Trump Bailed The GOP Congress Out In 2016 – He Can’t Do It Again In 2018

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • Well, the news media covered for him as long as they could, but the news finally came out yesterday that Senator John McCain’s “surgery for a blood clot above his eye” that would only have him absent from the Senate for a week turns out to actually be an initial surgery for a very aggressive form of cancerous brain tumor called Glioblastoma.  While we will no doubt continue to see “optimistic” reports from doctors about the Senator’s condition, the truth is that this is a very, very grave situation.  I won’t pretend to be a fan of Senator McCain – I’ve often mocked him as The Senator From The News Media, and found his behavior while George W. Bush and Donald Trump were serving as Presidents to be inexcusable.  But many consider McCain to be a national hero, and few human beings have fought and survived against the brutality that he has suffered during his life.  I wouldn’t wish his current battle on my worst enemy.  Godspeed.
  • Let’s talk about congressional Republicans.  A year ago today, Republicans in congress were possibly the single most-detested part of the ruling class in Washington, DC.  They had, as a group, made more false and failed promises to voters over the previous seven years than almost any such collective group of politicians in American history.  They were headed at that point for a thrashing at the voting booths, with “experts” and polls indicating the GOP would lose its Senate majority and could possibly lose the House as well, if Hillary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in a landslide in the presidential contest.
  • But a funny thing happened on the way to electoral disaster:  Donald Trump ran what was certainly an unconventional compaign, but one that was also a rousing success.  The media-promoted and projected Clinton landslide became a crushing defeat for her, and it also bailed the GOP congress out, allowing the Party to retain control of both houses of congress.
  • Suddenly, congressional Republicans were back.  Contrary to the prevailing “wisdom” among DC “experts”, it wasn’t the GOP that was falling apart and doomed to ultimate destruction, it was the Democrats.  And it wasn’t just in Washington:  the results of the 2016 elections gave the GOP control of 2/3rds of the nation’s governorships, 2/3rds of the nation’s legislative chambers, and the Party was about to cement a narrow, 5/4 conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court with the confirmation of Justice Gorsuch.
  • Even better, the election results presented congressional Republicans with a golden opportunity to redeem themselves, to repair their stained reputations by finally, at long last, keeping their collective word to repeal and replace Obamacare.  They had an opportunity to cement their majorities and build on them in the upcoming 2018 mid-terms if they could also pass a strong tax reform bill, and demonstrate to the American voters that the GOP could indeed be an effective governing party.
  • And that, of course, is where it has all fallen apart.  Since January, under the utterly ineffective leadership of Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the congressional GOP has done nothing to repair its image, little to keep its promises, nothing to prove to the American people that it deserves to be the majority party in the national legislative body.
  • Worse, the GOP congress has proven that its repeated votes to repeal Obamacare while Barack Obama presented a certain veto were nothing more than cynical political theater, and meant nothing at all.  It is now obvious that liberal senators like Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins have no desire to do anything about the Obamacare disaster at all, and that Mitch McConnell has no ability or real desire to exert control over his senate caucus on this issue.
  • If you want proof of that latter contention, realize that McConnell, if he really wanted to get to a majority vote on Obamacare, could be threatening Murkowski with the loss of her chairmanship of the Senate Energy Committee or Collins with the loss of her coveted chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee.  Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have no qualms about resorting to such measures to ensure their troops march in lockstep when they need votes.  By refusing to do so, McConnell proves that he is simply not serious about the Obamacare issue.
  • To this point, the GOP congress has looked like an old Keystone Cops movie, with members running in all directions, showing no discipline, having no leadership, resolving no issues of import.  If this continues, then Republicans will go into the 2018 midterms once again sporting the status as the most hated subset of the DC ruling class.
  • And this time, they won’t have Donald Trump to bail them out.
  • Having said all of that, I still believe that the Senate Rs will somehow get to 50 votes on a flat repeal of Obamacare with a 2-year window before it recesses in mid-August.  I believe this because they have almost all voted to do this in the past, when a veto was ensured, and it is in their political best interest to repeat that vote now that a repeal would be signed.  If they can’t even do that, then those members who refuse to repeat that repeal vote had better start looking for something to do in their post-senate careers.

Just another day in disastrous Republican congress America.

That is all.

Liberal Heads Explode Over Dinner Chat. Sad!

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • So, the latest fake journalist joint head explosion was caused by the revelation that, during one of the dinners at last week’s G20 meeting, President Trump left his seat and sat down next to Vladimir Putin for a discussion.  The media, keeping with their agreed-to narrative, is uniformly describing this as a “private” discussion “with no other Americans present”, since the President did not have his own interpreter with him, relying instead on Putin’s interpreter to handle both sides of the discussion.  Characterizing the dinner chat in this way is the height of absurdity given that it took place in a room with at least 200 people present, at a dinner table where half a dozen others were constantly within earshot, and dozens of others passed closely by while the national leaders were talking.  CNN even found some ex-Obama swamp creature to call it a “breach of national security protocol.”  Good lord.
  • President Trump responded to this latest news fakery on Twitter:  “Fake News story of secret dinner with Putin is “sick.” All G 20 leaders, and spouses, were invited by the Chancellor of Germany. Press knew!”  And “The Fake News is becoming more and more dishonest! Even a dinner arranged for top 20 leaders in Germany is made to look sinister!”   Yyyyyyyyep.
  • Hey, remember when all the #NeverTrump goofballs told us that it would be Donald Trump who betrayed the country on the promise to repeal and replace ObamaCare?  Yeah…they were wrong about that, too.
  • Well, looks like Hillary Clinton may have finally, at long last, overstayed her welcome with pretty much every American who doesn’t call themselves Democrats.  A new Bloomberg poll shows that her favorability rating is lower than Donald Trump’s, mired at 39% to Trump’s 41%.  That 39% level has historically been pretty much the base level for either Clinton over the last 25 years.  It appears that basically all Democrats would support either of them even if they were discovered standing over some murdered DNC staffer’s body, gun in hand.  For the rest of us, it appears that Ms. Clinton’s endless blame-shifting efforts for her defeat last year have finally become too much to bear.  That sure took a long time.
  • It is not news that climate alarmists keep having to move their “end of the world” goal posts in order to keep scamming the government for grant money to fund their “science,” but one of the most prominent scammers among them has now taken this exercise to an absurd extreme.  Well-known alarmist James Hansen – who for years worked the scam from inside the government rather than outside of it – famously told a congressional committee in 1988 that New York City would be under water “within 30 years.”  In 1998, he announced that we would see a global temperature rise of 5 degrees Centigrade by 2018.  Given that neither New York City sea levels or global temperatures have risen by any measurable degree at all since 1998, Mr. Hansen has now decided that NYC is safe for…wait for it…wait for it….150 more years!  And that global temperature that hasn’t risen at all for the last 20 years?  Uh, well, we’ll probably be ok, but only through the end of this century – THEN it’s going to get really, really hot.  Pushing the goal posts out that far may seem absurd to you and me, but it does have the benefit of ensuring that Mr. Hansen will be long perished from this earth before his latest projections of climate Armageddon are proved false as well.

Just another day in tiresome frauds America.

That is all.

A Border Miracle Based Strictly on Psychology

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • Tired of winning yet?  National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd told C-SPAN Monday that the rapid downturn in illegal border crossings is “nothing short of miraculous.”   He elaborated that total recorded border crossings in 2017 are just 53% of what they were in 2016, and that percentage continues to drop each week.  As we have noted before, this has been achieved without building single foot of wall, without changes to existing statutes, without any new huge budget allocations to the Border Patrol, without the introduction of any new technology.  The one and only reason for this fall is the simple fact that we have a President of the United States who is focused on enforcing the laws already on the books.  Isn’t it amazing how simple psychology changes human behavior.
  • Meanwhile, in the aspiring third world country of California, 8 Senate Republicans broke with party leadership and voted in favor of extending that state’s job-and-business-destroying “Cap and Trade” program through the year 2030.  After the vote was taken, Assembly Republican leader Chad Mayes (R-Yucca Valley) told reporters that “California Republicans are different than national Republicans.”  Yes, they appear to be Democrats.
  • Fresh off of causing progressives’ heads to explode with its fantastic “clenched fist of truth” ad starring Dana Loesch, the National Rifle Association embarked on another snowflake-triggering exercise, this time targeting the fake journalists at the Washington Post.  In the ad, a while male (trigger) spokesman looks directly into the camera (micro-aggression) and tells the WaPo (unfair targeting) that ““Your paper’s new slogan may read Democracy Dies (trigger) in Darkness (micro-aggression). It should say Journalism Dies at the Washington Post.”  The University of Missouri is gonna need more safe spaces.
  • Speaking of entitled snowflakes, the bicycle riders of Portland, Oregon are up in arms after the leftist Democrat-dominated legislature passed a budget package that includes a $15 excise tax on the purchase of high-dollar bikes.  This move comes a year after the legislature raised the state’s gasoline tax by 10 cents/gallon, a move that prompted complaints from car owners tired of having to dodge bike-riding scofflaws in their daily commutes that bicycle-riders weren’t paying their fair share for road maintenance.  Of course, snowflakes protested the move.  BikePortland publisher Jonathan Maus called it “an unprecedented step in the wrong direction.  We are taxing the healthiest, most inexpensive, most environmentally friendly, most efficient and most economically sustainable form of transportation ever devised by the human species.”  Yes, and you are also not exempt from paying taxes.  If you can afford a $2,000 bicycle, you can also afford a $15 tax, especially given that Oregon has no sales tax.  Toughen up.
  • In other news, Senate Republicans appear to be intent upon committing political hari-kari, as the defection of two staunch conservatives, Mike Lee and Jerry Moran, ensured the death of the current legislative vehicle for reforming Obamacare in the Senate.  Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that his strategy will now shift to a straight repeal of Obamacare, with an ensuing effort to pass a bi-partisan reform bill.  Given that almost every Senate Republican already voted in favor of a straight repeal multiple times while Obama was in office, one might think they would easily do so again.  But one would be wrong in thinking that.  There is no more dangerous and faulty assumption to make than assuming intellectual consistency from DC establishment Republicans.  It’s going to be a long, hot summer.

Just another day in milquetoast Republicans America.

That is all.

The Assisted Living Center Congress

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • A few weeks ago, Politico quoted an unnamed DC-based Democrat consultant who described the Party’s congressional leadership as “an assisted living center.”  Now, having reached the age of enjoying movie theater discounts a few years ago myself, far be it from me to speak ill of the aging.  Well, ok, I actually do it all the time when it comes to congress, so nevermind all that.  Congressional leaders are pretty much like the population of an assisted living center, and it isn’t limited to the Democrats.
  • Here’s what I’ve seen this morning as I scan the Internet and watch TV news to catch up on what’s happening:
    • Arizona Sen. John McCain just had intra-cranial surgery to remove a blood clot above his eye, and is now home recuperating.  McCain’s surgery is being cited by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as a reason why he has now decided to delay a vote on the Senate GOP version of medical insurance reform by at least a week.  McCain is 80 years old, McConnell is 75.
    • Caitlyn Jenner is reportedly mulling over a decision whether or not to challenge California Sen. Dianne Feinstein when she runs for re-election next year.  Jenner is well-known to be a Republican, and has long expressed interest in political matters.  Sen. Feinstein has served in the Senate since 1992, and is 84 years old.  Jenner is a comparative spring chicken at age 67.
    • Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-TX, has somehow figured out that ObamaCare is a partisan issue (something most Americans figured out in 2009), telling “Meet The Press” on Sunday that “Unfortunately, this has become a partisan issue, and our Democratic friends are refusing to lift a finger to help the very constituents who are being hurt.”  Yes, folks, Sen. Cornyn still labors under the illusion that Senate Democrats who have been at absolute, overt war with the GOP and the American people for half a century are his “friends.”  Sen. Cornyn has only this year qualified for Medicare – age 65 – but will never have to suffer under its restrictions and bureaucratic roadblocks since members of congress have long exempted themselves from such inconveniences.
    • Nominal Republican Senator Susan Collins outright adopted Democrat talking points in a Sunday appearance on CNN, telling the fake host there that “This bill would impose fundamental, sweeping changes in the Medicaid program.  Those (changes) include very deep cuts that would affect some of the most vulnerable people in our society, including disabled children, poor seniors. It would affect our rural hospitals and our nursing homes.”  As a reward for her service, Sen. Collins – age 64 – was called up to the stage at a concert featuring Cyndi Lauper, who hailed Collins as “my hero.”  *sigh*
  • This parade of the addled, the lame and the simply ineffective and dim could go on and on, but here’s the point:  Congress is in the process of deciding what the nation’s health insurance system – and therefore, the nation’s health delivery system – will look like for coming generations.  This is unfortunately a federal intervention into 1/6th of the U.S. economy that the leaders of both political parties agree needs to happen.  The Democrats accomplished the initial takeover in 2010 without a single Republican vote, and the Republicans appear to be limping towards making some sort of “reform” to the government-mandated system without receiving a single Democrat vote.
  • There are many huge problems with this process, but it seems to me that the single biggest part of it is that every person in leadership of both parties who making these decisions for future generations is old enough to be retired – and most should have long ago been forcibly retired by the voters – and all are exempt for life from suffering the inevitable bad consequences of these decisions.
  • That Democrat consultant’s comment about an “assisted living center” was funny because it was perceived as being largely true.  But the truth, of course, is that none of these senior citizens in congressional leadership will ever have to spend a day in such a facility.  They will all retire wealthy (many of them mysteriously so) and live their final days in gated communities or estates surrounded by high walls and security guards to protect them from the rabble who must endure the effects of their decisions.
  • This is the worst possible way to make such policy, and the worst possible class of individuals to lead such an effort.  But here we are.

Just another day in assisted living center America.

That is all.

The Oil And Gas Situation – Confusion Reigns In The Energy Media

If you read the Dallas Morning News for information about the oil and gas industry, you’d be best advised to do more than just scan the headlines.  Here are two examples of headlines that just don’t really match the content of the articles:

Trump Won’t Declare Dallas Firm’s Dakota Access Pipeline A Major Disaster – Well, no, that’s not at all an accurate description.  The state of North Dakota’s governor – Doug Burgum – did not ask President Trump to declare the Dakota Access Pipeline to be a “major disaster”.

Governor Burgum did ask the President to declare the site of the months-long protest/riot action against the Dakota Access Pipeline to be a “major disaster” in an effort to seek federal help in footing the $38 million bill for policing the often-violent protesters and cleaning up the epic mess they left behind when they finally cleared their illegal site.  Given that it was the federal government, under Barack Obama, that allowed these rioters to illegally occupy the site for half a year, it would seem that the Governor had a valid complaint.  President Trump disagreed, which is his right.  Either way, it would have been nice for the headline writer to accurately portray the content of the article.

The Trump Energy Policy Revolution Creates Its Own Set Of Challenges

There is no question that President Donald Trump and his Administration are bringing about a real sea change in federal energy policy , one that can legitimately be referred to as a revolution.  Though the national news media, with its myopic focus on presidential tweets and scandal-mongering, has largely missed it, there is no denying that our energy policy world has had a radical shift since last November 8.

For the oil and gas industry, this shift has been mostly positive:  the rollback of a series of ill-advised, poorly-constructed, often unnecessary regulations, the opening up of new tracts of federal lands and waters to leasing, the speeding up of permitting processes and lease sales are all policies designed to stimulate the production of U.S. oil and gas resources, in keeping with the Administration’s “America First Energy Plan”, and the President’s goal of U.S. “Energy Dominance.”  After eight years of little but bad news coming out of Washington, DC, the industry has been very grateful for these and other efforts by the Administration to encourage increased domestic production, the industry’s new-found optimism reflected in the rising rig counts and drilling permit applications of the first 6 months of 2017.

But all of this change, even when positive, does bring a downside for an industry that places a high priority on its ability to plan its business :  Uncertainty.  Anytime you have rapid and radical change, whether positive or negative, confusion and uncertainty are going to result.  There is no question that the industry experienced a great deal of rapid, radical change of the negative sort over the last eight years, but when companies knew what was coming, they could at least plan for compliance and work the costs into their projected economics for planned capital spending.

America’s Left Is Extremely Religious, Emphasis On “Extreme”

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • Some Seattle-based social justice warrior named Frances S. Lee woke up over the weekend and realized his political ideology is no different than your basic religious cult, complete with sacred texts, religious dogma, church elders and strictures on speech and behavior that must not be violated.  Mr. Lee is asking to be excommunicated from this amazingly destructive, anti-American church.  Good for him.  The trouble is, for every awakened SJW like Mr. Lee, there are a hundred mind-numbed nitwits waiting to take his place.
  • By the way, as you read Mr. Lee’s piece, try substituting the words “Climate Change” every time you read “Social Justice”, and you will see that his piece could have otherwise been written word-for-word about the global Church of Climate Alarm.
  • Speaking of cults, John Sexton had an excellent piece at Hotair.com on Saturday, reminding us that the fake news media also functions in the very same way.  His piece, a remembrance of the 2008 “Journolist” scandal, in which dozens of leftwing activists posing as journalists were revealed to be coordinating daily talking points, narratives, strategies and targets for demonization, all in support of their fake God, Barack Obama, needs to be read by all, because though the “Journolist” daily email chains might have disappeared, all these leftist seditionists are still dominating the fake news media and the cultish behavior still dominates the fake news coverage.
  • All The Fake News That Fits, Part 86,452:  As if on cue, the NYTimes provides a wonderful example of how this religious cult operates, as it ran a story titled “Iran Dominates In Iraq After U.S. Hands The Country Over”.  Obviously the piece masquerades as an expose’ of the 15 year failed U.S. policy vis a vis Iraq following 911.  Amazingly, the writers of this piece managed somehow to roll out its 1,000-plus words without mentioning the name “Barack Obama” – who inherited a fairly stable situation and intentionally destroyed it in keeping with his leftist ideology – one single time.  If you want to know why I consistently point to the NYTimes as one of the fakest of all fake news outlets, this story is a prime example.
  • And A New False God Rises In The West To Fill The Obama Void:  Again, as if on cue, the NYPost reports that the Democrat Party, desperate to find someone who doesn’t require assisted living services to become their great new presidential hope, have now turned to  – guess who? – yet another freshman senator from a heavily blue state.  With Corey Booker having gone down in flames as simply unappealing to the masses, the Coastal Democrats now turn their eyes to a new annointee, Senator Kamala Harris of California.  In the estimation of Party leaders and their fake news media propaganda agents, Sen. Harris has literally got it all:  outspoken, good-looking, young-ish, a minority background, a woman, an excellent public speaker, and a person who can lie on cue without missing a beat.
  • It will piss off the Fake Indian From Massachusets and The Most Corrupt Woman In America to no end, but Senator Harris is obviously the new Chosen One for the Coastal Democrats.  In the coming months, expect to an undending series of newspaper and magazine articles praising Sen. Harris for her smarts, her toughness, her political skills, and yes, even laughingly for her “moderate”, “inclusive” political outlook, as the fake news media begins to condition the public at large to believe she is just the person to “bring the country together”, just as they began doing with Barack Obama starting in 2007.  This is what the Democrats and the fake news media do.

Just another weekend in leftwing religious cult America.

That is all.

Climate Change Alarm Intensifies – Today’s Required Viewing

If you believe reports from climate alarmists that a) arctic sea ice is disappearing, b) Greenland’s ice sheet is melting, c) sea levels are rising at an alarming pace, or d) arctic temperatures are abnormally high, then you really need to watch the video linked below. The actual official data – which this video cites in each case – shows every one of those alarmist claims is an outright lie.

What is really going on is that climate scientists, seeing their sources of federal funding in the Trump Administration beginning to dry up, are making increasingly ridiculous claims in a campaign to frighten the public to demand more funding for their “scientific” work.

Seriously, take five minutes to watch this video. Then just cut and paste the link to all your leftist friends. Then watch as hilarity – and hysteria – ensues.

Obama’s Policy Legacy Is Dying, But His Cultural Legacy Lives On

Today’s Campaign Update

(Because The Campaign Never Ends)

  • The Obama policy legacy continues to be systematically repealed by President Trump and congress, but sadly, the Obama cultural legacy will live on for many years thanks to the hundreds of utterly corrupt individuals he appointed to the federal judiciary.  Last night we saw the latest example of what will become a long-term lawless, corrupting influence in our daily lives, as Hawaii District Court Judge Derrick Watson issued his latest extra-constitutional ruling related to the President’s travel ban.  No doubt many of you have been laboring under the illusion that the U.S. Supreme Court – which has already ruled on the ban – is the final arbiter of judicial actions in our country.  Silly you.
  • The Supreme Court, if you remember, decided that the President’s ban is clearly constitutional, but that it should not apply to those who have close relatives in the U.S.  The Trump Administration interpreted that exception to include brothers, sisters, children and parents of U.S. citizens.  Mr. Watson – he clearly doesn’t deserve to be referred to as “Judge” – has taken it upon himself to decide for the entire nation that the Administration’s interpretation is just too darn narrow, and has ordered that the exception be expanded to “grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles and”…wait for it…wait for it…COUSINS!
  • Now, think about that last one for a minute.  Mr. Watson (Sherlock Holmes would no doubt be ashamed) does not put any limitation on what that particular designation means.  Is it just first cousins?  Second cousins?  Should we include 3rd and 4th cousins twice removed?  What about step cousins – do they have a pressing need to just willy-nilly be allowed into our country for some unexplained reason?
  • And how are our already-overwhelmed immigration officials supposed to verify such claims to cousin-ship?  Are they supposed to get online, go out to Ancestry.com, pay to establish accounts for such immigrants, and trace their ancestry back to some great-great-great-grand uncle they have in common with a U.S. resident?  See the problem?
  • So, the inevitable result of Mr. Watson’s order here will be what Barack Hussein Obama always sought to create for our society in every decision he made:  Chaos.  This is what leftist radical community organizers do, it’s what Barack Obama has spent his entire adult life doing, and it is what his hundreds of judicial appointees will continue to try to do to our society long after Mr. Obama has left office.
  • If any of this surprises you, you just haven’t been paying attention.
  • In other news, a truck carrying a load of slimy eels overturned on an Oregon highway on Thursday, and all I could think of was that this is just like when Congress comes back into session from one of its 752 annual recesses.
  • Speaking of congress, Senate Republicans revealed their  latest version of Obamacare reform legislation, and guess what?  The only “free market” piece of its 200+ pages is the 2 sentence amendment proposed by Texas Senator Ted Cruz.  Otherwise, the bill looks an awful lot like…well, it looks an awful lot like Obamacare, retaining as it does most of Obamacare’s taxes and subsidies, although it would at least eliminate the clearly unconstitutional (I don’t give a damn what Justice Roberts says) personal mandate.
  • So it’s not the promised “repeal and replace”, but rather a modest reform of the current system.   But, as modest as it is, it would reduce the mushrooming federal budget deficit, provide consumers will vastly more options in their health insurance choices, and reduce paperwork burdens on caregivers.  The wretched Susan Collins and libertarian Rand Paul have already announced they won’t vote for the bill, but the rest of Senate Rs, if they give a damn about the country, had better line up behind it and get it passed.  If they don’t, there will be hell to pay at the voting booth next November.

Just another day in Slimy Eel America.

That is all.
