things even more difficult, the actual removal of a president from office requires a 2/3rds vote of the senate, not a simple majority, so it is not something Democrats would be able to accomplish by simply having disloyal Rinos like John McCain and Lindsey Graham join them in the effort.
  • So basically, the Democrats, as the Republicans did seven years ago related to Obamacare, have now created an expectation among their base voters that they have no current way of satisfying, and let’s face it, the Democrat base is basically insane at this point in its overwhelming rage, and not known for its patience.  This is a segment of our society that behaves in such an irrational manner because it believes it is entitled to have its way.
  • The Democrats are now going to have to base their campaigns in the 2018 mid-term elections on a promise to impeach President Trump if they are given majorities in not one, but both houses of congress.  This is a promise that, absent the revelation of some real crime committed by President Trump, is likely to turn as many people off as it turns on.  It’s one thing to campaign against a piece of legislation, as the GOP did for the last 7 years; it’s quite another thing to base a campaign on the promise of never-ending chaos that is incredibly damaging to American democracy.  Democrat base voters don’t care about such things, but independent voters by and large do.
  • And here’s another pesky reality of life facing congressional Democrats:  they aren’t likely to win a majority in either house of congress in 2018, much less both houses.  House districts have been so expertly gerrymandered by both parties over the last 40 years that only a few dozen races will even be competitive, and Republicans will win their share of those competitive races.  Democrats might close the gap in the House, but odds are very remote that they will turn it completely.
  • The Senate is even tougher for Democrats, as more than half of their senate membership is up for re-election in 2018, and they will have to defend 25 of 34 seats that are in play.  Eight of those seats currently occupied by Democrats are in states that were easily won in 2016 by Donald Trump.  The most likely scenario for 2018 is that the Republicans will actually increase their majority in the Senate, not lose ground.
  • Where does that leave the Democrats in 2019?  It leaves them with an even angrier base of voters than they already have, though I know it’s hard to imagine that being the case.  Further, it leaves them with literally no way to placate that perpetually enraged base going into the 2020 presidential elections.  That in turn means that the Democrat Party will continue to migrate even further to the far left than it already is in its never-ending efforts to placate the rage.  That leftwards lurch will almost certainly result in a presidential nominee who is unabashedly socialist/fascist, like Bernie Sanders, who will be pushing 80 by 2020, or the Fake Indian Senator from Massachusetts, who will be easily marginalized as the nut job she truly is.
  • We have seen many Democrats now begin to back off from using the “I” word over the last couple of weeks, in part because of the appointment of a special counsel to investigate their Trump/Russia collusion fantasy, and in part because the smarter among them – like Sen. Feinstein – have worked through the same logical progression detailed above.  But this won’t last for long, because their base of perpetual rage-filled entitlement babies won’t allow it.
  • This is the house that the Democrats have built for themselves by allowing their worst nitwits to lead the party’s public messaging assault on President Trump.  Who knows?  Perhaps they’ll be able to manage it all to a successful conclusion.  But the odds are very much against it, because the process of impeaching and removing a president was devised by much, much smarter people than they are.

Just another day in premature impeachment frenzy America.

That is all.

Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends) – 5.19.2017

  • Today’s Required Reading:  George Soros, that evil old leftist radical who funds Black Lives Matter and other U.S. leftist violent protest groups, essentially owns the Democratic Party, and who has played such a large role in the flooding of Europe with Muslim immigrants, is now buying up district attorneys around the country.  Great report on his latest efforts to destroy the free world here.
  • Can we get the WaPo and NYTimes to quit making stuff up about Comey now?:  Guy Benson, one of the handful of real journalists still working in Washington DC today, posted video on Twitter yesterday from James Comey’s May 3 sworn testimony to congress.  In response to a question, Mr. Comey clearly and unequivocally states that no one in the Trump or any other administration, not the President or anyone else, has ever asked him to stop any investigation, ever.  Period.  In response, the WaPo and NYTimes issued several more made-up stories about Comey based on nothing but unidentified, anonymous “sources”.  Because that’s all they know to do anymore.
  • Cats everywhere are cringing in fear…:  The Daily Mail reports that officials in China have banned the selling and consuming of dog meat at the nation’s annual Yulin festival, at which dog meat has traditionally been the dish of choice.  The government is not planning to ban the killing and serving of any other types of animals that people in the Western world tend to name and treat like family members these days.  I swear I don’t make this stuff up.
  • If this surprises you, you just don’t understand the real ability of House Republicans to screw up any one car parade.:  It was revealed yesterday that House Speaker Paul Ryan hasn’t actually sent the much-vaunted Obamacare repeal and replace bill to the Senate yet.  Why?  Because he’s afraid he may have to put the matter up for another vote, depending on how the score from the Congressional Budget Office turns out.  Next time someone tells you Donald Trump doesn’t know what he’s doing, refer that person to Paul Ryan.
  • Meanwhile, in an obvious effort to change the subject and calm the financial markets, Ryan and House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady started talking about their tax reform effort again, holding a meeting with business leaders from around the country.  Can’t wait to see how many times they’re planning to hold votes on that one.
  • They’re just “leaving”.  Get it?:  The fake journalists at The Atlantic filed a report titled “American Trees Are Moving West And No One Knows Why”.  Naturally, the fake reporter quotes fake climate scientists who state with all certainty that climate change – which is responsible for everything from acid indigestion to thinning hair on desert jumping rats – accounts for “no more than 20%” of this mysterious tree migration.  Seriously, you have to read this story to believe it.
  • Tired of winning yet?:  ICE reports that arrests of illegal immigrants at the southern border are up by 40% this year over the same period in 2016.  As reported earlier, the agency also estimates that total illegal border crossings are down by more than 75% in the same year-over-year measure.  If we could count on the next Democrat elected to the presidency to continue to simply enforce U.S. immigration law, no fence would be necessary.  Unfortunately, we all know we can’t count on any such thing.

Just another day in winning despite the fake news media America.

That is all.

Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends) – 5.18.2017

  • Democrats are celebrating this morning – their wet dream has arrived:  a special counsel appointed by the Justice Department, a career-long creature of the DC swamp, with no limits on what he can investigate, with an unlimited time frame during which to conduct his investigation, and with a pretty much unlimited budget for his investigation.  This is what they’ve wanted since Election Day, and thanks to the decision by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to stupidly recuse himself from anything related to the Russia investigation, Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein gave it to them yesterday in the form of former FBI Director Robert Mueller.
  • Every time one of these atrocities of federal law has been established, the fake news media immediately trots out testimonials about the man’s (they’re always old, white men – you would think all the social justice warriors would object to that part of the scam at some point) impeccable credentials and character.  He will then make a statement – which will surely come  today – about how he is going to be laser-focused on the supposed topic of his investigation, and he will make damn sure the investigation is conducted efficiently and won’t turn into some sort of witch hunt that ends in some sort of kangaroo court that throws people like Scooter Libby in prison for a made-up crime just so the special counsel can claim a scalp.
  • After making that pledge – which again, Mr. Mueller will certainly make later today or no later than tomorrow – the special counsels of the past have then embarked on a long, unlimited witch hunt that has always ended up in a kangaroo court climax accusing and prosecuting individuals for “crimes”, real or imagined, that were usually not remotely the subject of the investigation to begin with.
  • Regardless of his own personal character, intentions and qualifications, Mr. Mueller’s investigation will inevitably be taken in this traditional direction and end in this traditional outcome, because he is little more than a figurehead, the “upright man”, the public face of a process that will soon be staffed and run by a group of young, ambitious lawyers who will make it their goal to collect as many scalps as they can in order to make names for themselves, so that they too can become fabulously wealthy, career-long creatures of the DC swamp.
  • And if you think the Trump Administration leaks like that 35 year-old sieve you got as a wedding gift in 1981, just wait until you see the magnitude of leaks that will soon begin flowing from Mr. Mueller’s staff.  Again, it’s the Democrats’ wet dream, not to mention the WaPo and the fake NYTimes.
  • But hey, you’re sitting there thinking, the positive side of this is that all those congressional investigations will now be shut down and congress might actually get some real business done, right?  Wrong.  Leaders of both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees and the House Oversight Committee have already announced that the appointment of Mr. Mueller will not in any way affect their own efforts to provide the Democrats in congress with a daily array of talking points and classified material to leak to the press.  Republicans are too stupid to do anything else.  Silly you for thinking otherwise.
  • Mr. Mueller is no doubt a fine man – the obligatory testimonials to that effect are already rolling in, and there is no reason to doubt them.  As well, he has been a fine public servant, as his leadership of the FBI during the George W. Bush administration by and large attests.  But we heard the very same sorts of testimonials and saw similar records of public service in the past about Ken Starr, Lawrence Walsh, Patrick Fitzgerald and every other old white guy who has served as a special counsel over the last half century.
  • But every one of the special counsel investigations of the past have followed the exact same pattern of promised quick efficiency and laser-like focus on a narrow investigation, to inexorable and dramatic expansion, to outright years-long witch hunt, to a kangaroo court conclusion.  Why?  Because that’s how this process was designed to work by the creatures of the DC establishment who wrote the governing statute.  It would be better named the DC Swamp Preservation Act.
  • So get ready for a witch hunt followed several years from now by a kangaroo court that sends people to prison for “crimes” completely unrelated to the ostensible subject of Mr. Mueller’s investigation.  The hope of the Democrats is that Mr. Mueller finds away to still be “investigating” on Election Day 2020, and the odds are very much in favor of that being the case.

Just another day in here-we-go-again, special counsel America.

That is all.
